Hmmmmmmmm, This happened 5 days after I traded Kane for two first round draft picks in franchise mode on NHL 09 for PS3. I wonder if the two are related?????????????????? J/K LOL!!!!

You're right MadMan it seemed like NHL.com could have provided a little more info on a team that Was in the Stanley Cup finals two years in a row. It would have been nice to see all the tabs filled with Red Wings info but apparently the NHL and NHL.com didn't feel they need to provide a little more information on the Detroit Red Wings. They could have broke that down a little bit more and used the tabs for each little section but they used it all in 2.

Red Wings should be Miller Chill.... IMO. Don't have a real reason it's just my favorite beer.

Just got done reading the 30 in 30 article on the Red Wings and it was a real good article and summary of the team and what we as fan could expect for the up-coming season. Reading it makes me excited for next season and now I can't wait even more for Training Camp to get the season going. I suggest everyone read it because it is good.

I really thought that Conklin's helmet was really cool this year. I love Ozzie and everything but other than the Style of his Helmet there is nothing special about it.

Gotta say I love Ken Wreggett's Penguins Helmet. Batman Retruns was my favorite of that sequence of Batman Movies and Danny Devito playin the Penguin was awesome I thought so that is a really cool helmet. I also like Trevor Kidd's Flames Helmet, those Dragons are pretty ferice looking. Finally I've always liked Cujo's Rabid Dog Helmet. I have a Street Hockey Goalie Helmet that has that same pattern but instead of a dog it's a Tiger. Some great helmets, I don't know if I can pick just one as a favroite. I've only seen one goalie in the AHL dawn the mask that I thought up to put on my Ice Hockey Helmet and just haven't yet. It's Jason Vorhees and it was a cool design.

While that is true. You have to let reality set in know that we aren't going to win a Cup every year. You have to expect greatness out of your team every year that is what makes a fan but it's the simple fact of it's NOT going to happen every year. We shouldn't have expected to win the Cup this past season and we didn't. You can keep your hopes high but you have to keep your feet on the ground as well. There are 29 other teams in the NHL and a lot of them are getting stronger every year. We have a great team and yes we should expect great things from them every year but sometimes you have to settle for winning some battles so that you can win the War later. That's what make a rebuilding team. Build on small accomplishments. Just like I said in my theard Still Champions. We should take the fact that we were Central Division Champions and Playoff Confernce Champions and we build on that. It doesn't mean that well we were that close this past season so this season we'll win it. It doesn't always happen. I love the fact that fans expect great things from their team(s). But from where I'm coming from I don't want to misconstrew that expectation with arragance and ignoracy. As for the person that said Pick one (refering to being Contenders or not). I belive that we are Cup conteders every year but that doesn't mean we are going to win it every year that is what I meant when I said we will and we won't contend for the Cup this coming season. Sorry for the mix-up.

I'm playing in one of my dynasty modes on NHL 09 and counting the Cups the Detroit Red Wings have acutally won and the ones that I've one on the game I'm one Stanley Cup away from tieing the Habs with 24 Stanley Cups and that got me thinking about what can Detroit do realistically as far as getting that close before Toronto or Montreal win another Cup. I know the The Wings have 11 Cups, the Leafs have 13, and the Habs have 24. What do you really think (please be realistic) the Detroing Red Wings can do to get close to either the Leafs or even the Habs before either one of them win another Championship? Both Toronto and Montreal are showing signs of improvement year after year and I think they are both close to winning another Stanley Cup but I'm not sure if the Wings win more before they do. I know that 24 is quite far-fetched for Detroit to get that anytime soon. Honestly, I think we can may be able to tie Toronto and maybe even get one ahead of them and definetly it would have helped that out alot if we could have got it done this year too. I still believe out of these three we do have the best chance to win another Cup the soonest. What do you all think. How close can Detroit get to the Leafs or the Habs before either team wins another Cup??

I can see this as being a rebuilding year, I mean anything can happen and I think that a deal will probably get done close to the deadline. We will still have a strong team and I think they could still contend for the Cup. We can't expect to get the Cup every year and I know we don't .(it would be nice.... for a while.) We may have to deal with the fact that we may not be Champions again for a few more years. Let's not jump to conclusions yet but we shouldn't be suprised if we don't get the Cup this season again. I'll be happy if we can get another Cup within 3 to 5 years. We'll just have to see what happens.

I gotta agree, the Habs will get a Cup before the Leafs will. Not sure when Detroit will get another Cup but I do believe that the Wings can pass the Leafs in Cups before the Leafs can get one more. Montreal is a team that is up and coming they've had some problems in the past and I think they are rectfying their situation and becoming a better all-around team. If the Wings can get another Stanley Cup within the next 3 to 5 seasons I think they have a great chance to pass the Leafs. I apologize for the mistake of saying the Leafs have 13 Cups instead of saying Toronto has 13 Cups. I can see Montreal winning a Stanley Cup in a few seasons but I don't think it will be this coming season or the season after.

You're right he will have his chance to prove how ready he is for the NHL at Camp but I think you are right he will probably see more time in GR this season rather than less time in the NHL on the 4th line. I want to see him in Detroit very bad but not at the cost of his development and him becoming a better player stayin in GR for one more season. Now with the signing of Willimas that adds even more question as to if Abs will make the NHL roster or stay in the AHL.

No, we don't need a goon we do need a good physical player that can stand up to other physical players on other teams but we don't need a player that is going to cheap shot or get into penalty trouble. We don't need a good we just need some guys to be a little more physical.

