This is a good point. What's to stop other teams from injuring their player. Forcing them to retire, only to bring them back a decade later in the twilight of their career. Someone... slash Datsyuk in the ankles now! We might need him in 2018!

I totally get what you are saying and for the most part I agree. It's just the timing. I just don't think it's a good idea to bring in a high-end prospect while the team is in disarray. I'd much rather him walk in to a winning environment. Unless he is truly capable of stepping in and having a positive impact immediately, why burden him with it? Much better to be getting ice time in GR imo. Having said that, once the team is back on track, I'd love to see him swap time with Kindl.

Well... you can only assume that his absence on the big club during the injury stretch means that he isn't tearing it up in GR. I have no data to back that, but that's my initial reaction. Be cool to see him get a shot though. I'd love to see Smith too but I don't know about bringing him up at the moment. Seems too soon still. I'd rather see him play when the team is a little more stable.

Are you really trying to sell Hudler as second line center? Really? Holy crap. Franzen/Hudler/Bert? You're mad. First off, Bert has improved his defensive game, but he's still a retro-fit. No offense Bert. Franzen is NOT a 'defense first' forward. Yes, he's defensively capable when he wants to be, but not enough to carry a line. That leaves Hudler with the most defensive responsibility on the second line and center to boot. God help us. Unless you figure that they are gonna score so many goals that it won't matter, in which case I would like to point out that you've put arguably the three most streaky Wings on the same line. Lol.

I was wondering the same thing. They've exceeded my expectations so far. Battling all season long for top spot in the West? Yes please. I'm mildly concerned about the goalie situation but all we need is for Howard to be hot come playoffs. But that goes for every other team in the NHL too. If goaltending ends up becoming our Achilles' heal then so be it. Almost every team has one, and the Wings can still win in spite of it, imo. I'm not worried about the D either. The D has underachieved almost every regular season for the past three seasons. They always dial it in for the playoffs. I'm optimistic for Kindl. I feel like he's gonna grow leaps and bounds during Stuart's absence and that can only help the team.
