I think this is a huge step in the right direction. Shanny has always been straight forward and honest, whereas Campbell was mysterious, inconsistent, unprofessional, and untrustworthy. Should have stepped down after the whole email fiasco. Just hope Shanny brings back some consistency and clarification to the disciplinary process which would help to restore a level of trust with the fans.

Not trying to be aggressive, but the OP mentioned signing him for 3 years at 2.25. Another poster in this thread said to lock him up for 5 years. These statements just baffle me. Ericsson hasn't done a single thing IMO to deserve anywhere near that kind of money or term. Don't we already have enough players on our team that are "due for a breakout season"? Sometimes it just doesn't happen, and I believe that money could be put to far better use.

Over 2 million? People suggesting 3 to 5 year contracts? Have you guys even watched a moment of this guy's career? He has regressed every season since coming to the NHL and people want to give him a raise AND lock him up long term? I am all for letting him walk, call me a hater or whatever the LGW term of the day is, but Ericsson has done absolutely nothing to warrant a sure spot on the roster. He doesn't use his size, doesn't use his shot, is bad defensively and offensively, and is good for at least one monumental breakdown a game that results in a goal against. The only positive thing anyone can say about him is his "potential", which is a completely meaningless word if you don't actually LIVE UP TO THAT POTENTIAL, which Ericsson has never, ever shown even the faintest signs of doing since the 08 playoffs. Honestly why does ANYONE here like this guy still? For the price the OP is suggesting we could afford TWO equally bad Dman for the same price. The most I would accept is 1 or 2 years at about 1.4 per. I'd rather he walk though. Let the Leafs overpay him.

No offense, but I don't want to boycott away games... I want to watch them and see them! I live in Chicago and the only chance I get to see the Wings is when they come through here (so I guess I am one of those fans that is holding back the move... sorry!) I still want them in the East though. I like the suggestion of hitting Facebook and Twitter. I don't really do much social networking or whatever, but it seems in this day and age people are impressed by how many "followers" or "friends" one has, and if you get enough Red Wings fans, people might take notice. One other thought I had was about how other Western Conference teams' fans feel about the move. A lot of teams fans hate playing the Wings, so maybe other West Coast fans will want us as far away as possible. I know the management of those teams wants us to stay, but if we can get the support of other fans it wouldn't hurt our cause. But like others have said, at the end of the day I think the NHL will do what the NHL wants to do, and will do what they deem is best for them, not what's best for the Wings. Just the way it goes.

You can use the same argument the other way: The Nucks struggled and needed 7 to get past Chicago, who was an 8th seeded team that barely made the playoffs.

It is a general hockey discussion forum so I don't see why its completely irrelevant. Congrats man, glad you got to see your team win. Game 7 sounds like it would have been cool to watch. Do you still live in Louisiana? How did you watch the game? I don't get many minor league games on TV.

Don't a lot of Canadians hate American teams? (btw, I don't hate Canada teams, but I'm rooting Bruins)

Your LOLzing someone else in the very same thread where you suggested Hudler, Flip, Kindl, 1st rounder for Semin and Green? Honestly, not trying to be a jerk here, but that is seriously one of the dumbest trade proposals I've ever read. I honestly thought it was a joke at first until you kept explaining it. Btw, Green is absolutely their number 1 dman. Just because he was injured for half the season does not change his importance to that team.

I hope to god that Holland doesn't choose his players based on fan-made YouTube reels, sheesh. Zherdev has been known as one of the laziest players in the league for a long time, which is why no team has ever wanted to keep him around. There are literally hundreds of players on YouTube who have highlight videos, it is by no means an indication of their overall game or what they would bring to a team. Please, please, no.

VAN/BOS: 4-2

Go Boston. Really not sure how these teams will match up.
-
Yeah, he absolutely stood on his head. But pretty much everything you could ask for in a game 7. Great game. Congrats to the Bruins, I'll be rooting them on in the cup. Congrats to the Lightning and their great season, they seem to have a very good future ahead of them. No penalties the whole game, right?

Boston opens the scoring. What a play!
-
Still anyone's series. I really enjoy this matchup.
-
Great pace to this one. Both teams came to play.

He isn't saying WE shouldn't consider Talbot. All he is saying is that HE wouldn't want to root for Talbot.

I kind of like those old yellow Kings jerseys. That mustard colored "Snaggletooth" Preds 3rd jersey is just hideous. Seriously who approves these? And thanks for sharing, that was pretty funny.

Jeez Tatar played 9 games with the Wings this season? That is way more than I seem to recall. Our injuries be damned! I remember being happy with his play even though he didn't play many minutes. He had a few good chances offensively, and I'm sure he'll bury more goals once he settles down a bit. I just want him to bulk up some more, he looked pretty small out there.

Lidstrom: 2009-10, 82 games played; 2010-11, 82 games played. Rafalski: 2009-10, 78 games played; 2010-11, 63 games played. Rafalski was torn to shreds. I know there are more important things than Hockey, especially for an aging family man who has won it all, but it just doesn't make much sense to end a career when you are perfectly healthy and still putting up award winning numbers. I think Raffi retiring makes the decision that much easier for Nick... keep playing!

And yet we outscored the Sharks in the regular season, and were the 2nd highest team in the league in scoring. Who cares what SJ has? What does that have to do with the Wings? Its always nice to have more scoring on the team, but honestly in a year like this our number 1 priority is defense.
-
Misleading title. Nothing in that article that hasn't been said by Holland a million times. I recall Holland stating Smith will not be "given" a spot at any point. He will compete and try to earn it like anyone else. Sounds like a decision that will be made in camp.

Jesus why is Campbell's name even anywhere remotely near this discussion right now?

great presser. Thanks Raf for your years of service to our beloved team! Sorry I was a bit rough on you at times, but you had a great career and will certainly be missed. -
