This is spot on. No way goalies can ever be "fair game". Not only that, the game would be almost unwatchable if goalies were afraid to come out of the crease to make a save. Technically, if a goalie comes out to cut the angle and makes a save, he's fair game. After all... he has possession of the puck. You think the line is blurry now? It would be 10X as blurry if the goalies were ever fair game. Furthermore... hammer the starter, then hammer the back up. What then? Start throwing D-men in goal? Dress 3 goalies in case? Nah. The rule is fine the way it is. The refs are the only problem. Goalies aren't mobile enough to sidestep a check.

Well, judging your assessment of Franzen's "all-round" game, I wouldn't be too quick to compare hockey knowledge...

Do you know anything about hockey? I'm serious. I've read your posts and I'm not sure if you are really as clueless as you appear or if its just some kind of act. Because if its not an act you should probably just not say anything anymore. Ever... Based on salaries around the league, Franzen is easily in the 5 million range. He has size, soft hands around the net, isn't afraid of high traffic areas, has excellent hand/eye, is above average as a screen in front of goalies, is almost impossible to move, plays a strong defensive game and back-checks hard, can take draws and is an above average passer. I can think of half a dozen players in the league, off the top of my head, that don't have NEARLY as much skill and make MORE. Please get a clue...

This move tells me one thing. The Sharks still know that they probably can't beat the Wings in a seven game series. This is a desperate move from a scared franchise. Should make for an interesting series... assuming San Jose can clear the first round.

First of all... Osgood sucked. To imply otherwise is epic fail. Was he the reason they lost? No. But he still looked awful and confused. The same way he has looked for a majority of the season. The Wings needed a world class goalie that night. Osgood was barely AAA. Second of all... who cares? All the Wings have to do is MAKE the playoffs. First place means very little, especially to the Wings who have shown that they are actually stronger on the road. The loss means NOTHING in the big picture. They've beaten the Wings before and everybody lived.

Who starts a sentence with "Duh" aside from a twelve year old? Lol... how lame. This game means a lot more to the Sharks than the Wings. I expect a much larger sense of urgency within the Sharks group. 5-4, Sharks win in a shootout.

Summer 2010: Use Lidstrom's cap space to sign Luongo?
Broken 16 replied to Reilly's topic in General
I would really hate to see the Wings spend that much coin on a goaltender. Seems silly to pay so much for a goalie thats only going to face 25 shots a night on average. Plus... some goalies just aren't a good fit in Detroit. I'm not real sure wether or not Luongo needs a lot of rubber thrown at him in order to find his groove... but if he is that kind of goalie, he won't fit well here. Detroit needs goalies that understand that they are going to probably be leaning on the crossbar for most regular season games. I'm not convinced that Luongo has the mental fortitude to be a Wings goalie. But what do I know? -

Zetterberg denies report of rejecting 10yr, $75 million deal.
Broken 16 replied to rage's topic in General
Its amazing how much clarity comes when you care more about the Red Wings than any individual player... sound familiar? You should follow your own advice. Zetterberg is a product of the Red Wings. The Wings are NOT a product of Zetterberg. No one piece is more imporatant than the whole. Look how many great players have come and go since the early 90's. I'm not saying that the Wings wouldn't be stung if Zetterberg packed, but they would recover. They always do. -

Short of Datsyuk and Lidstrom, I really don't care who walks. That includes Z and Hossa. They can all go to 'greener pastures' for all I care. The Wings have proven time and time again that their scouting, drafting and player development standards are second to none. The only unique talents on this team, in my opinion, are Lidstrom and Datsyuk. The rest can be replaced, including Zetterberg. -

My God... please don't give this man a 10 year contract. I'm not dumping on Z. I think he is an outstanding player, but the more I watch this season unfold, the more it seems like Z depended on Datsyuk a little more than I originally thought. This is not to say that Z isn't a great player. But it looks more and more as if Z needs Datsyuk alot more than Datsyuk needs Z. -

Ya... that ones a little out there. I know. No doubt. I like what Chelios brings to the team in terms of experience and leadership though. Dudes a warrrior.

Chelios was dirty, granted. I see a lot more intent to injure from Pronger though.

I gotta go with Hungry Howies... [/threadjack]

Don't forget the 'oh so' pleasent memories... like the time he took a Lidstrom slap shot to the chest. Granted, he could have died... but he didn't. So its all good.

Kopecky falls down too much Hossa is better than I thought Osgood looks lost (not so lost lately) Conklin reminds me of Osgood with more skill (no offense to Osgood... just an opinion) Datsyuk makes professional hockey players look like complete idiots... and I like it Cleary annoys me for some reason (reminds me of LaPointe) McCarty needs to go away once and for all I like Lilja Bears repeating... I like Lilja Franzen has more skill than Homer... but I don't think Franzen will ever be as good as Homer at screening the goalie and getting garbage goals Babcock is an amazing coach Maltby and Draper are obviously winding down (Drapes still owns in the faceoff circle though) If Datsyuk continues to dominate like he has (and gain national attention), I fear Zetterberg may become a head case Chelios is dangerously close to overstaying his welcome Still waiting for a string of open ice hits from Little Nicky I hate VS. and their overrated poster boy I still miss Federov... and Larionov... and Kozlov... and Fetisov... and especially Vladdy
