    This season is over!

This is thread is pure IDIOCY on a Silver F#%*ING Platter. There is still so much of this season to go, granted I'm on the of the people who said I didn't expect much from this year's team but I can't see this team not making the playoffs. It's going to be and up-hill struggle but if any team can do this it's the Wings. I'm quite confident in my team MAKING the Playoffs. The Wings just have to find the right combo to get things started. It's so funny to me to see how many people are Bandwagon fans and how they are all over a team when they are successful but the minute they show any weakness at all they are off to another Wagon to jump on. What a load of BS. Wings will be fine they are just going through a rough patch, they WILL get it turned around. Let's Go Detroit Red Wings!!

    Dominik Hasek thinking NHL Comeback?

Isn't he like 80 now. No chance in hell I'd want him back on this team. He was my favorite Non-Wings Goalie for years while he was in the NHL but he OLD and should stay retired. How many comebacks does he need to make. Let it go Dom you're done. You've got 2 Cups and a million Vezina's stick to you Old Man Beer League Play.

Welcome to Big Leagues Gustav Nyquist!

He had a great Camp and I sure hope the Wings play him a lot tonight and see what he can do. He's a good quality young player with a ton of potential and deserves a fair look. Welcome to Detroit Gustav!!

    Kronwall signed to seven-year deal

Great signing by the Wings!! I'm so glad we are keeping Kronwall, he is a great D-Man and will be a huge foundation player on Defense for the Wings when Liddy goes. Glad to see the Wings kept it under $5 Mill, not that he isn't worth it but it will give us plenty of room for next off-season and getting some quality players from Free Agency. Nice work Kenny and the Wings!!

    Avery

My biggest question that I ponder alot is would he have turned out the way he is now if the Wings would have kept him? I mean I know he didn't really fit with what our team was about at the time but I just wonder how things would have turned out if things were different and he was still on the Wings Roster. My first guess is that yes he wouldn't be like this and that Detroit would keep him a lot more tamed than he has become. Just courious!!

why this season will not be different...

I'm very frustrated with the past 4 Losses especially after going 5-0. That's why I said at the beginning of this season and even before this season began that I didn't have high expectations for this season's team. I'm not saying I'm giving up on them, it's way to early for that. Wings still struggle with a lot of things that they have struggled with the past few seasons. Such as Power Plays, holding leads, and getting production from guys that know how to produce. I hope they can correct these things soon but it may come down to not having a great season this season. I'm still very playoff hopeful don't get me wrong but with all the cap space that we Wings should have next season if they don't add any more cap this season will be just the thing to shake up the team and perhapes point into a new direction that leads to us getting past the 2nd Round of the Playoffs and maybe getting us a Cup VERY SOON. I would love to be wrong and love to see the Wings want to win another Cup with Liddy but I still don't have those expectations for this season.

Anyone else have a feeling that we'd lose tonight?

Yeah I defiently had the feeling but I was hoping I was wrong. Major Bummer, I hate that the Jackets first win of the season had to come at our expense.

    Ian White appreciation thread

He has definetly been very solid. I'm quite impressed with what he has brought to the Wings.

This team screams for a trade

I too am frustrated that the Blue Jackets first win came against the Wings and that the Wings have lost two in a row but this season is still very young. A trade is definetly not needed right now. This team is still in the processing of gelling and moving players in and out of the line up due to injuries and call-ups, it's certainly not panic time. Let's just see how the season goes and further down the road if a trade is needed the Wings will do it. On a side note. I do find it semi-funny that the Wings and Lions have the same W-L Record at 5-2. Just sayin.

ESPN insider article re: Wing's deadline cap space

Personally I'd rather see the Wings hang on to all that money until off-season and see what happens with this seasons players contracts and see who's coming back and who's leaving thant decide who to get and load the roster with some great veteran talent as well as bringing up a few players from GR and getting the right nucleas and core for next season. Since some big contracts are going to be up after this season it would be nice to get loaded up on some top league talent. I'm not saying I'm giving up on this season as far as the Wings getting a Cup but I'd have to believe that next season's team will have a better chance than this season's team.

    Jets win their first

Congrats to the Jets for getting their first Win. Didn't really want to see Atlanta have to go but it's nice to have Winnipeg back in the NHL.

    Hudler?

This early I don't think Hudler has done enough to raise his trade value any. Maybe get closer to the deadline and see how he is than. Of course than the question may turn to whether the Wings will want to trade him when the time comes. If he can improve and get back to his form from like 08 than I'd be all for keeping him and not making a trade what would possibly see the Wings take on more Cap this season. Once this season ends after all the contracts are up that are do to be over this season and before we re-sign anyone or sign any UFA's; If I did the math right the Wing will have somewhere in the ball park of $30 Million and that is depending on what happens with the cap. Personally I'd rather see the Wings save that money for the off-season and make a big splash in Free Agency. When Mursak comes back if Emmerton is doing well enough than perhaps the Wings can look at tradeing Huds for a draft pick or something and free up that space right away. The Wings have enough depth in Offense to be able to help carry Hudler's load depending on how well he improves between now and the deadline. Just my 2 cents, this is an issue that I have been thinking about to along with some other ones throughout this season that the Wings can possibly make small adjustments to the team as we see some of the older players like Liddy, Holmsy, and Bert get older and closer to retirement.

Veterans Players Choosing to Wear visors/ Younger Players Going Withou

Something like this I think is a matter of personal preference and being able to adjust well. I've played with and without a Cage and I've always been able to play either way. I've never used a visor so I can't speak from experince. I've played goalie the majority of my playing time until I joined the sled hockey team I'm on now but I have played with a cage which is what i do now and recreational hockey with friends and family and a helmet with no cage. Some of the people I've played with cannot use a cage or a visor they have tried it and just can't make that adjustment. I imagine that a lot of the NHL Players don't wear a visor becasue they just can't. However if something like that were manditory they of course would have to adjust and adapt. I've never had a problem with either one. I know I feel a lot more safe and secure with a full cage helmet on but I'm willing and have played without a cage on my helmet. To some people the difference is night and day and for some it's a take it or leave it circumstance. I'm not saying the players shouldn't be allowed to make their own decision but if it's a matter of saftey and being able see I'd certainly be willing to take players prefernce options away if it meant a safer league as long as it didn't take anything away from the game.

Veterans Players Choosing to Wear visors/ Younger Players Going Withou

It makes me wonder if an argument can be made for full cage helmets being manditory or at least make the visors manditory. I realize it's the NHL and players should be allowed to play how they want and wear what they want as long as it's within the rules of the NHL but it just seems that with all the saftey measures the NHL takes and has taken over the years that making the helmets a bit more safer would be a good idea. I mean they already did something about the straps and them being a little bit tighter under the chin seems like you'd want to protect your face a bit more. It's happened enough times where a player takes a puck in the face and it results in serious injury. I probably can't see the NHL making a full cage helmet manditory but perhaps the visors one day. Anyone else??

How Do You Feel About The Southeast?

Ok now I see why most of you would want the Wings to move East. I definetly understand the Time Zone Change and the Wings having to play so many late games. That would be great to not have to stay up till 12 or 1 in the Morning to see a full game when they start at 10. I definetly wouldn't mind seeing less Western and Western Canadian Road Trips. It would be great to see more Eastern Teams on the schedule. So I see what's so great about the Eastern move. Whatever happens I'll be happy with. I'm fine with how it is now but I wouldn't be upset to see the Wings move to the Eastern Conference. Thanks to everyone for the eye opener.
