I don't think the Wings had the desire to win as much as we'd all love to believe all teams have a desire to Win the Cup. In my own perosnal opnion the desire has to really grow enormosly when in the playoffs and I just don't think it really did in the Wings this year. They haven't been away from the Cup for long enough to develop that fire within. Wings won in 08 and lost in what I call a horrible horrible heartbreaker in Game 7 of 09 Finals in Our building. Now I would have thought after that they would come back the next season and just tear the hell out of the NHL and get back to the Cup, obviously I knew it wason't that easy. Once the 09 Detroit Red Wings Training Camp began and seeing Helm go crashing into the boards and getting injured I knew it was going to be a bad season and sure enough it was. This past season the desire still wasn't there and I also believe the Roster wasn't right. I think you have to have the right mix of players to Win the Cup. We didn't have enough Young Guys and Veterans to make the right team to win the Cup. This year provided that we do bring up Emmerton and maybe Mursak for few games we will have the right mix. I don't know I just think it just wasn't the right season for us this season. Not to mention IMO Sharks Goalie Neimi was very lucky on a lot of those saves and plays made. I'm not going to take away the fact that he was good but the Wings should have had about 6 or 8 more goals on him and maybe would have won that series.

Osgood should(n't) be included in the HoF...
Dimaline312000 replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
I think he should be in the HHOF for one simple reason. 3 Stanley Cups, if you look at this league there have been so many great players to play in this league that have never hoisted that Stanley Cup now I don't know if there are any players that are in the HOF that don't have a Cup or haven't done something very special to be there but 1 Cup is an accomplishment. 3 Cups I think that really says something; granted it takes a whole team to win Championships but it's always been said you have to have great goaltending to Win a Cup and he as been great many years. Has he ever been up to Sawchuck or Roy status? No, of course not but he's had is own list of accomplishments. So I'm bias for the Red Wings and their players but I think he should be in the Hall of Fame just becasue he has numerous Stanley Cup Rings. -
Happy Birthday Pavs!!

B- to C+ White and Commy are both good signings I was just kinda expecting Kenny Holland to put a plan into action to get a replacement for Lidstrom this season. That didn't really happen IMO. I wasn't thrilled with the re-signing of Eave and Miller. However for the price and what we can potentially get out of them they are pretty good deals. Re-signing Ericsson and not re-signing Osgood is what I was most happey with from him. Despite what people think Ericsson is still fairly young and even though he hasn't so far played up to the Wings expecetations for where he is now he still has time and potential to up his game and whith this new contract I think that gives him incentive to play better and prove that he's worth his contract. Ozzie has been injury riddled for a while and I just didn't want to the Wings to risk having MacDonald come up as a back-up for Jimmy if Ozzie goes down with an injury especially if Joey isn't quite ready. Conks re-signing after two seasons of being gone is a good signing and I think he'll be able to take a small load off of Jimmy this season and it won't jeapordize our standings and playoff postion when that time comes. As for what Kenny H should do next I think continuing to see if there is a trade out there for Hudler would be good and I also want to see Kenny really considering bringing more and more young players up from GR over the right time.
-
Other than Larsson coming back this is exactly what I was hoping for so it's a great signing and I'm thrilled they were able to get it done. Conks is a good solid back-up and I think will do great again here in Detroit!! Welcome Back Conks!!

Why the Detroit Red Wings are headed for a fall
Dimaline312000 replied to Nightfall's topic in General
I have to agree that at some point the core of the Wings will get older but that is what the draft is all about. In the coming seasons more and more young players will eventually come up. Holland will just have to face the facts that you can't just keep signin veterans and waiving good young players. If you look at our team a small part of our young players are going to become more and more part of the core of the team as long as the play up to expectations and full potential. Helm, Abdelkader, Ericsson, Kindl and Emmerton and Mursak if the Wings will keep them instead of signing Draper. In the post cap era teams are building through the draft they have to make championship team out of what they have because teams no longer have the luxuary of spending whatever they want to get whoever they want. The Wings are doing that too. You can expect to see more and more Wings prospects coming up and helping build the team so that when the time comes for the core we have now to retire we'll already have another core of players ready to take on the challenge. I can't see a Dead Wings Era coming or anything like that but the Wings at some point may not be top contenders, I hope I'm wrong but every team has it's days in the sun and other teams have dark days. I'm very confident in our scouting staff and I"m sure they will do what they can to get the best players in our organzation to help us conted only time will tell. -
Thank you Ozzie!!!! You've had a great career, thanks for all the great memories and for helping the Wings to 3 Stanley Cups. Enjoy retirement but I'm glad you're staying with the organization.
-
This is what's best for the team. Ozzie as been tremendous for us for many seasons but he's been hampered with injuries for a while and I'd hate to see him signed and than be out again for any duration of the season or playoffs and put the Wings in a real predicament. If it was just his age I'd say he could play one more season but add that with his injuries and it's best he calls it quits. No one can take away his 3 Stanley Cup Rings and that's what I'll always remember about him. I love Ozzie to death but it's a good thing to hang it up. He's still with the organization and that's terrific he can still mentor Jimmy as well as MacDonald, McCollum, and Pearce and whoever else we sign as our back-up.
-
NHL.com said that repotedly he will retire and take a job with the team as a Goalie Consultant. I think that would be what's best for the team. He'd still be a member of the organization but he won't put his team at risk if he were to come back and get injured again. I hope it is retirement but I'll wait and see.
-
I couldn't agree more. I just can't see them holding a conference to announce he's going to return. He's had a great career and my favorite Wings goalie for a long time but it's time for him to go. But I'll wait for the official word tomorrow.
-
I definetly agree I just didn't want to get my hopes to high yet. You never know what could happen during the course of the season. I just want them all to stay healthy.

