    spectors hockey wings stuff

It looked to me like that article was all speculation with the exception of possibly Sammy turning down an offer by the Wings. It has been stated many times that Hossa wants to stay in Detroit and he does want a long term deal. The key is going to be if he is willing to take less money for a long-term deal in Detroit. I still firmly believe that Chelly is done in Detroit. I like Chelly but he has become a part-time Defenseman this season and the Wings do not need one of those. If the cap allows it and the Wings really want him back than maybe he can come back as just if someone gets injured or something. I want Chelly to retire a Wing but that is going to depend on a lot. Sammy to me probably does want out of Detroit. I don't see him being a huge star anywhere esle either however he may play a bigger role with another team that just needs to fill and offensive hole. I have to imagine we will hear something about what is going on before or during the Draft. If the Wings are looking to make a deal for some draft picks for this years draft I would think they need to get something done soon.

    Still Champions

If the Detroit Red Wings Organzation didn't consider Winning the Central Division and the Western Confrence in the playoffs Championships than there would be no banners go up next season. There will be two more banners added for next season. They aren't the One(s) we wanted and not the One(s) the Wings wanted but they will still be up there and they will still say on them Champions.

    Still Champions

I know this is kind of a yesterday topic but I'm still having a hard time with the fact that the Wings lost in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals by only one goal. I know we just didn't have it in us this season and for whatever it's worth the Pens were good and did have a bit of good luck on there side. However I feel a lot better knowing that even though we didn't win the Stanley Cup again we are still Champions. Central Division Champions: I know that isn't a very big Championship but it is an accomplishment and it can be difficult just to achieve something like that. We worked hard for it and were able to get it done again this season. How many do we have total? A great accomplishment that we can look back on and use it to build in the future. Western Confernce Playoff Champions: This gets a little more recognition seeing as we are the first team in quite a few seasons to have made it past the first round after being the Stanley Cup Champions from the year before. Considering who we had to play just to get to it. Columbus Blue Jackets- I know the Wings swept them in the first round but after the type of regular season the Wings had agains the Jackets I think that was a huge accomphisment. I still think back to that 6-2 Loss at the Joe in early March that I believe was the wake up call for the Wings. Good series win in 4. Anaheim Ducks- That was the series that I believe probably is what may have cost the Wings the Cup. 7 Game absolutley Grueling series that was physical and long. Lot's of hard hits and some good plays made. This series really took a toll on the Wings and I have to admit in that Game 7 I didn't like our chances going into OT even though it was at the Joe so I was quite relieved that Cleary was able to put the puck in the net with like 3 minutes left to give the Wings the Win in 7. Chicago Blackhawks- This series wasn't as long however it was still somewhat physical. After taking the first two games in Detroit I was fairly confident the Wings would handle this team very well. Game 3 I think was the Wings biggest hicup in that series. After firmly take Game 4. Game 5 was held scoreless until late in the third. I think if it wasn't for that shift from Darren Helm in the 3rd the Wings might have had to play one more game in that series. And of course Helm's OT Winner gave the Detroit Red Wings the Western Confernce Championship for the second consecutive season in 5. So even though we didn't get the Cup we had a great regular season and a good playoff run. It's unfortunate the Wings couldn't pull of that one final push for the Cup but with what they had to deal with I'd say that did real good and just these small Championships are something to build on for next season and the seasons after. Let's Go Detroit Red Wings!!!!!!!! Central Division and Western Confernce Champions!!!!!!!!
  5. Well considering the Wings took a goalie last season in Thomas McCollum and a defenseman the draft before in Brendan Smith. I'd like to see the Wings pick up a forward. I print all the picks ones all the rounds are over and the draft is complete, I'll see if I can find them from the previous 2 or 3 drafts and see if I'd take a differnt rout. But for right now I'd say get a solid and skillful forward. Don't forget if we trade Huds or Filps we could get some other draft picks and maybe move up higher in the 1st round and get two players in the 1st round. I think if the Wings get more picks they will most likely get pics for later rounds in the draft.

    Still Champions

Moral and Morale are a big part of hockey. I'm sure the Wings players aren't looking at this season as a complete success but it was a success. You're not always last if you ain't first. If I may be so blunt I believe the New York Islanders were last. I'm willing to bet the Wings are looking at this season and looking at what they DID accomplish and these two things are right up there. Losers aren't always losers. Sometimes the best Winners are Losers. We aren't always going to win the Cup. We aren't always going to have a season like 07/08 or 01/02 where the Wings took everything from the Central Division, Western Conference Season Champions, President's Trophy Winners/Champions, Western Confernce Playoff Champions, to Stanley Cup Champions. You have to look at the good and we took a lot of good out of this season. I'm making excuses for what we did or didn't accomplish but before you can become the Stanley Cup Champions you have to at least become Confernce Champions and that is still a Championship non-the-less. If I take nothing more out of this 08/09 season I will take those two Championships.

