Maybe if McCarty grew an afro.

I never said that Cujo was to blame for anything. Quite the opposite, in fact. I blame the Wings for the way they handled the situation. Actually, I'm hesitant to place 'blame' on anyone without all the subtle details but I was happier than s*** when we got Cujo. Overall, I agree that Cujo was more solid a goaltender than Vernon. Just not what the Wings were looking for, I guess. Still hate that he got sent down to make room for Hasek. Still pisses me off to this day for some reason.
-
Ya... I always felt the Wings handled that thing with Cujo and Hasek very badly. And Cujo was a class act through it all, no doubt. One thing I never fully understood... why the Wings, who some might say are loyal to a flaw, would treat Cujo that way. The only thing I can think is that they saw or heard something about Cujo that they didn't like and never went public with it. I always found that whole thing pretty mind boggling. I know the lure of having Hasek on your team can be pretty strong, but...
-
You don't know that. Yes, Cujo made the saves he was supposed to make for the most part, but having Hasek, Vernon or Osgood would have dramatically changed things. For whatever reason, it was pretty obvious that the rest of the team wasn't 100% comfortable with Cujo in net. Despite what they may have said in post-games. Something made Cujo a bad fit for the Wings. We may never know what that 'something' was... but you can't just glaze it over with stats and say that Cujo was awesome and deserves a spot ahead of Vernon in Red Wings history. It's not that easy. You of all people should know that.
-
Two can play that game: You clearly place Cujo above Vernon in terms of Red Wings lore based solely on stats. This is where we will continue to clash. Cujo was basically a bust for the Wings. An instance where stats DO NOT tell the story. <gasp!> Stat wise, Cujo was a very good goalie over the course of his career. On the Wings, for whatever reason, there was a lack of cohesiveness with the rest of the squad that was painfully obvious to even the untrained eye. The Wings need a certain type of goalie with a certain type of mindset. Vernon was that kind of guy. Osgood is that type of guy. Even Hasek was able to pull it off. Ranford? No. Cujo? No. So, in terms of Red Wings lore and legend.... Cujo sucked. Sorry.
-
Wrong. It was a thread about the Best Red Wing Line. Not the best goalie. Don't twist the past to suit you now. You said that Vernon was a below average goalie and you rated Cujo above Vernon in terms of "RED WINGS HISTOREEEEEEEEEEEE!"... Which is ludicrous at best.

I'm glad the Hudler will be gone for sure this season. I'm really anxious to see what this roster can do for a season. Having said that... I'd be happy if he came back the following season or the season after. Especially if the KHL has a positive influence over him. Good luck Happy. Come back to us big, strong and mean.

No... my sole answer has always been that he mentored Ozzie, backstopped the Wings to a Cup AND won the Conn Smythe. Not to mention fought and beat Patrick Roy in a fight at center ice. None of these things can be described using numbers so you choose to ignore them. Whatever.
-
How many Cups did Gare win with the Wings? Oh yea... zero. Nice analogy.
-
Vernon mentored Ozzie. Ozzie is a great goalie and has cited Vernon many, many times as his inspiration and his teacher. Those aren't gut feelings and Osgood is still around. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure I remember Osgood mentioning Vernon in this last playoff run (might have been in 2008) as a source of inspiration. Looks like the decade old memories helped Osgood get his game in shape. Crazy, eh? But you are right. Vernon was nothing more than a blip on Osgood's radar. Lol.
-
No way. Every time you open your trap to talk about what a s***ty goalie Vernon was, I'm going to point out how important he was to the short and long term success of this franchise. Get used to it.
-
Like I said before... please step away from the stats sheet.
-
Exaggeration... A first time offender wouldn't see a lick of jail time over an incident like that. No way in hell. Is Kane getting special treatment for being a celebrity? Yes. But to imply that everyone else on the planet would get a one way ticket to jail is just plain false. Kane is gonna pay eventually. He is going to be taunted and berated in every opposing arena. Maybe for the rest of his career. Kane's pain hasn't really begun yet.
-
That pretty much sums it up...
-
You've never seen Yzerman give it to the refs in the face-off circle? He's a legend for telling the refs to "f*** off" in the face-off circle. Yzerman talked A LOT of s*** throughout his career. And he was good enough to back it up.

The only way Chelios makes it onto my team is with a whistle around his neck.
-
You're pretty quick to judge someone you don't even know. You have no idea of the details of Hudler's relationship with anybody. Are you basing your judgment on that one article that was translated into near jibberish? Hehe.
-
Maybe so... but he's not a criminal like Kane.
-
The two acts aren't even in the same ballpark. Why would you lose respect for a young, rich SINGLE dude throwing around money? Maybe Hudler doesn't want a relationship with anybody. What's he supposed to do? Play the skin flute till he's ready to commit? Comparing that to slapping around a cabbie over $0.20 is like comparing daisies to battleships. Kane is a moron. Hudler is just a rich dude having fun.

My mom doesn't have a basement. I don't have to make up BS about McCarty. It's been well documented what a loser he is. If you think the only people that McCarty hurt was his family... get a clue.
-
He made more than enough for his family to be comfortable for a long, long time. Unfortunately for him, strung out, alcoholic, meth heads with gambling problems rarely make smart moves with their money. On the ice McCarty was a great hockey player and a Hockeytown hero. Off the ice he's a loser. No sympathy.
-
Stacy Roest... nice one.
-
What's with the Datsyuk hate? Edit: Nevermind... that's a tough list to crack.
-
In my opinion, Osgood is my first choice, Sawchuck is my second choice, Vernon is my third choice, Hasek is my fourth choice and Cujo is like... 10th... maybe. With Essensa a close 11th.
-
Sorry I pointed out that rating Cujo above Vernon in terms of Red Wings history is dumb. He was probably the first Red Wing goalie to win a Cup in your lifetime. But you're right... Cujo had better stats. I got it now.