Holland has already said that he believes that Abs is ready to play in the NHL. Yes all the young guys could stand a little more development but I think Abs would make a good 3 or 4 line forward and who knows he may see more time than we think. If Grand Rapids was going to win a Calder Cup anytime soon it was going to be this past season with names like Helm, Leino, Abdelkader, Ericsson, Kindl, and Howard. Grand Rapids won't celebrate a Championship season for about 2 to 4 more years. Griffins no matter how they do in the Regular season they always seem to find a way to lose in the Playoffs.

Ok, sign ONE Forward and keep Abs on the NHL Roster.

There's finally a Michigan team in the ECHL now and Detroit decides to go with an Ohio team. WTF. Cancel the affliation with the the fishsticks and go with the K-Wings!!!!

Keep the Cap Space and make a deal at the deadline. We have a solid team right now. Don't spend money just to spend it. Yeah I'd love to have Kessel on this Red Wings roster but I don't realistically see that happening anytime soon. Stay with what we have and see how it goes from there. If after a month or so something isn't working out than make a deal, you don't have to wait for the deadline to make a deal we can make a deal the first day of the Regular season if we want to. I like what we have and I think we should stay put for now.

While I somewhat agree that Chelly can still contribute on the ice. Seeing him at camp the past two seasons he was always the last one on the ice and the first one off the ice and out the door. Now I know that that is a part of his age but at the same time that is the point. His age is limiting him. I also think he may have lost some of his work-ethic. I'm not saying he can't still be a little useful on the ice but as more of a fill-in player of on the very last Defensive Pairing. I think he'd be better served as a Assitant Coach or even a head Coaching job in the AHL or in the NHL if he can find one. He is a good player but he was a great player. I understand he wants to play with his son one day but he has to be realistic as to what his body can and cannot do. The past couple seasons his play has result in goals against the Wings or penalties that have either resulted in a goal or made our PK work harder than need-be. It's up to him but he needs to do what is best for him but understand where the team that does want to sign him is coming from whether it be the Rangers or not.

The hell with helping the Wings get back to the SCF.......... Help the Wings become SC Champions again.

I personally think that Chelly should strictly stick to one year deals and take it from their. At his age as he and his body get's older and mother nature keeps doing what she does to the human body, he really can't look that for ahead becaue anything can happen. I don't see why the Rangers would even want to think about looking that for ahead at a player that age. Chelly is a great player I'm not trying to take anything away from him but he has to face facts that his age is going to limit him.

With all this talk about a good number of quality free agents available around the league and players leaving and just everything that has been talked about so far this offseason it got me thinking. If the economy ever gets better and fans start attending more and more games and more teams get better financially. What's the most you think the NHL Salary Cap will ever get to? Or will there ever be a time where the Cap hits a number and just stays forever? Also what would you like the Cap to be? This is an open discussion on the NHL Salary Cap from where it is now to where it may be in 5, 10, 15, 20 years or more. You can discuss where you want it to be and when and what you would like to do or see done by whatever team to make moves or just utilize the cap. You can be realisic with you numbers or no it's up to you. Open discussion on the Cap make it what you want. I just wanted to start this because I've been doing a lot of thinking about the Cap and the coming seasons. Me personally I would have liked to have seen the Cap go up by at least $1 Million this season but it just wasn't a possibility. I would love to see the Cap get to $60 or $65 Million one day if possible within the next 10 seasons. Alot of that depends on what the economy does and if the NHL and NHLPA could ever reach that much of an agreement to allow teams that have the capability to spend more money be able to. I'm not sure what players I would want on the Wings roster as far as big name stars that aren't already on the Wings roster. I've love to have an All-Star Roster of nothing but great players that can buy into the Wings system and be a successful team. It would be nice to have a few more big names on the Wings roster and still be able to have anywhere from $3 to $8 Million in Open Cap space once a season started to make adjustments. It's just the Wings and us fans are feeling the Cap Crunch the most in 08 and the 09 seasons and even though I'm comfortable with the roster we have now it would be nice to have a few more $Million$ in Cap Space to pick someone up once the season has started or make a trade later in the season if need-be. Just my thoughts. Please share how you feel about the Cap and what you would like to see happen or what you would do if you were in charge of the Salary Cap and an NHL Roster.

I agree that having $5 or $6 million more does sound more appealing that it may actually be but I'm just reminded of the Pre-Cap days when the Wings had and still do have the money to go out and get some big name players at they could get to buy into the Red Wings system a be successful. I'm grateful the Wings aren't one of these franchises that are in trouble financially. It would be nice to have a couple mill available at the start of the season and still have it in case we are in need of a dealine deal. I feel confortable with the team we have; don't get me wrong. I think we we still have and be a quality team with quality players that know how to do their jobs and can do them well. I'm not going to start thinking about next June or anything but I do feel very comfortable going into the season with the team we have and the prospects we have lined up to come on the Wings roster in the coming years.

This brings up the question what defensive options do we have if Lils can't play by the start of the Next season? We can't trade Lils if he's injured can we? If he can't play by next season are we still going to have to trade a defenseman after camp? Hopefully Lils will make some dramatic improment over the next month or so and be able to play when the season starts but if he can't than where does that leave us? Are we still ok if Lils can't play or do we need to think about bringin up Kindl early? I know it's a lot of questions but I just don't want to be lacking Defensively next season.
