Nabokov claimed by NYI, refuses to report, suspended
Dimaline312000 replied to Matt's topic in General
Good for you Nabokov, stand up for what you beleive and stand up for what you want to do. His resoning is clear and I quite agree with it. After he had the time to get ready for to play and got back up to speed with the Islanders the season would just about be over and he would have only played a few games thus not really providing any value or good use. It doesn't sound like Nabokov will be able to come to Detroit unless they make a trade and I'd hate to see the Wings lose a Draft pick for a goalie like Nabokov when it could be put to use with drafting another player to make Detroit a deeper team. I'd rather see the Wings make another attempt with another goalie or trade a current player. The waiver rule really needs to be changed to avoid all of this mass confusion from happening again. -

I'm gonna try to make this the last thing I post on this subject and it relates to the person saying that if Nabokov didn't reprot to Detroit we'd want his head on a platter or whatever. First I don't see Detroit doing that to another team call me bias but I can't see Ken Holland doing something like that. Secondly and this may be the weaker argument but I also can't see to many players not wanting to come to Detorit so I don't think not reporting would even be a thought but I could be wrong once again chalk it up to me being a Wings Fan. Nabokov want's to be in Detroit no offense to the Islanders but they are in a rebuilding stage right now and for a goalie like Nabokov I can't see where he would have a good place with the organzation anyways. Suspending him would be stupid becasue then no on gets him and it's a waste. Granted the Islanders played by the rules to get Nabbs but it is an underminded way to get him. What type of publicity is the NHL getting on this situation?... I would assume negative this hurts the league and the teams that are involved and it story like this don't reach out to other fans so it's not like it's doing this league any good. This is one of the many rules I personally think need to be changed along but now its not the time or place to start discussing a bunch of rule changes. Sorry for rambling and going on so but this has now turned into somewhat of a ticking time bomb that really doesn't favor anyone involved. We fans are getting into with each other and other teams fans mostly NY Islanders and I would proabably assume that Holland has been on the phone trying to figure out all of this and what Detroit's next step is. Do the Wings wait and see if this all pans out and there is a slim possibility we get Nabokov or do they right away start looking else-where?? Is Detroit fine with what goalies we do have or not? So really this what started out to be a glimmer of hope to help the Detorit Red Wings out with all the injuries has now become a sea of negativity for everyone involved. They days to come should be very interesting. -

Just shows the ignorance of the Islanders and this whole situation. I stick by my orginal complaint about this and that the rest of the NHL Teams should have allowed Nabokov to go to which team he agreed to a deal with. If someone wanted him they should have taken the intiative (sorry for the spelling) to sign him. -

It was pretty dumb of the Islanders to claim him even though the price was right. Knowing that Nabby wanted to go to a team that is at least in contention for a Playoff Spot and preferably a shot at the Cup. I hope he doesn't report to any team that he doesn't want to play for. If it takes to long to put him on a roster he can be happy with I'd say go back to the KHL and at least make some decent money and then try again in the off season to go to a NHL team. s***ty and Dumb of the Islanders if you ask me but since no one did I'm still putting my 2 Cents in. -

I see what you mean I'm sure if the Isles didn't take him some other team would I just think that the other nhl teams knew Detroit put forth the effort to sign him and he wanted to come here obviously. Just the whole tactic of a team not letting Detroit get a player they wanted is dirty in my mind. This whole rule is just really messed up in my opnion let's just let the teams sign who they want without having to expose them to the rest of the nhl because as someone on here said it makes the player look bad to. I would have been fine not hearing about this at all and just let Detorit bring up MacDonald or whoever they wanted from GR when they want them. I don't think it's necessarly a good idea to take players away from GR especially the closer the playoffs get team chemistry may be affected. This whole thing is a big mess now. Hopefully everything pans out and the Wings are just fine no matter what happens but I think it was a good idea to sign an insurance goalie. -

Ok so now what? I personally think it's pretty s***ty of th Isles to do that, I realize it's the nature of the beast in the business side of hockey but given NY's goalie situation I don't think they should have done that. So do we still have a crack at him or are we out of the running for him now? I just don't understand all the rules and everything in this rule. If we don't get him what is our next step? Do we just keep calling up GR Goaltenders or do we look somewhere else? I'd hate to have to make a trade for a goalie and especailly if it did come to losing a draft pick. I know the Wings have a lot of depth but I just don't like trading draft picks. So does anyone have any idea what we can do and where we go from here?? -
Is he even a possibility when Ozzie retires. We are going to need another goalie. I know the Nabokov thing is going on right now but no garuntee he'll stay past this season. Just wondering what all our possibilities are right now.

Glad to hear NJ or Washington won't claim him now just 27 more team to go right? Isn't LA in the running too?? -
I know this is a long shot but I was just wondering if anyone would be willing to trade any Poker Chips that you may have for some hockey cards? I'm interested in any poker chips and I do have a ton of cards. Now I do have to warn everyone I'm still a big hockey card collector so for the most part I don't have very many Red Wings cards to trade but I do have some great players past and present and I probably have some playes that do or have played for the Wings in other teams jerseys. Just let me know of anything. Thank you.

