    John Tortorella

In Tort's deffense... I don't have the exact stat, but Gaborik was something like 2 for 17 in shootouts. He was also slated to be the 4th shooter. Personally, I'd still fire him. The Rangers need to go through a major shakeup, but as noted, they have some salary issues and bad contracts. I think they need to make some trades and start over. I'd keep Lundqvist and Gaborik, anyone else is fair game.

Pick an upset and defend it

I agree completely about Nashville. Other potential upsets I see are with LA and Colorado. We all know that San Jose is vulnerable in the playoffs, and towards the end of the season I didn't see any major push or spark. They have yet to prove that they want it badly enough. Colorado, when playing their best, can score timely goals and control the pace of games. Vancouver can be shaky at times and I think LA matches up decently against them. Quick would have to be huge, and their best players would really have to score a lot of goals, but I think its possible. If I had to choose one, I'd have to agree with the OP, Nashville has what it takes to beat Chicago. In the past few weeks, the excitement in Chicago wore off a little due to them slumping for a while, the hilarious Teows mural, and losing to the Wings. They have some people injured/questionable, and their goaltending has been worse recently than any other time in the season.

    Anyone else missing McCarty?

Too many guys who I miss. I love the team now, but the team of my youth can never be replaced. D-Mac was my favorite player growing up, and he scored one of, if not THE, greatest goals of all time against Philly. I miss the D-Mac of old, he played with heart and grit up until the end, I'm really glad that he seemed to salvage his career and was able to finish up in Detroit. I hope his post-hockey career continues to go well, I enjoy seeing him on Versus.

I have a ball python named The Mule. I wouldn't mind a piebald as well! The Yotes are excited and thats a good thing, but what a sorry attempt at tradition.

Who scores wings first playoff goal?

    I say Helm as well.

    How about Danny Cleary?

I'm glad that Babs was forced to break up the 4th line of Draper Helm Eaves, even though they were consistent. Adding Cleary to that line has really made them a threat to score goals. In the playoffs, having a solid 3rd line is really important, I'm glad he's been doing well with these guys. Additionally, our 4th line has a myriad of options, many of which are favorable for a 4th line. I'm pretty happy with our lineup right now.

    Wings fan in Chicago

I know the Avenue Tavern in Lakeview has been a Wings place in the past. If I recall, the owner is a diehard Detroit fan, but I ALSO recall that they didn't have Center Ice package and were showing the Versus or NBC games. I always hear about Tin Lizzie but haven't ever been. The Gin Mill is another place that is friendly to Wings fans and shows games I believe. Someone else probably knows better than I.

    Capitals May Use Goalie Rotation

I doubt we would see a rotation through-out. Sounds like what a lot of teams do, including the Wings a few years ago, you play the hot goalie and stick with him, if he stops being hot, try the other goalie. Usually if the starting goalie (in this case Theodore, I presume) isn't playing lights out in the first round, they'll switch. Nothing out of the ordinary here, not sure why coach is making a spectacle of it.

Senators' playoff future takes a hit

Yeah I never really thought of Kovalev as big part of that team's "future".

Ovenchicken the real first to 50

This thread has nothing to do with that. It was created to acknowledge that Ovechkin got 50 goals. Way to hijack another one.

    Black Aces announced

Nice to see Mursak get called up. I know he probably won't see any ice, but is this a good indication that we might see him in the lineup next year?

    Crosbys first 50 goal season

Lol at Carman. You make it seem like Crosby presented his 50th goal to Guerin out of the genuine kindness in his heart, as though he has such infinite power in this league that he can decide who the goal goes to. More like.... Guerin CLEARLY scored the goal, and the NHL reviews this and got it correct. Give me a break. Also, why don't you compare the +/- of Sid and Ovi? Just saying.

    Octopus!

Just make sure you throw it at the right point and time. Don't throw it at another opposing player, and don't throw it at a time where it disrupts the flow of the game. Perhaps someone else who is more familiar can elaborate on the etiquette.

Is anyone else pulling hard for the Blue Shirts?

Can't stand the Flyers unless they're playing the Pens. I always liked the Rangers, good Original 6 team with a good history, despite their management/laziness problems. Definitely want to see them squeak into the playoffs, though I doubt they go past round 1.

    Colorado Avalanche

It was a great rivalry while it lasted. It wasn't a traditional rivalry born out of teams with regional proximity or decades of historic game. It was a rivalry born out of the two teams matching up so well against each other and battling hard every time they faced one another. I miss it, but its gone. I agree with OP and others in that I find myself pulling for the Aves. I'd love for them to get back into their old ways and become a powerhouse force in the league. Denver is a great place for hockey with lots of passionate fans, glad to see them doing well this year.
