I don't think Nick Foligno does it anymore; just that one time in honour of his father. Celebrations for goals only started in the early-1940's; it took a memo sent to all six clubs in the League by then-President Frank Calder. He saw it as a way to liven up goals scored, especially during the War. At Calder's suggestion, goals scorers would signal their goal by simply raising their arms (and stick) above their heads. The first player given credit for doing this was Billy Reay with Montreal.

Looks like he's made a career move; helped out by the suspension, no doubt. All the tools.

Chris Zelkovich, in today's Toronto Star, brings up the recurring topic in his Monday column: Hey, isn't it Cherry-canning season yet?

This may be why Dallas waived Avery; they didn't want two Otts. But, any team with two General Managers...

I've seen the display they have for Sledge Hockey at the HHOF in Toronto. The ends of their sticks have "gougers" (for want of a better word), which allows them to dig in and move. I watched it twice to see if there was any evidence of a spearing offense and I couldn't see any. You know, "two minutes for goring".

The DRW have played 23 pairs of games on consecutive days; the last was April 21 & 22, 2007, Conference Quarterfinal vs. Calgary.

This was the third 0-8 in franchise history. Three games have been worse: 0-9: October 25, 1952, road vs. Montreal 0-10: January 15, 1981, road vs. Calgary 0-13: January 2, 1971, road vs. Toronto. But don't worry; everything will be fine.

I don't why the League insists on hiring visually impaired on-ice officials.

A Buffalo Springfield: Bill Guerin.

When Tortorella was on "The Panel" on TSN, he said: "Can you imagine being his teammate?" He's probably had nightmares of that since being signed on by the Rangers. But, if Tortorella's smart, he won't take any calls from Ron Duguay.

Dandenault askes to be traded out of Montreal
cusimano_brothers replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
That's what I liked about him while he was with Detroit. In the 1998 playoffs, he skated with the "Black Aces" and I remember seeing a feature showing what it was like to be ready, just in case you were needed as a replacement. He jokingly said he was hoping that someone would get hurt, because he was supposed to be the first one added to the playing roster. He didn't play in '97, but he got in 3 games in '98 and played in all 23 games in 2002. Three rings in nine seasons; not too bad. -
Which team do you NOT want to face in the first round?

Pronger, so far: 62 games played, 72 PIM. This would lead the DRW in that category. Wouldn't you rather be on the PP than the PK? I would take a pass; too much past history and baggage, all in one.

From the "Notes" at the end of the Islanders- Pittsburgh game yesterday at nhl dot com: "Notes: The Penguins also were without D Ryan Whitney, who left the team for personal reasons but is expected back Friday." Yes, with another team.

40 For the 21st time in franchise history, the Club has reached the 40 win mark in a season, this time in their 61st game. It is the 12th time playing an 82-game schedule and the 11th consecutive season played, (4th consecutive since the lockout season), they have reached this mark.

Harry Howell and Andy Bathgate number retirements just starting

...where the Detroit Red Wings' owner also owned the Rangers' building and scheduled the circus into Madison Square Garden each year at the exact time the Stanley Cup Playoffs were being held. This situation has happend twice in franchise history: 1) 1936-37: a best-of-five series, the first game was played in New York, the last 4 games were played in Detroit and 2) 1949-50: a best-of-seven series, game one at home, game two and three played at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens and the last four games played in Detroit. Game seven of this series saw Detroit's Pete Babando score on Charlie Rayner in the second overtime, the first time the Stanley Cup was decided in a game seven in overtime in League history and the Club's fourth Cup win. -

Every once in a while, the London Knights will put game worn jerseys up for auction on their website. This past weekend, they had a game worn Tavares jersey and the last bid I saw was $10,000.

Getting sick of "Ovie's" goal celebration's
cusimano_brothers replied to Wingaling's topic in General
Wasn't there a recent highlight of a Crosby goal where he tried to do a "Lambeau Leap" into the side glass? And it was, by industry standards, a sad effort. -
With no Miller, it might be another season of: "Oooooh, ahhhhh, Sabres on the golf course."
-
Please define "tougher". We are talking about the league where a coach's son skates the length of the ice to pound on another goalie who has no interest in fighting, right?
-
Crosby: "I don't like it personally". This isn't Rimouski in the "Q" anymore, son. Soon, somebody is going to show you that trying to be a star and an "enforcer" is not a good a good combination. And, we've already seen your "fighting" abilities. Yesterday's loss puts you 1 game closer to not making the playoffs, a reality that seems to be setting in.
