What Five Current NHL Players Do You Like the Most?
Carman replied to Shady Ultima's topic in General
1. Crosby 2. Avery 3. Hartnell 4. Richards 5. Parise Just noticed I don't like many Western Conference players outside of the Wing's. Kesler and Iginla come to mind for WC players. -
I do think Osgood should start in the playoffs. Just going to make that clear. Osgood is a goalie that usually is all or nothing with his performances, and I believe Babcock is waiting for Osgood to be great before he gives him the reins for more then a game.
-
This is what the initial contact looked like. Kopitar had his arm extended, and Phanuef had two hands on his stick.
-
The part where you believe NHL teams have that much disparity on a goaltenders performance. It's not like Howard was getting 10 shots against verse a Bantam team and Osgood had to stop All Star teams with 70+ shots.
-
Easy you don't initiate contact when you are a couple feet away from the boards, and you stay close to the boards. No touch icing needs to be in the game so situations like this are avoided. Phanuef can't let Kopitar past him to gain possession of the puck, and Kopitar can't give up on the puck. Just not a good situation.
-
Fair enough dirty play all around by Phanuef. But you can't say Kopitar protected himself on that play, he worked for position to get in front of Phanuef and didn't expect to get hit?
-
Look all I'm saying is Phanuef deserves a penalty, I'm not even disagreeing with the misconduct. I just believe that Kopitar should have thought about trying to touch an icing giving Phanuef a oppurtunity at taking the body. Kopitar's stick just barely missed the puck, if it would have touched then it would have been a clean hit. But it didn't, therefore Phanuef gets the gate. It's hockey, but sometimes players need to pick their battles and not give noted hitters a chance to hit.
-
Exactly, making a play on the puck with a physical defenseman over you you have to expect physical contact. Same when the puck comes around the corner to the blue line, the forward has to expect Kronwall is going to be there to hit them. Kopitar beat Phanuef to the puck, Phanuef instead of being beat and have on the league's best forwards go right around him, takes his space away and Kopitar didn't protect himself. Interference, that's all.
-
Sweet elbow, stay classy.
-
Maybe, just maybe Babcock expects his veteran goalie Osgood to play like an NHL caliber goaltender with his years of experience? You are such a complete Osgood homer I cannot even being to coherently discuss this situation. Babcock obviously wants to ruin Osgood by playing him against "tougher" teams. Poor Osgood.
-
Hey if I'm going to invite Charles Manson over to my house, I'm not going to have knives out everywhere. Phanuef is a physical player, and Kopitar challenged him physically.
-
Not saying it wasn't a penalty. But you don't see Lidstrom barreling into the defensive zone to negate an icing. A lot of the time you'll see players go around the defenseman in that situation. Players need to be smart on the forecheck, you can get hit before you have the puck. Hell look at Holmstrom he almost never has possession of the puck, yet he stills gets clocked.
-
Probably had something to do with him laughing with his teammates once he got to the bench.
-
Yeah don't expect to be hit when trying to touch a puck! Play deserved a penalty no doubt, but players need to protect themselves as well.
-
Any given night a team can look like a Division leader, or a last place team. NHL competition is NHL competition, they are both playing in front of a depleted line up that isn't scoring and Howard has been better. Face it. Until Howard s***s the bed it is his show. At least in the regular season.
-
Don't buy that. Teams almost always switch up the goaltending in back-to-back games.
-
Kopitar has to be smarter on that play. Know who you are battling against.
-
Howard didn't play because it was a back-to-back not because he lost and it was Osgood's chance. It's not as unfair of a situation as Osgood makes it out to be. He's getting his chances when Howard loses.

Leino hopefully realizes that he is running out of chances. Hopefully we can see some determination tonight.
-
Babcock knows what he is doing. Osgood's career is winding down, Howard's is just getting started. Osgood has some of the worst statisics in the league, Howard doesn't. Osgood deserves starts after Howard has a iffy performance. The goalie with the hot hand plays, we don't have buffer in the standings for Osgood to work out the kinks in a couple games, he needs to earn back to back appearances just like Howard does.

What Five Current NHL Players Do You Hate the Most?

They are usually the same people that think he "sucks". They aren't exactly at the top of the genetic pool, what do you expect? -
I actually voted Lidstrom. But Crosby is a very close second.
