Its times like these when I look up and thank the heavens you don't run the Red Wings.
-
Just because Shanny was the last piece, doesn't mean he was the most important. He was a great addition, no doubt, but he should never have his jersey hung in the rafters.
-
I fail to see how facing Philly next round would be considered 'easy'. You may as well have said that Washington would walk through Montreal... oh wait, everyone did. I have a feeling Philly would upset Pitt.
-
Sorta true about Nicko... but he was able to pull off double bass sound with a single bass drum and single pedal. And was a pretty good leap forward from Clive Burr. But yea... more replaceable than the legends.

Nice list. I was on the fence between Keith Moon and John Bonham. Both were incredible. Moon with his frenetic fills and Bonham with thunderstrike sound. I like that you included Copeland. HIGHLY underrated because he was in a band with Sting, imo. Great drummer. Topper... meh... great drummer, just was never a huge Clash fan. Nicko McBrain gets my sentimental vote.

I think it would be safer to think of the KHL stint as a year long practice. I doubt he gained any more than he would have gained with the Wings except maybe a little confidence.

I thought the announcers were fine. In fact, it seemed like they were actually in awe of the Wings on a few occasions. On Rafalski's goal, one em said "That's what they do... that's what they do"... as if to imply that the Wings can score at will. I thought they were very respectful to both teams.

To be honest, I don't think our opinions on the subject are much different. I just allow myself to get exasperated with the topic after the umptienth time.

You can't put Shanahan and Fedorov in the same sentence in terms of what they brought to the team. People that weren't fans of the team when Fedorov arrived tend to vastly underestimate the impact he had on this franchise.
-
Why would you wish failure on Yzerman? I hope he gets the job. He deserves his chance to run a team and Tampa would be a great fit for everyone involved. I be very interested to see what he could do with Tampa. Plus it gives me another team to root for.

Keith Moon > Neil Peart, imo. Neil is almost perfect in a technical sense and his timing is nearly perfect but Keith Moon's ability to improvise and fill every single nook and cranny with ridiculous fills made him a freak. Cool link.

You must have been watching a different Steve Moore... and Bert didn't want him to go... Crawford did. What is Bert supposed to do? Ignore his coach? Is there a rule about how many times a player will need to drop his gloves in order to defend himself? If the crime is severe enough, it could bleed into future games, let alone future periods. Moore knew what he was doing and he knew he had Naslund prone. Didn't slow him down, did it? Do something like that and face the consequences, even if it happens to be multiple fights. No sense in skating around the rink like a weasel, avoiding confrontation. Man up and take your medicine. In my opinion, the league was better off without Moore. Moore's career ending probably saved a few careers in the long run.

This is a slippery slope, but... I'd consider giving Fedorov the honor as well. He was the prototype of what Bowman wanted every player to be. It could be argued that Yzerman didn't achieve his legendary status until he was basically forced to become another Fedorov type player. But the signing of Fedorov, with the defection and all, is a HUGE milestone in Red Wing lore. Nick became the prototypical Wings defensmen and Fedorov became the prototypical Wings forward. This team wouldn't look the way it looks today without those two players, imo. Contract squabbles in the twilight of his career shouldn't detract from that. Fedorov deserves his jersey up WAAAAAAAAAAY before Shanahan.

I have a feeling Lidstrom's elbow is still bothering him some nights. I think its hit or miss at this point. If you watch him night in and night out, you notice that sometimes he is able to let it go with no problem, and other nights he's much more tentative about shooting. I'm becoming more and more convinced that he is just gonna retire at the end of the season. That comment about Flip erasing all the good he did in the first round is dumb. He played a solid game last night aside from that high stick. Not sure why you are piling on Cleary... sure he isn't scoring like expected, but he scored a clutch goal last night (Wings needed that goal BADLY) and has been putting forth the effort. Other than that... decent read.

Not exactly a bold prediction considering he is currently riding the pine. Welcome back Huds... wish we could put him in right now.
-
Meh... Three fluky goals. A 5 on 3 goal. And the Sharks were still hanging by a thread. Wings looked great aside from that Twilight Zone moment.

Moore is a coward. It's unfortunate that he broke his neck... but he could have avoided it completely if he wasn't afraid to defend his gutless actions and take a couple punches. He could have turtled and avoided the whole thing. Instead he chose to repeatedly turn his back and refuse to back up his actions. Note to future hockey players... If you are going to headhunt the leagues leading scorer and opposing teams best player, be prepared to fight. Duh.

Kenny just said that they bumped a Metallica show in Russia to accomodate people being home to watch the Wings game. That's awesome!!!
-
This. If his team hadn't bailed his sorry ass out, that push would have cost them the game.
-
Don't get me started...
-
Speaking of toning it down... how's about we let the moderators moderate...
-
I'm freakin out. I haven't been this excited for a game in a long time. Thank God it starts at 9.
-
The guys scores a powerplay goal after riding pine for god knows how long... and all the sudden he is better than Rafalski. Lol, this thread is rich.

Makes no sense whatsoever.

Osgood played on a team with Lidstrom for his entire career. Howard won't. That will be the difference, imo.
