Why is Datsyuk marginalized by the League?
Yzersyukstromberg replied to Antilles328's topic in General
The reason you hear nothing about Pavel is because Gary Bettman is a blowhard, and forces all of the media to talk only about Cindy Crosby and Alex Ovechkin. We all know he's the best player in the league, and that's good enough for me. Who cares if he doesn't win all the flashy individual awards the others do, he'll be more than happy to walk away with the big silver cup at the end of the season... -
Because he knows he's washed up and doesn't want to embarrass himself any further.
-
That's not going to happen. We'll get at least one of them. Why bother trying to figure out a solution for something that won't happen?
-
Wow, how much time did you waste putting that together?? And since when is Pavel Datsyuk's work ethic only an 8?? I'd have to choose Cleary over the Mule, not based on any type of point system, but based on the fact that Dapper Danny is a hard working player, who, despite what might seem like a lack of skill, still puts up solid numbers year in and year out. I love the Mule, but he does seem a bit fragile, and occasionally a bit (for lack of a better term) lazy. I'd be glad to have both of them on the Wings any day, but when it comes down to it, Dapper Dan is a better value for the buck.

Although I still believe that Nick will be probably be a frontrunner for the Norris at the end of the season, there are a few factors that might weigh against him this year. 1- Our defense as a whole is no longer one of the best in the league. 2- Our penalty kill is horrible...and Nick is part of the penalty kill. 3- His point totals are significantly lower than his normal output. Even though he's still the best defenseman in the league, by far...the people who vote to determine these awards are 'slappies' who will be easily sucked in by a Green or a Chara type, who each are having seasons that are far beyond each of their prior personal bests. That seems to be the trend in award voting.
-
You can take this to the bank right now...Jay Bouwmeester has no chance of winning the Norris Trophy this season. There are too many others who will beat him simply because they play for a better team (even though he might be a worthy top-5 candidate for the award).

Deep thought. Unfortunately, it does matter.

I too would love it if Pavel got to be the next captain, but I think the only thing holding him back in that regard is the fact that he's not strong with the English language...sadly enough. That shouldn't have any bearing on it, but I think it would.
-
The Wings will make Zetterberg their next captain. No way in hell the C ends up on Hossa's chest (if he chooses to stay long-term). I can't see them shunning Hank when the time comes...that just doesn't make sense. Why would you pass on home grown talent being your next captain in favour of a guy who might be in his 3rd year with the team. That's not the way the Red Wings operate. However, for various other reasons, I'd be thrilled if Hossa stayed on long-term, at the right price.

I think that's a brutal idea. That's why Kenny Holland is the GM and you are not. Cole is washed up, Roloson has never won anything (and is way overpaid), and there's no point in giving away Osgood and his value salary...have a little faith in the guy...even if he's not the starter for us, he's a proven playoff performer and will be good insurance for us if Conks isn't coming through (provided he is the playoff starter).

Wings win this one, by a score of 5-3. Zetterberg nets 2, Hossa 1, Datsyuk 1 and Filppula finally scores again. Ozzy gets the start and lets in his trade mark 3 goals but, once again, the Wings find a way to win.
-
Thanks to the NBC 'flex' game, the Wings get to travel to Pittsburgh to start their road game against the Penguins only 18 1/2 hours after they completed their dismantling of the Oilers. Hopefully this won't hurt us at all, as the Pens were lucky enough to have today off. Looking forward to a nice, early game tomorrow though...

Wings Would Like To Re-sign Kopecky
Yzersyukstromberg replied to Heroes of Hockeytown's topic in General
Come on...he provides nothing. The most you see out of Kopecky in a game is a penalty and several giveaways. The guy's useless and getting rid of him would open up a roster spot for a much more deserving guy like Darren Helm, or someone else from the Griffins. -
LOL! hilarious! but true...lol

I guess if those are the stats, we should be trying to take every game to a shootout then?? I think I'd prefer we got back to allowing more like 2 goals a game, while keeping the scoring up there around 4 per game. Nice to see Ozzie isn't the worst in the league in at least 1 stat this season though....poor Ozzie, can't understand what's gone wrong with him this year.
-
Can't believe they're charging for the autographs... They'd be smarter to have him in-house signing things purchased within the store only. That would sound like a bit less of a rip off. I'll wait until the season ticket holder open house in a few weeks.
-
Wings will win this evening 6-3. Ozzie gives up his trademark 3-goal minimum, but the Wings hang on and win, thanks to goals by: Zetterberg 2 Datsyuk 1 Helm 1 Lidstrom 1 Samuelsson 1 Datsyuk will also chip in with 2 assists, just to help get himself back in to the top 5 scorers in the NHL.

Trust me, I understand what he means to that team...just because I'm a Wings fan, doesn't mean I only follow the Red Wings. I'd consider myself a pretty well rounded hockey fan. All I was getting at is that Glen Wesley is a bit of a reach when it comes to retiring a number. Like you said, it would basically be the equivalent of Chris Chelios getting his number retired, but in Detroit, not in Chi-town or Montreal. Either way, I respect your opinion, and unfortunately, I don't see anything silly about my evaluation of Glen Wesley. He is what he is, and that was an above average NHL defenseman. I just wish teams would raise the bar a bit when it comes to hanging jerseys up in the rafters, that's all. Like another guy in this thread said...who's next Aaron Ward?
-
Agreed...like I said, for some teams it's a bit of a 'reach', but it is fun for the fans, and generates revenue. I enjoy it, and while I'm glad the Wings keep the jersey retirements to very elite company, I think there are a few who probably deserve the honor, but might not get it at the end of their careers. (ie; Ozzie, Sergei)
-
Buddy...Chris Chelios is one of the better defensemen ever to play the game of hockey. Take a look at his stats...we're not talking about a Glen Wesley calibre player. And he's still playing a few weeks after his 81st birthday (slight exaggeration). Chelios could easily have his number retired in Chicago, where he spent some of his best years, or in Montreal, where they just love retiring numbers...and those are two pretty long standing franchises. How did Glen Wesley teach them how to win? He had never won anything before in his life. Don't try to overblow what he was...like the other guy said...hard working, good team guy. He didn't teach the Canes how to win. Just my opinion though, and I most definitely respect yours even if I don't agree.

LOL, true...true...

My brother bought the student seat a few games back. They're usually individual seats, but have a $48 face value. Middle of the upper bowl in the corners, generally...not a bad view at all, especially for $15.
-
That's awesome! You should have sold off the 2 extras to the scalpers outside and you'd be sitting at the game for free! I usually tell my friends about that deal when I don't have any extras in my season ticket location for them to use. Great deal...the only thing is that it kind of pisses me off, that I paid out the same price for my season tickets, and people can come up to the box office and pay the same price ($22) for a seat that's like 15 or more rows closer to the ice than I am! Oh well, can't blame the Wings I guess...gotta put asses in the seats!
