Another thing people are failing to mention is that the Wings coming out and being the first to offer him a contract even though the whole league knows we don't need a center is the ultimate in class by our organization. This is why players want to play here. Modano has been a pretty good warrior in this league for a long time and kudos to the Wings for recognizing that and not allowing him to go out like that.

I don't even consider Detroit to be the team to beat at this point. It's way too early for that kind of prediction... which is exactly why Vancouver being proclaimed by anybody to be the team to beat is just stupid (which by default kinda makes anyone defending the notion a little questionable). And I think Luongo sucks. Whats the problem?

Alot of us here believe that Luongo is a sieve and has a s***ty attitude. That's why we don't fear your team. And considering that he has never really done anything to prove otherwise, I guess you're just gonna have to deal with it.

Lol at Hawk fans that think that they can round out 50% of their roster with NHL and AHL jobbers and still be considered an elite team. You guys are in for a rude awakening. You are going to have every other team throwing the kitchen sink at your team EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. It's going to be an endless assault for the entire season. 99% of Hawk fans weren't even born the last time they won a Cup so they have no clue what their team is up against next season. The best part is Kopecky. We were relieved when he wasn't playing. When Kopecky goes down next season with an injury, and he will... there will be a hole in the second line as well. Lol. Then again... maybe every plugger they insert will magically ascend into perfect role players for the Hawks... good luck with that.

Sorry, but you don't just 'plug' holes that Versteeg, Ladd and Buff left with just anybody. Just because there are new bodies in place doesn't mean it's a push to who they replaced. If they can ship Campbell... maybe I will consider them dangerous again and that depends on who they pick up. Head to head, as the rosters stand with plugs for Chicago in place, the Wings hand them their lunch. If Chicago has two significant injuries during the season, they will be chasing the pack like we were last season. Except I don't think they will have the chemistry to pull it out like we did. Nor the goaltending. I'd be pretty nervous if I were a s***hawks fan.

After gloating for the last 24 hours, I am actually starting to feel genuinely bad for the Hawks. I've never seen an upheaval like this in hockey before. The s***tiest part is that they won't be able to defend the Cup as a team and the new guys coming in are gonna have to carry that burden for the entire season. Kinda f***ed.

Right. Like I said I want to agree for basically all the reasons you stated. But at 1 mill, it's too tempting to see what he would do. If was able to give 80% consistently on the third line, we could have, potentially the most potent third line in the entire NHL. Sick if our lineup is healthy. Absolutely RIDICULOUS powerplay. Is he a righty? I wouldn't mind a weak bottom two for a season. Of course this all hinges on Mike Modano and how driven he is. I can't imagine he would be any less than 100% driven on a one year stint with the Wings, in front of his family in his hometown. If that doesn't inspire them to win, nothing will, imo.

Ordinarily I would agree... but I think Modano would be different. Clear cut case where intangiables outweigh the numbers. His motivation would be huge. Especially because he wants to stay in the Western Conference. Holland would be a fool to turn him down at 1 mill imo. That skill set for 1 mill... total bargain on every level. Bag picking up a defenseman for a season. Holland has already implied that we don't really need one THAT bad.
