I don't know... maybe I got lost along the way or something... In terms of raw salary though, I'd be hesitant to pay him much over 6. Despite the fact that his name is Lidstrom, age is a factor in my mind. There has been a decline and there really isn't any indication that it won't continue. Every year he ages, his chance for injury increases. Granted... it's probably a millionth of a percent for Lids, but still. And what ever happened to the elbow? Did he ever get surgery on that? Because his booming shot from the point was almost non-existent last season. That could be a factor. Could Lidstrom bend the Wings over and demand a 'market value' contract? Of course. Doesn't mean he should, in my opinion. If he did, he would go from godlike to superhuman in my book. I'm pretty sure he could live with that.

Right. And all I'm saying is that if he is gonna demand 6-7, then I wouldn't mind letting him walk. No biggie. No s*** Sherlock. We all know what he is worth. I'm not the one listing stupid examples of other salaries to prove a point. Salaries handed out by other GM's for other teams. God forbid someone out there actually overpaid for a need. All I'm saying is that if he demands 6-7, money is a little more important to Nick than another Cup. Fine. Whatever. And yes, it will tarnish him a little in my eyes. Not my problem that he succeeded Yzerman, one of the best ever, as captain. Sorry he has such big shoes to fill.

I haven't seen one person call him a selfish, greedy jerk. Stop trying to stir the pot. Everyone that is expecting Lidstrom to sign for substantially less are basing it off rumors that he would come back if he thought the team could win a Cup. Which implies that he wants to win another Cup. If that is true, then taking a 6-7+ contract won't help the cause. Stop trying to turn this into an anti-Lidstrom thing for your own amusement. Just because some of us would be disappointed in him a little doesn't mean anyone thinks he is a selfish, greedy jerk.

Wrong. You want to say that Lidstrom is better than Pronger, be my guest. But to say that he is clearly better is just flat out wrong. Right now, I would take Pronger over Lidstrom on a one year deal for next season, in a heartbeat. Just because other players are overpaid, doesn't mean everyone should be overpaid. Alot of the salaries people are referencing are from contracts that were written before the full pinch of the cap was felt. Look at Rafalski. The market is still a little weird. It doesn't say you are right.

This isn't really up to Holland. Lidstrom is in the drivers seat and if he demands 6+, then he isn't really all that interested in another Cup. That's all I'm saying. And there has been a decline in play. And there is no reason to believe the decline won't continue. We can dicker all day long about what he deserves and in the end, we would probably be close. But based on what I've heard, he would come back for another chance at a Cup. If that's what he truly wants, signing for 6+ won't really go very far in helping his cause. Demanding 6+ will show, to me anyway, that he comes back more for money than for a chance to win another Cup. And, yes, that will tarnish him a bit in my eyes.

If he asks for 7 million, then he doesn't really care about a Cup. Just sayin'. He knows full well what this team needs and if he isn't willing to sacrifice some of his salary to help fill that need, then why bother? That's all I'm saying. Of course he is worth it. But giving him a huge salary just for the sake of watching him play another season would be a drag.

I'd rather he just retire unless he signs for 5 mil. Seriously. The guy is great but I really don't want to watch another year with the same team+Hudler-Williams... with Lidstrom a year older. He's looking human now, what's he gonna look like by the end of next season? I'll be pissed if he makes 6+. And I will lose a little respect for him.

So if Lidstrom offers to play for less, Holland will refuse? What a stupid thing to insinuate.

Like above. Hossa was a one shot and came here specifically to win a Cup. The fact that he underperformed (for whatever reason) won't exactly endear him to fans. Cleary has been battling for the Wings for a long time. Hossa was like an expensive hooker that sucked in bed.

Lidstrom's. By a mile. Yzerman, as great as he was, was replaceable. Lidstrom, not so much. More sad with Lids because I know the team is gonna be worse off than it was when Yzerman left. In terms of hardware, Lids. Obviously. Steve was a great leader and a warrior, but he had his flaws. Lidstrom was almost flawless in his prime. No. Yzerman was a great captain with a lot of heart and an amazing skill set. He deserved every bit of spotlight he's ever recieved, imo. In the end though, it's hard to make an accurate analysis until the repercussions of Lidstrom's retirement are felt.

Homer was our best offensive player for a little patch. His contribution early in the season helped us get very, very valuable points. And he will always be a major pest. And he is the best at what he does. You don't just let a player like that walk onto another team if you can help it. Get a clue.

He's in a holding pattern. Crossing his fingers and praying that Chicago forgets that they faced him a bunch of times this season. Or did they? He could have been benched I suppose.

God, I hope so. Could you imagine? Our luck Williams would kick ass for Stevie... in which case I would thank god he isn't Finnish.

Ted Lindsay. I was about 7 and he was dating the lady next door. I had dinner with him. I wore his shoes. I remember he wasn't very patient with children.

If Steve Yzerman signs Jason Williams for next season, the Lightning should just put Stevie out of his misery and fire him.

Hmmmmmm... So how long should we wait before putting the unfair expectation of being Lidstrom's heir apparent on him. I'm game.

Yzerman would a bad GM if he didn't target any Wings. I doubt he wants to start his career on the wrong foot.
