There is a fine line between unrealistic expectations and optimism. As others pointed out, I'd be surprised if there is a wings fan out there who isn't disapointed in the season so far.

lol watching the hawks game now. Kopecky just delivered comedy gold. I wish there was a clip of it but basically he just had a semi breakaway, and when he tried to stick handle, he tripped (over nothing) got no shot off, and slid headfirst into the goalies feet. Foley's announcing for it was hilarious as well "KOPECKY! DRIVING TO THE NET! AAAAaaannd....... he.... loses.... the handle of it."

Sorry dude... hitting posts is not 'unlucky' as you say. It means he missed the net, really no different than missing completely. He's close, but not close enough. I dunno why but I always get bothered when people claim that hitting the post is unlucky. It means that the shots werent aimed properly, not that some mystical force determined that puck would come close, but not close enough. I think things will turn around for Bert, and i think hes been working hard.

Do you even watch the games? Bert hasnt found the net too much, but he works his ass of out there. We also signed him at a great price. What could we POSSIBLY get for him in return? Also, no, he should not be in jail for his 'thuggery'. I don't condone what he did, (there are a number of threads on this already) but he has more than paid for it, and he's also a really humble and friendly guy off the ice. I sure hope others AREN'T with you on this.

Ask eddie olcyck what he thinks. I usually like weekes on NHLnetwork, he seems like a pretty intelligent guy, but this comment (true or not, and i dont believe it is) is just a stupid thing to say on NHLnet.

This is soo sadly true. I live in Chicago and go to the games occasionally and they all think Kopecky is another Hossa just because he came from the wings. BTW... the absolute dumbest fanbase in the world has to be Hawks fans.

While i don't think their goaltending is QUITE as bad as some wings fans like to imply, it sure isnt all that pretty either. What gets me though is the complete mismanagement of that team. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure one year ago the hawks tried to place Khabibulin on waivers after inking huet to that absurd contract. I also think that when the trade deadline and end of the season approaches, the upcoming free agency problems will start to effect how they play as a team.

any player in the world could have done that. Obviously a smart play to make, but as an nhl player you are required to do it. otherwise he did nothing special at all. No different than any other blocked shot which happens 20 times a game. Just happened closer to the net in this instance. He laid down before the puck was even released, did not move to make the save, the puck simply hit him on a poorly placed and rushed shot. I remain unimpressed.

wtf is with the spongebob one? Also, ozzie's helmet is waaaay more hilarious than i ever realized. That thing is disgusting. When i played hockey there was a big bucket at the rink with old repugnant helmets in it, in case someone forgot theirs or something. Looks like oz got his from that bucket. Does anyone know how long ozzie has had that particular mask?

I understand its not crosby's fault for the publicity... but seriously that is one of the most unimpressive highlights ive ever seen. A completely routine play that happens weekly in the NHL, and can be done by any player. He didnt even move to make a save, he just lied down BEFORE the shot was taken, and the puck happened to hit him. I understand some posters frustration with much of the overblown crosby hate, but this is a little ridiculous. If they are going to devote the site to crosby for a play he did, at least do it for a play that is special in some way (he has many highlight plays). Also, to the pens fans: I'm not sure why you are calling for all of us to rationalize our dislike for crosby. He is an opponent of our team, we have had two heated series against him the past two years, etc. I would think its pretty obvious why people dont like him, along with the compendium of reasons noted by others. Yes some of the posts in this thread indicate some jealousy or irrational hatred towards him, but you seem to forget that this is a forum for the detroit red wings. I'm tired of the resident pens fans always getting so offfended and affronted when someone mentions they dislike crosby, cracks a crosby joke, etc. There are pens forums where this doesnt take place. It might behoove you to look into them.

Two good games is hardly enough to convince me that his woes of earlier this season and ALL of last season are gone. I dont see how this thread is any different than ozzie panic threads. Also, i dont think anyone realistically thought ozzie would get traded, and not many people were even posting that. i believe the majority of the 'panic' people wanted to trade for a reliable backup to ozzie, which I still believe the wings should look into, but alas, they probably wont. Great to see ozzie get some good games behind him, and lets hope he keeps it up.

definately datsyukian, that got reeeaaal old and ken said it after every time datsyuk touched the puck. Eddie Olcyck bugs the crap out of me. Not only does he AAAALLLLLWAAAYS say 'active stick' but every time he says it he follows it up with a speech for 'young' hockey players. "all you young hockey players out there, look at the active stick of (insert name)" every single time. Also when he says things like "the detroit red wings are the best team at interference in the league" no matter what the play is, when he is calling wings games he obsesses over whining about interference.

carman its so easy for you to jump on people for having a biased view against crosby, and yet your views on ovechkin are just as ridiculously biased. Because of your admiration for Crosby, it seems you find it inexplicably easy to bash many parts of ovechkins game, including aspects outside of his control (such as captaincy and linemates) as if he is the coach, gm, and owner of the caps as well. Its also kind of tactless to start out saying "i'm not gonna start another ovi/crosby debate but..." and then rant on about why crosby is better. Hope ovi gets better, he is a lot of fun to watch.

While i think the wings will be ok, the thing that worries me is chicago. They have some key injuries as well, and when they get some players back, particularly hossa, they will be tough to beat. Everyone is so quick to jump on their bad goaltending and shakey defense, but i think (not 100% sure) that they have the second lowest goals against in the west and also a very low shots against. If their D and goaltending stays about where it is, they will be tough to beat, as much as i hate to say it.
