Ugh.... i HATE that the hawks are playing so well... they shouldnt be this good. On paper they ARENT this good... yet somehow they are playing this good. Hopefully hossa's return ruins their chemistry.... i can dream can't i?

he didnt 'blow' two breakaways, he was simply stopped on two breakaways. I also seem to remember two times where Helm DID score on two breakaways, one of which was in the playoffs. Don't take the blame out on Helm, when our ENTIRE team was unable to score against The Panthers. Also, give their team some credit, their goalie played great and their defense stymied us. Of course I would like Helm to have scored more goals this season, but with the exception of Holmstrom and Maltby, this holds true for ALL wings players and an overall lack of scoring production. Great to see Z finally scoring like he should tho.

I only noticed those two words.

Murphy never admitted they blew the call. All he did was dance around the point and vaguely suggest that the rules that are in place are at fault for a 'missed opportunity' to get the call right. I was watching NHLive during his whole phone interview, and his argument reached absurdity when he suggested that this would lead to video review on hooking and offsides, etc. Completely dodging the issue and admitting absolutely no accountability on their part shows the utter cowardice that exists within the highest tiers of the league. It saddens me. Here's what gets me: The ref on the ice, after the review, his words were "There is no goal on the play because the whistle was blown". We all know that this is an outright lie. They later stated, well after the game, that this was an 'intent to blow' case, which was a blatant excuse of an afterthought. Also, I believe it was Bettman who defended Larue by saying, 'he intended to blow the whistle when he lost sight of the puck'.... later saying, 'he lost sight of the puck, because it was hidden behind the pad of Auld, IN THE GOAL'... Their own logic provides all of the necessary evidence here. Handled poorly at the time, we all know this. But again, handled even more poorly with their lack of admission or responsibility. They DID however suggest that this is a rule that they will look like, but you know what... that doesn't change the fact that teams have to suffer NOW due to the despicable incompetence of those in charge.

its impossible to talk about a trade without knowing who we would hypothetically get in return.

Hey, thanks a ton for the Oct 25th game, I appreciate it! Was at the game so never got to see many replays. You are doing a great service man, especially with the streaming gamese of the past two years, and now some archived ones. Seriously, you do great work.

This was my thought exactly. Seems like pretty simple technology. Small chip in puck. Censors in ice/posts. That simple. Refs fail immensely.

lol at this fibs guy.... Not to stoop to the level of basic name calling but... you are the stupidest person ever to post on these boards. Are you seriously not understanding this? I find it hard to believe that you aren't aware of how much you are embarrassing yourself every time you post. Sorry. Just saying.

Yes! October 25th 2008 please! If you do go through the trouble to do all of this, thanks!

wtf... there are other forums besides general discussion!?

No way they retire 14, and i don't think they should. The jerseys in the rafters for the Wings are ONLY the most elite players, and we can expect to see number 5 up there one day. As someone pointed out in another thread a while back, there are a tonnn of great wings players who added tons to the team, but if you start retiring the number for guys like shanny, you would have to do the same for holmstrom, maltby, draper, murphy, etc. I like that it is a very exclusive group up there.

I agree that i always thought this would be unlikely. I assumed they would go for Toews and Kane, and a few months ago i would have thought Toews and Kieth for sure, but Kane has lit it up in the playoffs and has played well so far. I'm still not so sure this happens. Even if they do sign all of three players, they will STILL be screwed. They are going to lose all of their depth players, which is what I think makes Chicago a dangerous team, not just the young scorers. They will become a team like Tampa, a team with one GREAT line, but absolutely nothing else. I'm still under the assumption that Kane is vastly overrated in the league (even though I might retract that soon, as he is playing a heck of a lot better this season), and would personally opt to keep Toews and Keith and let Kane go.

Great game, and I'm lucky to have the entire game on DVD. If you guys don't have it already, buy the Red Wings hockeytown boxset (i forget what its really called) but it has the videos for the first three modern cups, plus i think 6 or 8 full games from 97, 98 and 02. Great moment in sports/hockey/wings history!

While i dont love the point system now, I really have not heard one suggestion that is BETTER than the current format. I'm all for extending OT to ten minutes and the shootout to 5 shooters. Some of these suggestions here (no offense folks) were just absurd. The system cannot be too confusing or it simply wouldnt work. I do know this: When the wings ARENT playing, and I'm watching some 2 random teams play, I always get excited when it goes to the shootout. I know its not real hockey and not team hockey, etc. But it IS exciting to watch.
-
I also wouldn't mind seeing Maltby get some more time. Remember when he was our leading scorer!? I hadnt heard that new news about Lilja, but I reeaaaallly would love to have him back. Imagine if we got him and Franzen back at the same time around playoffs. The lines are finally meshing, and Babs seems to be finally sticking with them. Howard has been good, but I'm still not sold on him. For some reason he always seems like he's way out of the net and lets rebounds just sit in front of him forever. He's getting the wins though and that's what counts, I like that he's getting all these starts and warming to the task.

I go to nearly every game when the wings are in town, and I must say the fans are getting worse and worse towards us. There will be plenty of wings fans there (including myself) so you wont be completely alone. I nearly got beatup last year after that Hossa shootout, but to be honest, I might have been running my mouth a bit. Otherwise, its pretty much common sense, if you guys are respectful you'll get the same treatment. What kinda seats do you have? 200 section, 300? As much as i cannot stand their fans, it is a cool place to see hockey and can be pretty loud. Lots of restaurants and bars to go, soo many to choose from. Otherwise, Chicago is a great city, lots to do.
-
Wait... to the OP Are you suggesting that teams actually TRY to be tied at the end of the game because they have good shootout shooters?? So teams will purposely try NOT to win the game in regulation or overtime, due to the chance that they are better in the shootout one night? I'd like a clearer explanation of this theory please....
-
I hate to say it but the game the other night and the game last year.... we just got thoroughly outplayed by them. But yeah, it pisses me off too... Wouldn't the wings be on a 7 game win streak if we had won that? Grrrr useless frustrations..
-
Cool! Glad your boy got to see his favorite player score, I remember my first hockey game was a hartford whalers game, great experience to remember. A good game to see too, well done wings fans!

ok am i the only person too stupid to get that password to work in the link? What am i doing wrong?
-
meech no but really... Thats an interesting question. Firstly, I do not think Lidstrom will retire after this season (hope not). Otherwise i think Rafalski might get consideration, though i would be against it. Otherwise it'd be Z.

I really thought he was just trying to jump past the player and get position with the free hand, but the player held his ground which resulted in clearly kinda beaming him with the forearm. It was a pretty heated game at that point, and my guess is Clearly sort of put a little extra into it, resulting in the elbow. Bad penalty to take. Not suspendable, imo.

Rewatching the Wings CBJ game now, and Eaves basically caused the third goal by laying a thundering hit on one of the CBJ players, keeping the puck in the zone, creating a turnover, taking a player out of the play. He has been impressive so far, much better than i expected. I love to be proven wrong about things like this.
