Thanks for the memories! Of all the "undercards", the one I had forgotten about was the Forsberg-Larionov bout. The Shanahan clothesline, with the camera angle from the end of the rink, is still beautiful to watch. The fact that Roy couldn't knock down Vernon and couldn't knock Osgood in their fight the following year, even with a size advantage over both. In "The Payback" game, the Denver "Post" had a lot of quotes from Mike Keane, then with Colorado. The paper must have thought that this was the right way to put the proper "spin" on the game. He called Detroit "gutless" for waiting until a "meaningless game at home" to show how tough they were and "we'll see how tough they are in the playoffs". Memories were kept of this article by both the players and the fans. And the memories of that game and that season are still sweet!

From nhl dot com, at the bottom of the standings: Division leaders are seeded 1, 2, and 3 in Conference standings. If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order: 1-The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage). 2-The greater number of games won. 3-The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs. If two clubs are tied, and have not played an equal number of home games against each other, points earned in the first game played in the city that had the extra game shall not be included. If more than two clubs are tied, the higher percentage of available points earned in games among those clubs, and not including any "odd" games, shall be used to determine the standing. 4-The greater differential between goals for and against for the entire regular season. As of today, San Jose has 2 more OT's, which help their "points percentage": San Jose's is 0.733, Detroit's is 0.723.

Gerber gets tossed; CuJo turns back the clock
cusimano_brothers replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
Taken from: Brooks Laich. "It was under his far pad," said Laich. "At that point, I was just trying to crash the net, try anything. I was desperate. I was able to get it across the line." Always good to see that the referees are always looking out the for the well-being of the goalies in the League. Toronto play-by-play man Joe Bowen made sure the radio listening audience knew that the name of the referee who allowed the play to stand was Mike Leggo and hoped the League didn't give him any playoff assignments. Also: Three games. -

Blackhawks' Ben Eager gets 3 game suspension
cusimano_brothers replied to commadore183's topic in General
Repeat offender? From the above: "Eager is considered a repeat offender, having also gotten a three-game suspension in October, for swinging his stick from the bench at then-Dallas Stars forward Sean Avery in a preseason game." I thought that "repeat offenders" saw their suspensions increase with each new suspension. The League talks about doing one thing, then does something else. Brutal. -
That is funny. I wonder how they would work the back-up game? Eastern Conference slop!

My first trip into Madison Square Garden tonight
cusimano_brothers replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
The last couple of NBC Sunday games from MSG, it looked like the worst lighting was at the ends of the rink, the width of the surface. But, it is an old building. When in NYC: 1) Wallet in the front pocket, 2) Try to ignore the smells 3) Limit eye contact. -
This at least the second game they've lost when wearing their centennial jerseys; and both of them have been high profile.

From nhl dot com: James Norris Memorial Trophy The James Norris Memorial Trophy is an annual award given to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position. The winner is selected in a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of the regular season. The James Norris Memorial Trophy was presented in 1953 by the four children of the late James Norris in memory of the former owner-president of the Detroit Red Wings. If Green wins the Norris this season, the League is going to have to change their definiton of who qualifies. And, before someone suggets it: Mike Green is no Bobby Orr.
