Sorry I missed this. Yes, I heard it during the U20 WJC on TSN. Yzerman and Holland were in Ottawa to talk to him. Also: Update.

The obvious "Vegas material" answer would be to say that the dog was the "Rover", but Wikipedia says: "In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, ice hockey consisted of seven positions. Along with the goaltender, two defencemen and three forwards who remain today, a Rover was also part of the team. Unlike all the others, the rover did not have a set position, and roamed the ice at will, going where needed. As the skill level of players increased, the need to have a rover was decreased. When it was formed in 1910, the National Hockey Association decided to exclude the rover." Possibly the team mascot, or the dog was owned by one of the players. I can't find it online, but there was a famous Boston team photo, from the days when Don Cherry coached them, with the original "Blue" sitting on the ice in front of Cherry.

Yep; right around the time that: The Sporting News used to be a respectable publication. My ribs are still hurting from laughing!

The Oilers might be gearing up for what seems to be their annual "Collapse for the Cup".

If the Union and the League want to start somewhere to immediately minimize serious injuries, they should take a real, hard look at no-touch icing being introduced as the rule.

After seeing him play, I imagined Franzen would be a good fit for Holmstrom's role with the Club; in front of the net, making life miserable for the opposing goalie. But, every winning team has to find a player like Cleary, if they expect to compete with the "elite".

I voted for the Maple Leafs. There few things funnier than driving around in May and seeing cars with these: Last season, I saw a car with four; one for each door window.

One of the reasons.

Yesterday's game was the DRW's 6th shutout win, with no losses or ties. The franchise record for shutout wins, with no losses or ties is 9, set in both 1995-96 and 2005-06.

Pittsburgh fans should be bitter. They wish they had a hockey organization like the DRW. And now the media is suggesting that they should keep Crosby and trade Malkin? The first move they should make is to get rid of their "coach".
-
Patience, people; let's all try to show a little patience!

He played an outstanding game yesterday.

According to the "Full Play-by-play" sheet of the game summaries at nhl dot com: "Line 253 3 EV 16:05 - 3:55 SHOT - PIT ONGOAL - #87 Crosby, Wrap-around. Off. Zone, 7 ft." If anybody has the video of the game available, you can use this to check it out. At any rate, the NHL, Reebok and Crosby (sorry, I forgot Tim Hortons) should be very proud of him. He really earned his salary yesterday.

As of Sunday, February 8, 2009, the Pittsburgh Penguins are: A) One step further away from a playoff spot and B) One step closer to firing Michel Therrien.

As Harry Neale says: "If you put it on the net, good things can happen". Also: Steve Mason.
