Best case scenario happened for the wings. Sweden and Russia eliminated early. A little bit of rest for our main guys.

That's what I thought too. They would never put an actual ad there and block the view of people who pay high price for lower level tickets.

Based on Salary Cap numbers for when we have our full lineup back, Miller is clearly the go-to guy. He's been looking a lot more comfortable with the added ice time he's been getting. Leino would make a great deadline pick up, for perhaps a defenseman (see you Lebda)

Did anyone else hear the ozzy chants after his last save????? I swear it was ozzy.

Art Ross: Ovechkin Richard: Patrick Marleau Hart: Ovechkin Pearson: Ovechkin Calder: Howard (if we get into playoffs and we make a run) Vezina: Miller Selke: Darren Helm (I don't know who to put.. this is obviously a joke) Byng: Lidstrom Norris: Lidstrom Adams: Joe Sacco

I was at the Marlies/Grifs game last night and Tatar looked great - fun to watch. I'm looking forward to next year and I hope he can impress the staff in training camp. No reason to bury this kid in the AHL.. his maturity level is a lot higher than most rookies due to his experience in the elite league. Going to be exciting in the world juniors though.
-
Can't win if you don't score. Jimmy played well and gave them a chance. This is simply on the onus of the forwards. Not much more to say about it really

After watching WJC last year I knew this kid was a steal for the wings in the draft. He has remarkable offensive ability and I couldn't imagine what he would be like with a skilled player like Pavel or Henrik. It would be insane to watch out there. Hopefully he plays well next year at camp, which will make a few players expendable and Holland could have some room to play with. I just feel like we have too many of the same types of players with the Drapers, Maltby's, Abdelkader's.. sure they each have their own style and bring different things but their overall game is too similar.

Mentioned on tonights broadcast, but with Dipietro coming off of IR, the Islanders will be looking to trade Biron given their goaltending depth. If they are asking the right price, this could certainly light a fire under Ozzy and perhaps give us a short term solution (i.e. 1 year) in net. What are everyone's thoughts?
-
I know we have a lot more problems to fix than goaltending, but heard some interesting talk come up on Biron ... he will be available via trade as soon as Dipietro comes off IR. For what its worth, he is a better goalie that what we've seen so far from ozzy and jimmy. Wouldn't mind getting him if the price was right. Some of these goals being let in are just deflating to the team.

I just can't wrap my mind around dishing money out to these grinders (if you will) when last season we fully found out that our defence was the area of concern. I know that we lost a lot of fire power with Hossa, Sammy, and Huds gone, but some of the boys in GR could have easily stepped in. Even with those losses we would still have strong lines up front. Now with Lilja on the LTIR, have we really addressed the issue on the backend? Is Osgood and Howard really a desirable combo? Just my opinion.

I was watching the wings rookies on red wings t.v and I was actually impressed with Cayer's skating and size. I know it was from a brief clip but I'm hoping that this was a glimpse for what we will come. Ferraro will be another couple of years yet but He reminds me of a Darren Helm type player.

Just a speculation on this one but Eklund from HockeyBuzz had suggested that Hudler's departure may have made room for Sundin to sign a reduced one year deal. After we trade a d-man we would have around 2.75-3 million for a one year deal. Wouldn't mind seeing him in the winged wheel. Surrounded by play makers I think he could be a key component to this club. Let me know what you guys think. We lost Sammy, may as well add a Swede! lol I doubt he'd sign for 2.75 million but you never know!
-
I'm not 100% with this but a member of the Griffins had spoken with a good friend of mine yesterday and seemed pretty estatic of the opportunity to get a chance to play with Dany Heatley. Ken Holland could have something up his sleeve. Many different combo's that could happen to shed cap space seeing how we would be dumping Hossa. Let's see how it pans out. Again this was from a really good friend of mine so take it for what its worth.
-
I am going to have the biggest smile on my face when Stuart or Kronwall absolutely hammers hossa next year. Hopefully he doesn't get up. Maybe he can ask Havlat how that feels.
-
Report out of TSN that Hawks are close to signing Hossa. Wow. That would certainly close the gap in the Central.
-
Done deal.. 12 years 5.2 million per

Ken holland did win Hockey News GM of the Year. I'm sure the other teams sensed that Detroit wouldn't have the cap space to re-sign hand therefore would have just waited until July 1st. If there was any indication of Hossa re-signing then there would have been offers coming in for Hossa's rights. If you're another GM, you might as well wait an extra day and if you have the money then you offer him a lucrative deal. Nothing against Kenny regarding Hossa.
-
Yeah that would be classic. At least he would feel a lot safer being on the same side as Kronwall. lol

After reading Holland's interview on Mlive it just seems bizzarre that he hasn't spoken with Ritch Winter about a deal. I know we don't have much money to throw at him but we can move some guys to scrounge up a little change. I'm thinking that we need to get a Camalleri type player to add a threat to fill the hole that Hossa and Samuellson will leave. This team will be in such a good position in 3-4 years time. Lidstrom retiring will be a kick to the sack, but with his and Rafalski's salary gone we will be well under the cap to bring in a replacement. Perhaps this will be the time when we invest more than $1.15 in a goalie and can play a more aggressive style. Who knows.
-
Helm had heart though. It was obvious when you watched him winning battles. Hossa had more jump in the regular season. I'm not saying he's not a scoring threat but he is the wrong guy to lock up.
-
I wouldn't sign him. Not just because he wasn't prepared for the playoffs, but because of his character. If we sign him long term he will want out if the team starts going South. He tries when things are going well and folds when their not. Lets save the money and get rid of Hudler and Samuellson and we can go after a solid scoring threat (im thinking someone like Helm but who can bury the rubber) Still can't believe we lost 4 of 5 though.

as much as i'm pissed off at the fact that if we just went 1 for 3 on the road then we would have our 12th cup , I guess I'll post just this one thing. Still rattled about our performance in game 6. I don't know why but our chances just disappear on the road and we cant get it together. Game 7 is going to be so nerve racking but I hope we can get it going!! GO WINGS
-
with exception to the last 7 minutes of play, the wings played like s***. That goal by kennedy was weak. I just don't know what it is with the wings on the road. It is frustrating as s***. Hossa is not worth the pay for next season, even if he takes less. I am speechless really, pretty rattled about this all, considering this series should have ended a while ago. All the wings needed to do was win 1 on the road and this thing should have been ooooooooooooooover. Not too sure about game 7. They need to come out firing.
