On "Hockey Day in Canada" on the CBC, three games are played on that day, involving all six Canadian teams. So... Have two days every season, so there is both a home and road game against the same team that season. In fact, because of the geographical proximity of the cities, make it on the weekend. Detroit and Montreal used to play the on Saturday night in Montreal and back in Detroit on Sunday night.
