    Shades of Fedorov?

Which is why I titled the thread SHADES of Fedorov. I think it's pretty much common knowledge that Fedorov was one of the most talented to ever lace them up. 5 goals is a pretty dominant performance, no matter what era. It's no coincidence that the last Wing to do it was Fedorov. It takes a natural goal scorer to to do that. It just so happens that Fedorov was a natural goal scorer (or could be if he wanted to) on top of everything else. I don't agree on the coasting part. I went to a lot of games in the 90's and it was pretty obvious when Fedorov was on auto-pilot. Franzen, I can't say with any certainty. I haven't seen as many games since Stevie retired, so I don't know if my perception of Franzen coasting is legit. You've heard Babcock use the term "engage". Sometimes it took Fedorov a while or an incident in order to engage. Sometimes he didn't engage at all. But he was good enough that he still wasn't a liability.

    Shades of Fedorov?

QFT... crazy to say that about someone with so many accolades, but it's true. If only he would have played with the tenacity of Helm every night... oooh baby. Someone mentioned that Fedorov also did a lot of things during a regular game that went unnoticed, and I agree with that. But there were definitely more than a few games where he was definitely coasting. But Fedorov coasting was still a top 3 forward. Lol.

    Shades of Fedorov?

Totally agreed. And I'm a Feds supporter. I always just chalked him up as quirky. A by-product of his skill. I would have welcomed him back any time. But you hit the nail on the head... it's the way Franzen seems to score so effortlessly that makes you wonder if he is Fedoroving.

    Shades of Fedorov?

Ya. I know it's kinda hard to have an objective comparison between Feds and anybody here at LGW, but my first though last night was how weird it was that Franzen has been annoying me this season with what I perceive to be a lack of effort on some nights, only to explode for 5 goals. Very Fedorov'esque to me.

    Shades of Fedorov?

I remember watching it on TV. Amazing game. Obviously Franzen can't hold a candle to Fedorov in terms of overall skill, but Franzen annoys me like Feds used to. He's one of those players that makes me wonder what would happen if he gave 100% all the time.

(see, I can spam threads with useless responses too)

    Shades of Fedorov?

Not in the way he plays... in the way I feel watching him play...
  8. That's a beautiful sight. I'd love to see that Flip/Hudler/Abby line catch fire.

Wings Have To Toughen Up Soon

Man... your Hudler hate runs pretty deep. Obviously it would be better if Hudler was big and mean on top of everything else. Unfortunately, players like that don't grow on trees at Hudler's salary. You can still dream. I'm just sayin.

    Skills Competiton

It was a little better last year. Maybe they should set up another net at the blue line facing the other one and make the player do five figure eights around the nets with someone feeding the puck into the center every time he comes around. That would speed it up.

Wings Have To Toughen Up Soon

Not like playoff powerplay time counts or anything... He's a staple.

    Red Wings Skills Contest

I don't think he would do to well unless they replaced the targets with shin pads.

    Thoughts on Salei

People keep saying they would rather have Lilja... you guys talking about post concussion Lilja? Cuz the pre-concussion Lilja doesn't exist anymore. And from what I saw, post-concussion Lilja was more or less useless.

I didn't get past the stoooopid, waste of time, twenty minutes I'll never get back breakaway debacle. Unorganized, cheesy and bad music. Not compelling in the slightest.

Wings Have To Toughen Up Soon

Ya... but it's been the default example for too long now. It comes up constantly in every toughness thread. The pro-toughness peeps slam it down like it's the ace of spades pretty regularly. And all it really proves is that Hudler got knocked the f*** out and it affected his play the rest of the way. Big deal. Like it hasn't happened to countless other athletes in every sport. Hell, I twisted my wrist up playing fooz ball one time and it took me about a week to gather up the courage to try that shot again.

Wings Have To Toughen Up Soon

Wow... people are still citing that hit on Hudler as a sign of softness?
  17. Trying to sort this all out... So Snow's best move is to obviously keep the rights to Nabby until the end of the season so he can toll next season. The Wing's have no best move. All they can do is wait. So what's Nabby's best move? Play or not?

1/26 GDT: Devils 1 at Red Wings 3

Ya. I didn't word that too well. I figured someone would jump on it. I was trying to say that Datsyuk achieves his results more from dangling while Flip dangles a little but he mostly seems to rely on speed and getting body position on an opponent to get his results. And I agree that nobody can be compared to Datsyuk. That was my initial point.

What? That I think Datsyuk is more of a dangler than Flip? No. I'm not joking. And yes, I think Flip is skilled enough to be dominant in a different way than Datsyuk, which is why I don't really like the comparison.

    Party Like It's NHL '94

That was cool. Used to play that till the sun came up. Lucky Luc was amazing. He couldn't be stopped. Neither could Roenick.

I just don't like the comparison. I personally never saw Flip as a Datsyuk clone. I saw him with his own skill set. I just never saw Datsyuk's game in it. Flips game is more power and speed. Datsyuk is just a pure dangler. Flip could easily be as dominant as Datsyuk if he just shot the puck more.

Having Datsyuk-like ambitions doesn't make you a Datsyuk-like player. Just sayin.

I don't agree at all. Flip still turns the puck over/loses the puck/becomes nullified way more than Datsyuk in those situations.

Yes you are. He's good but he isn't nowhere near Datsyuk good imo. Datsyuk has a unique skill set. Flip doesn't. I think Flip can be dominant when he wants to, but you overshot the compliment by comparing him to Datsyuk imo.
