I could have swore I read that somewhere over on the 20 threads that spawned after the announcement on HF. What I read implied that Lidstrom needed to select two forwards as assistants and Staal needed to select a forward and a D because each side needs 2 forwards and a D with letters. If I get time later, I'll try and dig up the link.

Right. From a Red Wings fan perspective, this has to be the most interesting ASG ever. Especially since there are no other Wings participating. He can pick the best team without snubbing anyone. Can't wait to see who he selects for his assistants.
-
Crosby better knock it off. If he keeps complimenting Wings players, people around here might actually start liking him.
-
So if Crosby participates, and Lidstrom picks him first... does that mean that nobody is allowed to hate Crosby anymore on LGW?
-
I think you are overgeneralizing here a little. I think you seriously underestimate the competitiveness of the average NHL superstar. I don't care if you are Gordie Howe or some hack in a beer league. Not getting picked can sting. And the last guy picked is gonna be a little embarrassed. If any format has the potential for chippy play, this is it imo.

Eager always seemed like a good character guy to me. This can only help San Jose since they have none. No offense whoever that Sharks fan is that sometimes lurks here.
-
Good for Crosby. I hope more players follow his lead.

Being picked to play on Lidstrom's team will be a bigger honor than being at the ASG... I feel bad for Staal. He has to pick against a genius.
-
Ya... that's pretty bad. I'm no comic book aficionado but I know enough to know that is really weak. It's like someone drew a dude and then shoehorned wings and wheels on him. It's hideous.

THN: Zetterberg should be disciplined for skipping ASG
Broken 16 replied to edicius's topic in General
Didn't realize he was a Hockey News writer... that rag is one step away from covering the vampire baby from Mars. At first I thought he was a complete moron. But it's worse. He writes for the Hockey News. He probably took a break between paragraphs to dig lint out of his bellybutton. -
Yup. I remember when the 'Human Pylon' came to Detroit. He was one of the original 'too old' guys to come to Detroit and make a big impact.

I got between the pipes in my beer league once... once...

Well, I laughed my ass off when I saw the amount Toronto spent on him. I will say that.

I always liked Lebda. There were stretches where he played solid hockey for the Wings. It was no secret that he had a limited skill set. I still contend (irrational as it may be) that he can find a role somewhere, somehow based on his speed. But he better hurry, his speed won't set him apart forever. I was kinda pullin for him to find a niche in Toronto but that obviously isn't happening. Heh. Anyway... I don't hate you Lebs.

So sick of seeing these stupid dogpiles after clean hits. It's ridiculous.

Winning games 5-4 right now is actually a positive imo. They aren't going to be able to fully put the defensive game together until some more crucial components come back. Winning games in this fashion is nothing more than honing of talent until the troops get back. As long as Babcock can keep Lidstrom's TOI to a respectable level and keep the kids skating, we'll be fine.

Draper proving how loyalty can pay dividends. Great game.
-
Look at the bright side... we get to watch some serious, high energy hockey for a bit. Once the injuries are over, they can get back to dismantling teams puck possession style. In the meantime, enjoy all the bodies flying around and embrace the reckless abandon the kids will bring. That's my position anyway.

Holland Trying to Bring Larsson in as Howard's Backup?
Broken 16 replied to VM1138's topic in General
Lol... really? Our playoff hopes lie with a semi-washed up back-up? Bummer. As far as your second comment, Larsson has confidence and, apparently, something to prove. Give me that guy every time over the complacent old guy that accomplished everything already. Pretty sure Holland has zero time or desire to get involved in petty pissing matches between goalies. Lol. -
My first thought when reading the thread title was: "Hmmmm... probably means the Caps will be a better playoff team"
-
Cool. Now I know where to stash my eggs and tomatoes.
-
What's the big deal? Put a cast on him and put him in front of the net.
-
Good game last night, s***ty ending. Zetterberg needs to be removed from the shoot-out rotation or at least bumped down the pecking order about 5 places. He's terrible. He telegraphs EVERYTHING he is gonna do and in the unlikely miracle that the goalie can't tell what he is doing before he even picks up the puck, he misses the net. Everyone has one weakness at least and Zetterberg's is the shoot-out. Get him the f*** off the list please...

This is no different than playing nickel poker. God the NHL is stupid sometimes.
