You're still here so apparently depth envy is in full swing.
-
I don't buy jerseys but my sister bought herself a Hossa jersey and she still wears it with pride. It's not like he was never a Wing. If I were one to buy jerseys of other players, I'd definitely pick up the Modano jersey. The guy was the face of a Stanley Cup winning franchise, one of the greatest American born players to ever lace them up and now he is home to help his hometown team win another Cup. Seems like a jersey worth owning.

Just to expound a little on why I'm still loving this offseason more than any other: 1) Modano signed and sounds excited to be here. 2) All of our role players are back. 3) Chelios (even though I hate him) is back. 4) Cleary sounds pumped and ready for the season to start. 5) Happy is back. 6) Everyone is rested. No more fatigue excuses. 7) Yzerman bolted and took on the Tampa Bay Lightning. (some may view this as a negative, but I view it as another team to follow) 8) Our fourth line is now going to be EXTREMELY annoying. 9) Datsyuk and Zetterberg will start the season together and it won't cost us depth at center! 10) We now have two legit PP units 11) Our PK from last season is in tact. (Well, at least as long as Miller is still around) 12) We added a quality face-off guy (Modano). If Holland can manage to land Mitchell, that will be #13.

Wow... that's so deep... I figured '02 might edge this season out. It's hard to deny adding all that firepower in one off season. The cap is what makes this off season so much more interesting to me. The aftershocks of the cap are starting to hit some teams and the Wings are doing a good job managing it.
-
It's gonna be a great season.
-
Wish I was handy enough to change the word "earth" to "glory".

I don't understand why people would want the Wings to sign a sixth Dman. Janik has already proven that he can hang with the team and do well. Why not bounce Janik, Meech and Kindl in and out of the lineup until the deadline? Seems like it would be much better for the team if they gave some of the youngsters some experience and see how it's going at the deadline. Maybe we can use the money to swing some deals and get some picks. It's not like a bottom defense pairing is gonna make or break our season. Unless we get wrecked by injuries again... then god help us.

Makes you wonder whether they truly don't recognize the hideousness or truly don't care.
-
That's hideous. Please tell me that's a joke.
-
Seven seems reasonable.
-
Seriously... If I hear the word "core" just one more time... I'm gonna lose it...
-
This is total homerism but I don't care. With every signing, this team feels more and more like a ginormous juggernaut just waiting to be unleashed. Can't wait for the season to start.
-
Plus... in my real list, the Hawks would be lucky to be 4th.
-
Note the "in no particular order" disclaimer. I don't expect Dallas to make it, but it would be cool given the circumstances with Modano and Turco.

9+9=18

I can follow that line of reasoning. I guess I am judging Ericsson a little harshly on last season. Hopefully next season he will be able to get back on a good development path. Be nice if the Wings can get off to a good start and maybe Babcock can play the youngsters with Lids a little before the playoffs start. I still wouldn't mind seeing Holland put that money towards dealing for some picks at the deadline.
-
Lol... Babcock is the best.
-
I started a thread on this subject, but I guess it just boils down to me wanting more picks and having a little more freedom at the trade deadline just in case.
-
Never thought of a steadying presence for Ericsson. It would be nice to have a nasty, seasoned vet in that circumstance. To be honest though, I'm not convinced that Ericsson is ever going to be able to make that full transition into a legitimate NHL Dman. I'd almost like to see what Janik/Kindl could do with some early season ice time.
-
K. But what is the rush? Don't you think Janik at least deserves a shot after how he came in and played last season?
-
I'd rather see Janik get his shot. He earned it last season. He's an unsung hero from last season. He came in, made very few mistakes and helped the Wings tremendously last season. If I were Holland, I would dress Janik as my sixth and see what he can do with a starting position. Save the money for the deadline.

Not to mention that not many players in the league know Turco better than Modano. Next season is gonna be amazing. The divisional battles are gonna be awesome throughout. I'd like to see these teams make it in the West next season. In no particular order: 1. Wings 2. Hawks 3. Stars (be some wicked drama if Modano, Turco and the Stars were in the playoff mix) 4. Kings 5. Nucks 6. Sharks 7. Flames 8. Yotes (is that team still intact? If so I'd like to see them earn another shot)

Maybe the guy Kenny has in mind for the bottom pair isn't available yet and this is just a time killer? Or not. Either way, pretty cool when the only thing we have to gripe about is the bottom pair and lack of a fighter. I'll take that 'problem' every season.
-
This. Not to mention that this combined with Hudler coming back is going to give us two legitimate powerplay lines. Wings offense could be absolutely SICK this coming season.
-
Me either. But he is quoted as saying something about a "big announcement" on Thursday.