    Still Champions

I'm not trying to discredit the Pens but did we are did we not win the Central Division Championship and the Western Conference Championship. Stanley Cup- No. No matter what anyone says no one can take away the Championships that we have won this season. It's just like in 04/05 when the Detroit Pistons lost the NBA title to San Antonio I believe in 7 Games if I remember correctly. The Detroit Pistons were still Easter Confernece Champions. Or even when the Detroit Tigers lost the World Series to St. Louis. The Detroit Tigers were still American League Champions. A Championship isn't always mesuared as who was the last one standing but what you have done to get there. So as much as you nay-sayers say we aren't Champions just becasue we didn't Win the Cup we are Still Champions.............. At least in my book.

Surely Chelios is done as a Wing?

I personally wish he would retire because I'd love for him to retire as a Red Wing but it's up to him. I just hope the Wings don't get soft and sign him again if he doesn't retire. I don't know any team in the NHL these days that are going to want a part-time Defensman because that is what he has become this past season for the Red Wings. Best of luck to Chelly in whatever he decides to do.

    Any wings using Twitter?

I use Twitter a bit, I've never seen any Wings players on there when I've done my searching for buddies. I'll check again and see what I can come up with but I doubt there is anything real. I have a few Fake Wings players as Buddies on Facebook and MySpace and I have a couple of actual current Griffins and older NHL players on Facebook. You're welcome to follow me on twitter, My address is twitter.com/DetRbkGoalie.

Longshot but is it possible Penguins could match what Oilers

Whatever Bettman wants Bettman will get. God I hope not. Why can't the Wings do that?.?.

Favorite team or teams OTHER than the Wings

I like the Wild as well, I'm not quite sure why I do I just like the Minnesota Wild. I also like the Boston Bruins. As for the only Canadian team that I like goes back to the Orginal Six. I like the Toronto Maple Leafs. Other than that my favorite teams are minor league teams.

Do you trade Flip in order to sign Hossa?

I'd trade Filps to keep Hossa. Give the man another chance. No he didn't produce in the playoffs but I think that Filps can be relpaced maybe not right away but I think he can. Hossa is great player and if he is really willing to take less money to stay a Red Wing than I say let Filps go, maybe we get someon for Filps that can replace him for much less. I doubt that would happen but maybe. Keep Hossa give him another chance. Sign him to a deal but don't put in a no-trade caluse or give him a NTC for the first 2 or 3 seasons of like a 5 to 9 year deal. Hossa HOssa HOSsa HOSSa HOSSA!!!!!

    Still Champions

Not to start a huge disagreement with you or anything but I do disagree it a point. I agree that the Pens are the Stanley Cup Champions. However the NHL recognizes the Divisional Winners as Division Champions and the Western Conference is also a Championship, did we not get a Trophy for winning the first 3 rounds of the playoffs. Granted it wasn't the Stanley Cup but we do still get two more Banners up at the Joe for next season and they will both say Champions. It is however you want to intrepret it as but to me it's still two Championships. You do have to take the good with the bad, and you have to make the most with what you do have and not dwell on what you don't have. We don't have the Cup and that is something that is still hard for me to take seeing as we only lost by one goal. I don't know if it would have made it any easier for me personally if the Pens won Game 7 by the score of 6-1 and made it look like the Wings didn't have a chance. We didn't have the success we had last year and we are NOT the Stanley Cup Champions this year but in my book we are still Champions.

Lidstrom leads Red Wings up for awards

I hope the Wings can pull one award out of tonight. Good luck to all the nominees!!

Rafalski, Stuart, Draper, Maltby, Holmstrom and Filppula

I don't see a need to trade Holmsy, Drapes or Malts. Yes they are getting older but they weren't why the Wing lost this past season. The team was just way to tired and to injured. Raf and Stuart are good solid D-men. I will admit I didn't like that it was Sturat's doing that caused the Game 7 two goals by the Pens but he isn't the reason the team couldn't Win. As for Filps, I think he would be great trade bait. Either for picks or to fill another hole somewhere. I can see Filps being traded this off-season, I'm not saying he WILL be but I can see if the Wings need to free some cap and want to re-sign Hossa than Filps and Huds are pretty much gone. Just becasue some of our guys are getting older doesn't mean we need to kick them to the curb just yet. I see all of them finishing out their contracts and retiring as Detroit Red Wings. They may drop down a line or two to give players like Helm and Abdelkader and Leino if we keep him a chance at sparking the team. I agree, stop saying stuff like that becasue it's not going to happen.

