You can continue your 'babe in the woods' routine if you want but anyone with half a brain can read between the lines of your posts and pick up the passive aggression. Where did I ever say he should be fired? I'll help you... I didn't. But to give Babcock a free pass is just silly. Is he the ONLY reason the Wings are sucking? Of course not. Is he partly to blame? Yep. Sorry. Nobody is perfect bro. To assume that Babcock will just cruise through his career without having to take a long, hard look at himself in the mirror from time to time is pretty naive. No offense.

If the team is playing poorly, it's ultimately Babcock's responsibility to turn it around. That's EXACTLY what he get's paid to do. Find a way to bring the best out of his players. Injuries are not an excuse. Just means he has to work harder to find players and lines that compliment eachother. Worse teams with less talented players have better records right now. That's Babcock's problem. If nobody is ever to blame for anything, then I guess the team is perfect the way it is...

One could argue that it's Babcock's responsibility to motivate Datsyuk and Lidstrom. Lidstrom may very well be on a fast decline. I prefer to believe that he is storing up for a huge playoff explosion... unfortunately we probably won't get there unless he starts warming up. I cut Lidstrom a lot more slack than Datsyuk because of his age. I believe Datsyuk's issue(s) fall squarely in his realm though. It's his job to motivate him properly, imo.

But he really didn't do that much overall. Don't get me wrong... I was PRAYING that Lindros would somehow find his way into a Wings sweater when he was on the move. But, in retrospect, I'm glad it never happened. Once the concussions took their toll, he wasn't nearly the same player he was. Sure, there were flashes here and there. Bottom line is, he carried his team to being swept in the Stanley Cup Finals and was basically never heard from again. Not exactly HOF material in my opinion. I'm not gonna get into a Forsberg/Lindros debate because I'm pretty sure you had no intention of creating a Forsberg vs. Lindros thread. But comparing Forsbergs overall career and accomplishments to Lindros' is no comparison at all.

I don't think they should hand out HOF nominations like candy. He was dominant for a blip. Never won a Cup. Was swept in the Finals against a team that he was supposed to punish into the ground. The guy had ZERO longevity. Had off-ice issues with his father as his agent. Forsberg made a bigger overall impact on the league. Lindros was scary for a few years. Handing out nominations for what could have/should have been isn't what the HOF is about.

They've been in a meat grinder for over 15 years... This team is tired and depleted from injury. They've played more hockey than any other team in the past decade. I almost hope they DON'T make the playoffs just so they can get a good rest for next seasons re-tool. f*** the record...

So what separates teams once full parody is achieved? Coaching and upper management. It shouldn't be a shock that the Wings are still competitive. Success goes much deeper than the names on the roster.

May got more than a couple real good licks in. Against a real tough kid. That was awesome. May has already earned his paycheck in my book. Spending time with the younger players is worth the salary alone.
