No question. I've always said that if I could have ONE 'Wings wish' it would be to see Sawchuck, after maybe 6 months of learning the butterfly and the ins and outs of todays game, play in TODAY's NHL. I'm pretty sure he would still dominate! While I kinda wish this record was preserved in Terry's name, good for Brodeur, he earned it.

Lol this makes me smile. The last time I checked on Sammy's stats, it was about 5 games into the season and he was on pace for like 50 goals or something.
-
I'm not sure about 'disaster', but it's a valid point. The thing is though, his expectations were low coming into the season, then his role was increased due to injury, and soon it will decrease due to injured players returning. This will lead to more cold streaks and 'Bert is lazy and he sucks' threads, subsequently creating more threads like THIS one when he starts scoring again. The fact is, he stepped up when our team desperately needed people to step up. If he cools down when we have a healthier roster, meh, I remain unconcerned. Bert is a 20 goal scorer. If he gets more, that's great, and hes on pace. He has plenty of weaknesses, sure, but his upside is there, and like Drake said, at that price, he's almost already paid for himself.... I can think of three recent games off the top of my head where he had the game winner or shootout winner.

I know a lot of folks were quick to jump on Bert earlier this season, but I thought he has played well throughout the season. The difference is shots started going in, things started to click. I'm glad hes been scoring recently, but I expect some hot/cold streaks throughout the season. I was happy when we signed him cause we needed goals, he has been right about on schedule for my expectations.

Nice! That could be interesting.

Players certainly have disappointed this season, but when you look at the reasons behind this, its not terribly surprising. Kovalchuk is a great player, and he'd be great as a win, but this has been discussed before, and to me the answer is still NO. No need to trade away our depth and our future for a 'quick fix' type of deal.

All of the jousting between fans is a natural and fun part of the rivalry process. If we are all friendly and chummy with every Hawks fan I don't see how it becomes a 'worthy rival'. Nothing wrong with the banter, as long as it stays somewhat relevant/appropriate.

To suggest that players even actually listen to Cherry and take his words to heart is a laughable assertion.

Which Goalie Should Start for Russia in the Olympics?
hooon replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I'd go with Bryz but I wouldn't be surprised if Nabakov starts. -
Yup. Loving eaves. Can't wait til he starts finding the back of the net now and then as well.

There were a few so far. I think there is one coming up, against the Jackets maybe.

Lol I noticed that it didn't have his real name anywhere on the card. I like seeing behind the scenes stuff.

Bettman confirms wanting two winter classics next year
hooon replied to CenterIce's topic in General
Eh... I knew the Winter Classic wouldn't be special forever, but this is a pretty quick way to make it less appealing. The phrase 'too much a good thing' comes to mind. The year after it will be 4 games, so on and so forth, soon theyre gonna be playing roller hockey in downtown LA. I'm just glad the Wings got involved in the coolest year, by far. Two original 6 teams at one of the most historic outdoor venues in the country. It will never be as cool as that. This year's Winter Classic is far less exciting than last year, not just because the Wings aren't in it... but the whole ball park thing has already been done, the rivalry isn't as intense, the teams aren't as good, etc. I can't help but think the Winter Classic will run its course. -
Could Some Westen Teams Who Make The Playoffs = Advantage Wings?
hooon replied to rage's topic in General
Phoenix will not make the playoffs. This is just like last year, they were high up in the conference for the first half of the year and then they dropped off. (Chicago also had a major dropoff halfway through last year, they were neck and neck with the wings and sharks for the first half of the season... just sayin.) -
HAHAHA lol. I can't believe that is the best they could do... and yet... its perfect.

But how else are we going to get support to expand the NHL to include European teams!?
-
I definitely thought it would be worse. Great news. The only thing that SLIGHTLY worries me is that all of these players are going to be returning at once, is this going to cause an adjustment period where they get back into playing form? Lets hope not!

How is Newbury? Anyone excited to see him? I know nothing about him.
-
I like Kovalchuk but there is no way this would ever, ever happen. It would defy the logic that has gotten this organization to where it is, we work extremely hard to build players and systems and we dont just give it away for one star player. The only way I see him coming here is in a Hossa type free agency deal. Even that is unlikely. He will never get to free agency.

Nashville is only a rivalry with us in the sense that they play in the same sport as we do. Otherwise, it gets no deeper than that.

I'm glad the wings didn't retaliate. The refs were calling anything and most of the time that the Ducks ran the net, they got called for it... why start a scrap and negate the penalty. Didn't Abdelkader and Perry kind of fight (I know it wasnt goalie related)? And may tried to get at Parros after he ran the net. I'm not sure why at this point in time its surprising to any of you that the Wings don't really fight. I'm glad they don't take the stupid penalties that the Ducks do.

I think there is 2-4 teams too many... but unless there is a reasonable SOLUTION presented its hard to argue against the current format.

Who? Sorry, I can't answer, but I the last I heard the trainers didn't have a timeframe for his return. We definately could use him in the lineup, but then again, we could use ANYONE with a pulse in our lineup.