How would it be doing the Wings a Favor if NJ did pick up Nabokov from wiavers than put him back on. I'm not quite sure I get that. Wouldn't it just be easier to let the Wings just get him? -

That I do understand and I can see you point. I guess I'm just being biast in favor of the Wings I just don't like the concept of being able to sign a player but not be able to get him becasue all the other teams get a crack at him. I just don't see why if someone did want him at this point in time why they didn't take it upon themselves to make him the offer. It' certainly not the end of the world if we don't get Nabby I just wonder what's next if we don't get him. -
I've always been a superhero guy I've always liked Superman, Batman, Spiderman, and all the X-Men so I'm pretty excited to see what this is all about as for the Red Wing he looks pretty cool. I've seen all of them so far as they've revealed them and he does really look like one of the cooler ones so far maybe just cause I'm a Wings fan but it does look pretty cool.

I think it would be good to get Nabby but I'm not going to hold my breath about it. I guess we'll see in 24 hours. I think it's pretty s***ty if a team does claim him. No one wanted him at the start of the season now I understand circumstances change throughout the course of the season but if another team wanted him they should have made the effort to sign him. Now if he does get claimed I just wonder what the Wings next step will be. -
This coming weekend January 8th and 9th my team the Grand Rapids Sled Wings are going to be in Fraser, Michigan for a League Sled Hockey Tournament. We will be playing teams from around our league the Mid American Great Lakes Sled Hockey League. This is Tournament Number 2 of 4 and it's being played at Great Lake Sports City Arena, all games will be played on the Erie Rink. I know that Sled Hockey is not that appealing to many but this is really fun hockey to watch and helps support our Teams. The games start at 2PM on Saturday and are played until 3 or 4PM on Sunday. There are 5 teams in this league the Grand Rapids Sled Wings, Michigan Sled Dogs, Pittsburgh Mighty Penguins, Fort Wayne/Turnstone Flyers and Ohio United. I know I probably shouldn't be doing in advertising on here but this really is great hockey to watch and admission is FREE. So if you are dying to watch some hockey and can't afford tickets to a regular hockey game please come down and support our league. There is a lot of great Talent and Skill on all the teams just about every team but one I believe has at least one USA Junior National or National Player on the Roster so it makes for goo tough competitive hockey so I encourage anyone who is near or even far come watch some Great Sled Hockey Action. The address to the arena where all the games will be played is below. Thanks and Go Red Wings!! Any more information needed please feel free to ask away!! Great Lakes Sports City 34400 Utica Road Fraser, Michigan 48026 PS: For anyone who may attend keep your eyes out for #38 on the Grand Rapids Sled Wings Roster that will be me.

For anyone who was wondering; my team the Grand Rapids Sled Wings finished the Tournament in Fraser 1-3 which I know that sounds like a bad record but for only being a 2nd year adult team and only have 2 Full forward lines and 3 d-men it was pretty good. We finished the tournament in Pittsburgh 1-3 as well. Here are the scores of our Games that we played. 8-0 Pittsbugh Might Penguins. Not to make excuses but they have 4 players including their goalie on either the USA Junior or USA National Sled Hockey Teams. Also every one of the players on Pittsburght are very fast and have been playing with each other for about 5 or more years. Next game was 3-2 Ohio. 2 Players on that team from the USA Junior National team but we held our ground and had a bad bounce go in on us at the end. Today Vs Fort Wayne it was 3-1 Grand Rapids and the 4th and final game against the Michigan Sled Dogs it was 6-0 Michigan. They are a very physical team for a Sled Hockey team we all had some bumps and bruises after that one. It was a great tournament and we are getting better. For anyone who is interested in watching Sled hockey that live here in Michigan I encourage you to go see either the Sled Dogs at Great Lakes Sports City or the Sled Wings at Griff's Icehouse. Next tournament is February 12 and 13 in Fort Wayne. Thanks everyone.

Just wanted to let you all know that if you wanted to see a small clip of the game you can go to YouTube.com and type in Sled Hockey @ Joe Louis Arena and it should be the top video on the page. Also there is a more in depth look in another small video that is on facebook about the entire event that the Red Wings put on for all of Disabled Hockey. Thanks for all the support.

No offense to Ozzie but I hope he does Retire. He has been my favorite goalie for years and I'm very happy and thankful he is on this roster and what he has done with this team. However, when it's your time to hang it up it's just that time. I wish him all the best and no matter what he decides I'll be happy for him.

Meant to get back on here sooner but I was busy the past week. Playing at the Joe was an unbeleiveable experience. There was nothing like skating right out to the center ice Hockeytown Logo and touch it with my hand. I wish I could say the game was a success for my team but we played a team from Fraser that was an all adult team against a few of our kids and the rest were our adult team and the team from Fraser had been playing together for years so my team lost 9-0 we only got one shot on goal. The whole days was a blast. Watching both teams practice in the morning was great. Being in the basement of the Joe where our locker rooms were was AWESOME!! Seeing all the names and years of the Championship Teams on the wall was soo cool. Seeing the Stock room where all the Merchandise was kept than after the game both teams and families when to the Manhattan Room in the Joe and had Pizza for Dinner and staying in the room until the game seeing all the cool photos and memorbilia on the walls. Than whlie we were still in waiting for the doors to open a few of the players came through the room, I got to shake Zetterberg's, Helm's MacDonald,s and Cleary's hand was just fantastic and then of course having the Wings win just topped off a great day and wonderful experience!! It's something that will stick with me forever.

I'll believe it when I see it but it would be good to get him out of the NHL.
