    Habs fire Carbonneau

Well, that was Super Bowl Sunday and that was the game that Kovalev was benched in the third period, even after two players were hurt...

Montreal's been putting together quite a Centennial year highlight (?) video. You couldn't have written a script as bizarre as this season, thus far.

    Wings - Sharks Race

Handy, yes; necessary, not always. Don't forget about 1997. Sometimes, you just have to be in it to win it.

    Colleen Howe passes away

The final labels I can put on Mrs. Howe are “teacher” and “fighter”. She taught me what Pick’s Disease is (which I had never heard of before her diagnosis); it is a rare neurodegenerative disease that puts in a fight that you cannot possibly win. But, in the true Howe fashion, she and her family “kept their elbows up” and fought it as best they could. When friends, family or loved ones go through something as tragic as this, it is always the ones who surround you and are near you than can offer the most comfort. Although I have never met any of the Howe family, I do consider myself to be part of the Detroit hockey family; albeit, only as a fan. So, to the Howe family, I thank you for the lessons learned in this latest chapter of your historic family.

    Caps/Pens

They carried the game on the NBC affiliate in Buffalo. Unless it is a game of major national interest (i.e., the DRW), NBC tends to show a game matched to the same Conference as the city; at least that's what I noticed in past seasons. Since the station is in Buffalo, they tend to show more Eastern Conference slop than real NHL hockey. I laughed at the commercial they ran to pump up next Sunday's game (New York @ Philadelphia); they only mentioned Avery for the Rangers.

Phoenix Coyotes -- Worst organization in sports

Whats with all the back to back games?

One way to look at it: The DRW have played 12 pairs of games on consecutive days so far this season (16 pairs and 32 games for the season); 24 games, worth 48 points. They have picked up 32 points, broken down into: 4 Points: 5 times 3 points: 0 times 2 points: 5 times 1 point: 2 times. Thus far, they have not come out of any pairs of these games without at least 1 point. The total makes for a point percentage in these games of 0.667; 2 out of every 3 points available. That glass is still more than half full. An oddity of these games is that in each case this season, the second game of the pair is on the road.

Since Montreal recently signed Andrew Conboy...

Thanks for the video link. What was he thinking? Just another piece of the puzzle.

Since Montreal recently signed Andrew Conboy...

I have never liked Downie; he has never shown that he has a clue of what is involved in being a hockey player or a human being. With the help of "Wikipedia", let me remind everyone of part of Downie's "illustrious" junior career: "Downie blindly cross-checked and then fought teammate Akim Aliu during practice on September 28, knocking out three of Aliu's teeth. The incident stemmed from 16-year-old Aliu's refusal to take part in a hazing incident, which involved rookies being forced to stand naked in a cramped bus bathroom. The team suspended Downie for five games and Aliu for one, and Downie was told to undergo professional counselling. Head coach Moe Mantha was suspended by the OHL and later fired by the team, and the team was fined $35,000 by the OHL. Downie left the team and requested a trade, and was eventually traded from the Windsor Spitfires, going to the Peterborough Petes in exchange for Peter Aston." I remember when he was on the U20 Team Canada that won the WJC in 2007. I was certain he was going to do something stupid and embarass hockey, the tournament and the country, but he didn't. For that, the country let out a huge sigh of relief at the end of the tournament. There is no place for someone like this at any level of hockey, period.

    Gary Roberts Retires

From the TSN link: "Roberts' contract worked against him being picked up on waivers. His cap hit was more than $2 million and he has a bonus package that pays him $10,000 for each game he plays." Maybe that was the best offer he got after leaving Pittsburgh; did he sign for the love of the game or for the love of money? Quite a "Hockey Organization" they've got running things in Tampa Bay. The "Bolts"; who designed that "third jersey"?

Correct. One too many "since"; like the "seven deadly since".

    The Central Division

The Central Division has always been tough; so tough that when Toronto was in it, they finally went to the League and begged them to be moved to the Eastern Conference.

WTF Capitals' celebrations vs. Canes tonight

Final score: Carolina 5 Washington 2. So sorry about the two points and all; but, by all means, have your "complimentary celebration" instead. I guess that "goose pile" gave the Washington faithful something to talk about, instead of talking about their team losing. Put a tent over that circus!

NHL should do something about this.

That's why they built the "People Mover", isn't it?
