I posted this in some other game thread, and I'll try to find it again if anyone's interested, but Winging it in Motown had a nice piece on why Blashill's system hasn't worked, and it basically boils down to we don't have a D corps capable of playing the system Blashill has in place. Babcock knew what he had to work with(a mediocre defense), and kept a more conservative style of play as a result, which was boring, but led to less high-quality scoring chances against. Blashill's system is more aggressive offensively and allows the D to pinch more often, but it leaves us vulnerable to more quality chances against. Why Blashill hasn't adjusted to this not working by now is beyond me, and also our terrible PP any-hoo, still hoping we can somehow eek into the big dance, but I also won't lose too much sleep if we don't

There may be a thread on this somewhere, but recently there was an article from Winging It In Motown about why Blashill's system hasn't worked, and basically it boils down to when Lidstrom retired, Babcock knew his remaining D was largely mediocre, so he altered the system to mask their deficiencies and play very conservatively. Blashill's system relies upon having a smart, quick D that can make those first outlet passes out of their zone to transition to offense. Yeah it really sucks that you need to have 3 different services to be able to watch all the games. I don't have NHL network so I'm out of luck for this one. Seems like sometimes they don't have some Wings games on their schedule, then at the last minute they decide to pick it up and block everyone else out

well, can't blame Howie for this one, was hung out to dry most of the night usually we start slow and finish stronger, but tonight we did just the opposite we look completely discombobulated out there at times yeesh

True, just sometimes wish we had a guy more or less designated to "keep the flies off", as Babs used to say, though those guys are becoming more rare around the league overall