Winning More Games Holding Onto Leads Datsyuk Doing His Thing Zetterberg getting at least 50 to 60+ Points Fewer Injuries Hudler Improving Or Being Traded By The Deadline Seeing What Commy and Whitey Can Do For Us Howard, Helm, Abdelkader, and Ericsson Continuing To Improve More Kronwalling More Young Guys Getting A Chance To Play More A Stanley Cup Championship

Not that I'm trying to start anything here but I know Steve Y would probably disagree with me on that point and Lidstroms facts and stats probably prove me way wrong but that's why I said it was my opnion. I know all of Liddy's accomplishments with the Wings, but I don't see him going into the HHOF Immeadiately. If you base it on what I've heard on this thread people seem to think that he's not even Canadian so he won't and that the Hall would only consider it if he were Canadian but Steve is Canadian and he still had to wait. So it's just my opnion nothing more whether I'm wrong or not it's still just my opnion. ONCE AGAIN IT'S JUST MY OPNION!!
-
Liddy is a fantastic player but IMO he isn't better than Steve Y and he had to wait the 3 years so I think that Lidstrom will have to do the same. Which really isn't a big deal an I'm sure he's not even worried about it one bit but he will be in the HHOF that's for sure but I can't see it being any sooner than the standard waiting time of 3 years.... At least I think it's 3 years.

I can't see why the Wings would need to sign Vokoun. Sure I can see them having interest in him but with Jimmy as our starter why would we need to spend the money on him. Our main concern should be signing a back-up goalie.
-
Between what people are saying on here and other sites I'm still a little confused on this signing. Wouldn't it have just been easier to sign Osgood or Conklin. Not that I mind this signing I just thought Joey Mac was gone. Sure it's great to have a depth signing but this still doesn't resolve who the DETROIT RED WINGS Back-up is going to be. Is this a way Kenny H is saying that they may have MacDonald as our back-up goalie next season and that he is comfortable with him as a back-up? I mean I know it's a two-way deal the first season but after that he may come up. Does this mean we are going with Ozzie again and we know he's only signing a one-year deal. I personally would think that if the Wings were still going to sign Conklin it could be for more than one year and than that would put us in a goalie jam next season. Don't get me wrong Ozzie has be a great goalie for this team for many years but at 38 and with the injuries he's endured over the season's can we say as fans we are comfortable with Ozzie coming a back one more season. Put semtiments aside and look at this from a business and a sucess side and really ask yourselves if Conklin or Osgood is the better choice. I'd say Conks. Also a lot of people are saying that this could be our last season for a while to have a real shot at the Cup. Can we honestly say that this is a team right now that can really contend for a Championship. I have faith in my team but we really haven't gotten that much stronger really IMO. I guess more or less it sucks to be a fan and play this waiting game not knowing what the immediate future of this team is going to be. I was hoping to have our back-up goalie issue solved by now, every day we wait is another chance for teams to offer players we might be interested in a bigger better contract leaving us on the short end of the stick. It seems like next season may be a better season for the Wings to have a shot at the Cup becasue the team will probably be going through a small overhaul once Liddy leaves and that's going to mean bring up players from GR that are ready and bringing some other big name players to take the place of guys leaving.
-
Not quite sure what to expect from this signing. I can't see why the Wings would sign him as a GR goalie and not solve Detroit's back-up goalie issue. Is Holland losing his mind or is this just a single part of a genius plan for the Wings. I guess only time will tell. No disrespect but I hope Osgood isn't our back-up in the NHL. I was hoping to see that we signed Conklin I just hope Kenny knows what he's doing.

I'd have to go with Pavs becasue of his style and his ability to do what he does on the ice, and he does some amazing things out there. I know Ovechkin has done some pretty neat stuff as well and he probably a bit more popular but Pavs is absolutley brilliant and I think there is a difference between being Brilliant and Clever and Pavs is definetly brilliant. Not to mention he does have two Stanley Cups so I'd have to go with Pavel Datsyuk!!
-
Ok, who let the Blues fan on??
-
I'm definetly a Homer. I can't see how Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond can be two of the worst. The author sounds like an idiot and clearly has something against the Red Wings. I wouldn't worry about it much. All that matters is that we like our guys.
-
Emmerton for sure. The Wins have put so much into him and he's been in the organization for quite a long time he deserves a shot at making the team. Conner can be a call-up if necessary.
-
It's a very neat thought that Doughty could be on this roster and it would make sense to try a get a solid replacment for Nick Now but is it possible?? If they were going to make a trade for Doughty here is what I'd like to see. Stuart, Hudler, and Filppula for Doughty. No Picks at all keep the draft picks out of the equasion. If it happens I'd be on board as long as it's a fair deal.

Blashill looks great to me. I can't wait to see what he can do behind the Wings bench Assiting Babsy!!

Red Wings / Griffins sign Exelby, Pyett
Dimaline312000 replied to DangleDangleBeach's topic in General
I just think he's (Pyett) a good young D-man with a lot of potential and adds great depth to the Griffins Roster. I'd love to see him up in Detroit one day but he just needs to develop a little bit more and even if he never makes the Wings roster I believe he will be a solid player on some NHL roster. All in all I'm glad to see the Wings keep as many young guys as possible so that we can explore options in the future. Our veterans aren't getting any younger and it would be good to know who we can call up and when and who can be a main-stay on the Wings roster in the future. -
This is why Commodore was the best signing ever...

Can't wait to see what this guy can do on the ice with the Wings!!
