Shanahan's decision on the length of suspension was based on: Let's say Thornton didn't receive the earlier minor penalty; does that suggest that Thornton's suspension would have been less than the one he received?

If this was an afternoon tilt, it would have been a great game for the national NBC network, except for two things: 1) Today's schedule is filled with Dew Tour and PGA Tour programming 2) NBC still thinks the NHL schedule starts on New Year's Day. -

I've read that Shanahan is examining this case very closely, as he wants to send a "message" regarding this type of shenanigans. But c'mon!!! Does the League allow "lobbying" by owners, who want to act as lawyers representing their "client", who make a phone call to plead their client down to a lesser charge? If it happens, the rest of the free world doesn't hear about it. -

Sadly, this is the kind of incident that has to be cleaned up after the fact. It's a shame that Shanahan is the man on the job. Once again, he has a chance to send a message to one and all...loud and clear. Let's see what happens. -