    Goalie next season

For me this is the biggest ? this off-season besides Hoping we resign Hossa. I play Goalie so I have a paticular interest in this area. Ozzie is Ozzie I think we keep him for sure. I would like to see us give Howard a chance but if we do and we let go of Conks (who has proven he is a quality goalie) and give Jimmy that chance and he can't rise to the occasion than we are stuck having to make a move for another back-up goalie. Where as if we keep Conks we are basically saying you have no chance in hell of making the Detroit Red Wings Jimmy. This goes back to that one topic that I've see either on here or on the Red Wings Website Forums. We've let go of players before and it has come back to burn us. Jimmy may not work here in Detroit and be traded and become a quality starting goalie for another team in the NHL. I truly believe that McCollum is our goalie of the future and I think he'll be ready to make that jump to the NHL when Ozzie is ready to close the book on his career. It just depends on what the Wings think. This issue may be one of the ones that is not taken care of until close to training camp or so. I would really like to give Howard a solid chance but it would cost us. However keep Conks and trade Howard, which he could be some good trade bait to get a draft pick or a quality player if we work it well. This is a tough issue, I'm really interested in seeing what is going to happen to our goaltending come next season.

Who would the front office trade?

I'm going to answer this the way I handled it when I was playing NHL 09 for PS3. I would indeed trade Draper and Malts but I'm not sure that I would try to get another player. I believe since it's been a few seasons in my Dynasty mode what I did was wait until the 09/10 season in my game and I did trade them but it was for a 4th round draft pick (mind you there is only 5 rounds in the game NHL 09). The thing is with the way the NHL is today and with teams choosing a lot of youth over experience I don't think we'd be able to get any draft pick for them. I guess if someone actually wanted them and was willing to make the Wings a handsome offer that I wouldn't think twice about trading them. I don't see Holland doing that becasue he is very loyal to his players. Personally I wouldn't trade Homer, I would let him retire with us. He's a great player and can be sent down a line or two but I think after the 09/10 season he'll be done. Unless he shocks me and retires this season. We need to bring up our younger players and give them a Full season to see what all they can do and than see if changes need to be made from there. I like Malts and Drapes but I'd sit them for Abs and Helm or even Leino if I had the chance.

    Danny Heatley anyone?

Not something I'd like to see. Heatley is a great player and all but he just would't fit into the Detroit system, not to mention Cap constrictions and how it would effect the already established roster of Great players.

    Training Camp 2009?

Great, Thank you very much. Looks like I will have to make a trip to TC in Late June to get my tickets. I don't want to risk waiting for the Fax Sale and not have any tickets remaining for it.

    Training Camp 2009?

On the Training Camp Website it says in-person ticket sale is June 27th and then it has a link that says Full Story. I 've tried onpening it up but for some reason my computer won't let me open the link. Can someone post it on here if they can get it open? Thanks.

    Why let Hudler go?

I'd prefer not to let Hudler go, I still remember his goal in Game 4 of the 08 Finals last year. Scoring in the Third period to give the Wings the 3-1 Series lead. If Hudler doesn't score that goal who knows what would have happened last season. However, Hossa or Hudler even though I like Huds and he has a Cup and has been a well developed player for the Wings I'd have to still take Hossa. Hudler is a great player there's no denying that but unfortuately someone has to go and that someone may be Huds. Who knows maybe Huds and Hossa will be gone this off-season and the Wings will get a bigger name Free Agent. With the Cap the way it is and the Wings having a surplus of quality players a couple to a few of those players are going to have to go. Just depends on what direction the Wings want to take.

Detroit to offer Hossa long term deal

I say give Hossa another chance. I like having Hossa here in Detroit; yes he didn't deliever in the playoffs but a lot of players didn't deliver in the playoffs. I think now that he has a season in Detroit under his belt he will be a better player for the Wings for the entire season and playoffs. I hope the Wings and Hossa work something out I sure would love to see him stick around for a while. Just because he didn't do well in the playoffs this season doesn't mean he can do better in the coming years.

    Coyotes staying in Phoenix

Great to hear that, I really didn't want to see another NHL team in Ontario. Hopefully the Yotes can bounce back. Maybe do something in the draft to get a solid player that can help them build a good team and a team that can maybe make it to the playoffs this coming season.
