Our penalty kill is fine. What's wrong with having another guy if Modano doesn't sign here is that we don't need Modano in the first place. Abby will probably get the shaft. It's bad enough shafting him for Modano.

Technically, he said "there are the only team". Remember, it was very early in free agency when he said that. Now that money has been spent and teams are settling down, expect Modano to get more offers. Not that I could imagine him not wanting to join his hometown team to try and win one for Probie. That would be cool.

Ya, but I give Franzen the title because of the injury. I'm not sure if TSN took that onto account, but I do. Plus, I'm giving him bonus points because he has been a steady playoff performer.

My definition of earned pretty much covers coming back from a very difficult injury just before the Olympics, getting himself into good enough game shape to rack up points in the playoffs and have a major impact. Not to mention taking over a game and exploding. Guy is playoff money. I wouldn't argue Datsyuk and Zetterberg over him, but the rest you listed are just silly.

Except Yzerman didn't get shafted. Modano doesn't owe them any loyalty. He fulfilled his contract and the team decided to part ways.

This. In my mind, Modano would be a fool not to sign here for whatever Detroit offers him. Unless some foolish team throws a 3 mill contract at him, then see ya. I could think of worse things than playing for the Red Wings in the twilight of your career for a million bucks. Hopefully he was wise with his money. And personally, I'd be REALLY excited to see him in a Wings sweater. 40 or not. My only fear is that he will suck and bear the wrath of LGW'ers for years to come.
