From the article: "Features on the officials’ uniforms include stretch mesh in the underarm and back of the jerseys, a zipper-less neckline, numbers on the back and sleeve and an enhanced Referee arm bar design to allow for greater on-ice visibility. The uniform also features a microphone channel that allows the officials to maneuver seamlessly across the ice with their microphones securely fastened to them". Whoever wrote this must have worked for LL Bean, writing descriptions for their catalogues.

Datsyuk > Fedorov. There were a lot of games where Sergei operated in a land run by FST: Fedorov Standard Time; he was just going through the motions. The comment about Datsyuk not hitting his prime yet is also true. Plus, I don't remember any announcer using the word "Fedorovian".

The report I saw on TSN said that it's a way of dealing with increasing the number of goals scored without making the net larger. This might just be one of the best ideas the League has experimented with in a long time. This might also mean it is doomed.

Niedermayer, Selanne, Forsberg, Sundin, Forsberg again, etc. This list just keeps on growing. The days of the "mercenary" player in professional hockey has long gone, but players like these insist on playing the "hired gun" role. They do know that the season starts in October, don't they? But, I guess it's added revenue in program sales.

I'm in total aggreement with this. This is an organizational problem; there's lots of minor problems that have to addressed and , luckily, there is the ASG break to address these problems. There is no sense in throwing one (or more) player or one (or more) group of players "under the bus". They are still a lot better off than a lot of other Clubs. In the end, everything will be allright.
-
This will be only the second time the Club will be going into the ASG Break with less than 10 regulation losses (the first: 1995-96).

Two (among many) things still stick with me about "the cross-check": 1) Steve Yzerman came from minor back surgery before the end of the season in 1995-96. After the Club was eliminated, he got the players together and told them if they really want to win the Cup, they were going to have to be in the best physical shape of their lives for both the regular season and the playoffs. He told them that then Athletic Therapist John Wharton had worked out a plan for rehabilitation of his injury and that Wharton had worked out a plan for the entire Club to follow before the start of the next season. They followed the plan and in the 1996-97 season, the Club had an unheard of total of Man Games Lost of 104 and 2) In "The Payback" game, the Denver "Post" had a lot of quotes from Mike Keane, then with Colorado. The paper must have thought that this was the right way to put the proper "spin" on the game. He called Detroit "gutless" for waiting until a "meaningless game at home" to show how tough they were and "we'll see how tough they are in the playoffs". Memories were kept of this article by both the players and the fans and Colorado lost the Conference Final in 1996-97 in six games.

A while back, Inspector Gadget said the League was going to sink a lot of money into the instant replay equipment. Maybe most of it went into the "War Room" in Toronto, because there are lots of replays on goals that are only one angle and you're left asking yourself "Thats it?"
-
The League has stated time and time again that the rule is being enforced and called properly by all Referees, during the regular season and throughout the playoffs. That's not the case.

I hope San Jose's able to have a "bobblehead" night before he retires...again.

Does regular season really matter to the wings?
cusimano_brothers replied to DatsyukianDeak's topic in General
Yes, it does. You just can't "mail it in", you have to play the games. But it's also a matter of timing; with the Club meshing entirely as a unit leading up to and extending into the playoffs. They've been there before with enough veterans who have seen how both sides of the playoff run can go. -
Would his initials happen to be "A D"?

How much trouble are the Coyotes in?

I think Phoenix is as close to be on "life support" as possible. As always, Inspector Gadget is at the monitor. He is also working on the League's plan of damage control. I can't wait for Ron MacLean's interview with him during the ASG weekend. -
This was like watching two seagulls fight over a dead fish on the beach. In honour of Professor Milbury, we should all try to use the word "pansify" as often as possible. Perfect!

Whoever made the final decision to start Osgood vs. San Jose (I'm assuming there was consultation amongst all concerned, in the same way everthing is done with the Club) may have been playing a hunch and it proved to be wrong, this time. Maybe it's the 6-game roadtrip (5 before the ASG). The Club is still 2W-1L-1OTL on the trip, so far, and they've only ever won all 6 games on a sixer once (2002). And they only lost by 1 stinkin' goal. This is a test of endurance: 45 games played, 37 games to be played. It will all work out.

Report: World Cup of Hockey to be held in 2011
cusimano_brothers replied to MacK_Attack's topic in General
In a pre-game interview with Ron MacLean prior to the HNIC broadcast of the Montreal - Ottawa game, Paul Kelly threw out a figure that 30% of the players in the League are non-North Americans and that the NHLPA see this event as the best place to show their talents. -
The band on deck keeps playing as this ship keeps sinking. I can't wait for the glorious day I read the headline "Therrien Fired".

This is a tremendous topic. Mr. Lindsay was one of the main figures behind the attempt at a first "union" by the players and because of this is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the NHL. There was a great documentary done by the CBC called "Net Worth", based on a chapter from the book of the same name, written in 1991. I think the only player who escaped the sentence of being traded was Doug Harvey; Mr. Lindsay was traded to Chicago, at the time run by the other Norris brother, and as close to "hell on earth" as a place to play as was possible. Two things come to mind right off: 1) The drawer of money used by "Jack" Adams for the "re-negotiation" of players contracts and 2) The player whose indedecisiveness is blamed for the failure of the movement reaching its goal. If it will help, I've added a link for a review of the book: http://www.la84foundation.org/SportsLibrar...902/st0902n.pdf

This is a sad, tragic story about a young hockey life lost when it could have been prevented on more than one level. But, in the end, the way this is unravelling doesn't surprise me at all.
