They should have a salary cap.
-
All I said was that he has only played one full season in the NHL. While its a skewed comparison in terms of skill, his situation could be reminiscent of Ericsson's, who was very highly touted a year ago after a great stint at the NHL level, but is now somewhat of a question mark. Not saying he'll falter, but you never know. My point was that 1.5 seasons of good play isn't enough to warrent 3.5 million in salary, but hey, anything that makes their situaiton more complicated is good in my book, but if I'm them I'd rather keep Sharp over Hjalmarsson.
-
So if they keep Hjallmer they could be even more screwed than before? Awesome. I don't believe there is a sinlge team on earth or in hell that would take on Campbell's contract. If they have to deal Sharp to keep Hjalmarsson, I will simply laugh. Nick H is a really good player and all, but he's had ONE good season in the NHL, and is still far from proven. I guess they really want to keep him, but I still think its an overpayment. What a terrible situation to be in if you're the Hawks, because either way its a lose/lose.

This. Dunno why everyone is so worried about having too many forwards. Holland has already said they would move people if need be. They will go to camp and compete for their jobs, the best players will get a spot. Whomever we don't need will get traded off... which means we get something in return for their services, rather than just letting them walk.

If Lebda hadn't just left, I'd assume it was his fault.
-
lol. Someone's gotta photoshop a pinnochio nose on Stan.
-
Talk about hoisting the cup(s).
-
oo I didn't even think of this. I've been playing street hockey when I can. Watching NHL Network, World Cup... This is the time of the summer where sports get REEEAAALLY thin. Lets see we have... the ESPN Spelling Bee coming up... the Little League World Series.... NFL Pre-Season.... hmm
-
Maybe I'm just more easily shocked than you ... but if Lebda even came near 40 points (playing for the MAPLE LEAFS), I would be beyond shocked. LGW doesn't even offer an emoticon that properly shows how shocked I would be.
-
Lol at that comparison. I know you didn't write the original quote about the 40 points but WOW that person does not know a single thing about hockey. Lebda has never even gotten 40 points over any TWO seasons in the NHL. Keep dreaming. If he hits 40 points next season I will build you a cathedral.

getFlaf for zetter! getrdone

Lol saw these too. The clear attempt where he passed it blindly to the other team. So glad hes gone.
-
wow He was a 4th overall pick in 03 which was a stacked draft class. Jackets chose him over the likes of Vanek, Phaneuf, Suter, Weber, Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Zack Parise, Getzlaf, Perry... to name a few. Strange how things work out.
-
This is true. Last year or the year before there was some talk around here of him coming to the Wings. Fun to think about, but he really is a waste of talent. Tons of skill that shows itself in flashes, but no work ethic. He is still young though, never know if he'll start working. 2m isn't bad though.

Apparently you didn't read a single thing I posted, or rather you chose to ignore every point I made. I did mention the cup, btw. However, we are now talking about their FUTURE. The Cup happened, they gambled and won... that was last season... and now... they are completely screwed. I don't think its homer glasses at all... how can you not see this as well? How many players have they lost this off season? How many more will they lose? I don't understand this blind assumption that stockpiling draft picks gaurentees a good team in the future. Explain to me exactly what Bowman "did" that was so commendable so far? Who are these periphery players you speak of? So they're going to fill two whole lines and a two D pairings with people who will sign for league minimum?
-
Thanks for posting, that was amazing.
-
I could maybe agree if they had been able to retain even ONE of Hjalmarsson, Ladd, Versteeg, Byfuglien... who else am I forgeting? They won the cup, and that counts for a hell of a lot, and no one can take that away, but still, I don't see how Stan Bowman has done anything remarkable. All of the picks they've aquired are not a result of great management, they were aquired in spite of bad management. Having draft picks is nowhere near the same thing as having a cup-winning roster. I'd like to see the actual numbers, but how many picks/prospects actually pan out at the NHL level? I also think its reasonable to believe that a good majority of those picks/prospects will eventually be traded again in the next several years when the Hawks finally have some cap and need to get some actual players, instead of the 1 year scrub contracts they will likely have next season.
-
LMAO. Is this sarcasm? First of all, the Bowmans didn't "go for broke" and sign a million players, that was the all-knowing Dale Tallon, the Bowman's simply inheretid that mess after the deed was done. In what way are they doing a good job at all? They've already lost about every single player that could. They only reason they are getting picks is because they literally do not have any other financial option but to dismantle their entire team... I love the Bowmans but... a used band-aid could be doing what they are doing right now...
-
No because Kane and Teows are still on the team. Those are the only players they've heard of anyway.
-
Ah thanks. I have a feeling Huet could be their starter next season... Or possibly their backup again with Crawford on the ice.
-
Can someone explain to me how this works? I keep hearing people talk about "burying" his contract in the KHL or the Minors, but I still don't see how they won't be on the hook for some of that cap hit regardless? I'm just confused at how this works, anyone care to clear it up for me?
-
A lot of the speculation on how much they have to spend falls under the assumption that they will make Huet's contract magically disappear.
-
Lol I love it. Now if this Niemi arbitration thing plays out, they will have literally lost everyone, plus Buff and Versteeg. Things are looking grim in Chicago... Anyone else care to start another debate on them being completely fine next season?
-
They need to make this into a TV show.
-
Umm... how is it a kick in the face to Dallas? THEY were the ones who said they didn't want him back. It was a kick in the face to Modano.
