The point is, fans of teams that have never won a Cup (or at least haven't won one in a long time) think the trophy is a big deal. We thought it was in 96, but it wasn't. Home ice in the NHL is severely overrated.

Ya? And how has that panned out for President Trophy winners in the past twenty years? Since 1990, only five out of 21 teams have won both the Cup and that trophy. Odd math if you somehow see that as making a team "more likely to win".

The more time the Canucks have to sit around and listen to the fans and Canadian media talk about how great they are, the better for the Wings (or Sharks). I hope they soak it ALL up.

It's the only thing people have to cling to when they have nothing else. It will never go away as long as the Wings have any player older than 35. They were saying that s*** because of Chelios one season and he was our 7th man.

The only thing I heard anyone really saying the team needed recently was heart and determination. And they will continue to need it until the very end. I know you said this wasn't an 'I told you so' post, but I'm still not sure to what you are referring. I honestly don't remember very many (if any) outside the normal 'glass is half empty' crowd that was calling for any changes based on skill and talent.

It just seems like that because you are ultra-sensitive about how other fans perceive him for some reason. There has actually been more of a 'wait and see' attitude regarding him from what I've read over the course of the season and aside from a few small flashes, we're still waiting.

Ok... so Marleau is gutless because Pavel Datsyuk burned him and Thornton is a great leader? K.

The only thing more annoying than bandwagon fans are the fans that go out of their way to call them out and whine about them.

The one night a year I let my mom gab into my ear for as long as she wants and it's during that comeback. :/ Can't say enough about Datsyuk and Lidstrom and the guts of the Wings in general. Hoping to be eating some major crow soon because I thought this series would be long over by now. I don't really see the point in dressing Franzen unless he heals up big time. Modano may not bring the same skill set that Franzen has but at least his skills are running at a higher percentage... I assume. Oh... and the Thornton dive was spectacular. Another so-called 'leader' that is just another mush-ball.

I'm not against trading either of those guys by any means. Just not for those two clowns. Besides, I don't put much stock into tiny little stat packages when comparing players. You can extrapolate any stat into whatever you want. It's fun, but not realistic.

So trade away 2 proven playoff performers for two soft mush balls? No thanks.

This is a pretty ignorant post... First off, of course we thought we were gonna have a great team this season and do well in the regular season... and we did. Most of us remember last season and knew that if we faced the Sharks, we could very well lose again... we are. IF we lose this series, and there really hasn't been any indication that they won't. Especially considering everyone is to the point of wishing for a lucky bounce. If you are depending on lucky bounces in order to beat your opponent, you aren't good enough... they aren't. Of course they could turn it around, but if they don't start imposing their will with a little more zest, they wont. IF they lose to the Sharks (again), personnel will have to change. You can't just keep repeating the same things over and over hoping for a better outcome. That's insanity, right? If the Sharks sweep, and their isn't some kind of personnel change beyond bringing up GR guys, then it will be another short playoff run again next season imo. If the Sharks sweep, there are only about 3-4 totally untouchable guys imo.

I think people underestimate the influence that Leino had. The team isn't the same since he left.

It's not all black and white either. All teams have guys that dive but only a chosen few teams have perfected it. You gotta know just when to grab your face and just when to quiver your lip. Tears never hurt.
