And then someone asks Babcock about the playoff goaltender. :Jim Mora impersonation:
-
Holland is the same person that waived Osgood, and the same one that sent him down last year... Osgood is great, he's a very good goalie, and one of the best playoff goalies and I'm glad he's been a Wing. But the past two years he has not been a very good regular season goaltender consistently, for whatever the reason. Osgood has played decently so far, but I suppose Babcock wants him to play great(refering to his last "good" game) like he has in the playoffs in order to take over for Howard. I just don't believe Babcock is going to hold back playing what he thinks is the better goalie if that causes him to lose, his job is to win games not start fights with players. Right now he feels that Osgood is not at Jimmy Howards level of play and to be honest not a lot of goalies in the NHL are. Even after Howard's "bad" game, he only let in 3 goals I'm not saying it's a great performance, but I wouldn't say he s*** the bed either. Osgood's career has been full of obstacles, would he really be the same goaltender if everything was just given to him? Life's not fair, he has a right to be frustrated, but that doesn't mean that Babcock's decision right now isn't better for the team. If Osgood posts a shut-out his next start and doesn't get the start after, or Jimmy Howard let's in 5 goals in 15 shots and gets the next start then I'll agree there may be something serious between Osgood and Babcock, but until I see the evidence I need to see I'm going to believe it's just a tactic by a coach to get a player back on track, that's it.
-
Keep practicing well I suppose. I refuse to believe that the coach is harboring illogical hate verse a goalie, I believe there has to be a reason why he is going with Howard.
-
I'm not attempting to assume anything, that's why I'm saying Osgood is not doing what it takes to start, because he isn't starting. I'm thinking it has something to do with his attitude, practice, or another situation other than blind hate by a coach. Babcock is doing this for a reason, and I'm giving the coach the benefit of the doubt that it is a good one. It very well might be Babcock just hates Osgood, but without facts that I can see I'm not going to believe that. I'm Red Wing fan, not a player fan. I realize Osgood will need to be the goaltender in the playoffs, but that shouldn't mean we can't give Jimmy Howard a stretch of games to progress, especially when he has done nothing wrong.
-
Because Osgood is not doing what he needs to do to get in games, and Jimmy is.
-
Not even Bowman could save this team with the injuries we've had.
-
Michael Liambas is quickly becoming one of my favorite non-NHL players.
-
If giving up 3 goals is a terrible game for Howard sign me up. And luckily we don't have to worry about the playoffs in the middle of the season.
-
Babcock is obviously not seeing what he wants to see from Osgood right now. It's not like they don't see each other besides hockey games. He is with him practically everyday, and Babcock's job is to have his team in the best position possible. Maybe Osgood doesn't have the right mind set right now? We do not know the situation, atleast do not know the situation as well as the people involved. Babcock is doing what he feels is best for the team, he's usually more right than wrong. Howard is eventually going to need to play a string of games to progress, why not now when he is on a very impressive stretch?
-
We did fine last season with Osgood not getting a lot of starts, we'll do fine this season. There has to be a reason Babcock is doing this, he's too good of a coach just to be pissing off a player for no reason. If you want to believe this is a malicious move to ruin Osgood's career I don't know what to say. Babcock is making this decision for a reason, Osgood needs to be a professional. edit: This is a team game, and Babcock is doing what he thinks is best for his team. Now if he doesn't give Osgood a oppurtunity, or start him in the playoffs then I'll agree with what you are saying.
-
Osgood should respect his boss, that's what he is payed to do. When he becomes coach he can control these things. Howard didn't have a great game, but I guess Babcock really thinks Osgood can't play right now, and he knows the situation better than anyone on an internet forum.

Just in time for Datsyuk and Bertuzzi to go down!
-
Riveting tale, chap.
-
He was a stud in 08'.
-
I stand corrected, but I said when he isn't battling an injury which is important.
-
I wouldn't go that far. Crosby is one of the greatest playoff performers to ever play a sport, not to mention hockey. Hossa's not far off, but that's not a fair comparison. Crosby can only be compared to Gretzky, Jordan, Clemens, Tiger Woods, Ali etc.
-
Nah, I said he was a top 5 Winger. And I was sure to say he wasn't the best playoff performer though.
-
He's been a very good goalie when not injured. Always pulling for the Americans, hopefully he can come through healthy and reach his potential.
-
I wasn't making the case that Hossa is a stud playoff player. But to say he is a "choker" is completely wrong when the player is putting up near PPG marks. I don't blame you for not liking Hossa when he is playing for a division rival, that's normal.
-
Sorry I don't jump on band wagos. Red Wings are my team, although they are full of soft Euro pus*#$^. Hossa was probably the most talented Red Wing ever in the history of the franchise, it's a shame he couldn't carry our s***ty team on his back in the playoffs like he did in the regular season.
-
Weesh, all I know is Franzen is injury prone, a diver, not physical at all, and only puts in effort half the time. Hossa is 18x the person Franzen is. Franzen is all about the money, Hossa plays for the love of the game. Hossa is also a much better leader than Yzerman. And a better fighter than McCarty. And a better hitter than Konstantinov. And a smarter hockey player than Larionov. Faster and better defensively than Fedorov. It's a shame the Wings will never have a player of Hossa's caliber ever again.
-
Nope, although thanks for the complement.
-
There is no hope man, Miller Brew is possibly the biggest homer ever. Anyways Chicago is a fun team, hopefully the Wings can make it to the playoffs and see you guys in the first round, I'm sure that would be a fun one
-
Haha, so injuries hold weight on his performance? In 08' he was the Pen's best player. And in 09' he was injured. Bash him for 09' all you want, but you can't take away how good he was in 08'.
-
/sigh do you hold Datsyuk to this "injuries don't mean anything" standard? Hossa was injured deal with it, he was healthy in 08 and he'll most likely be healthy in 10' when he outscores everyone on the Wing's. Get jealous more. Hossa stepped up so many other times in his career on every level, if you are holding one injury plagued playoff run against him you have the perspective of a complete imbecile. Whatever, jealous Red Wing fans can stay jealous. Hossa will remain one of the great players in the NHL, while the Red Wing's continue struggling with scoring one goal in games and barely secure a playoff spot(Not saying the Wing's should of re-signed him, but if people are going to use the 09' playoffs against Hossa, this statement holds about the same intelligence).
