I understand if the price is too high. But iginla himself should be in consideration. I don't get why people would dismiss him without even a seconds thought. This guy would come in and immediately be our 3rd best forward. Now I don't want holland to trade the farm, but i sure as hell want him to be in the conversation, at the very least drive up the price for another team.
-
If iginla sucks then by would he be 3rd on our team in points or game with .70. It's not like he has struggled mightily, and its a half season, if there was ever a season to go after a older rental this would be the season.
-
Oh yea agreed, I just couldn't think of another young player that's been in trade rumors.
-
It's a situation where Datsyuk is getting close to the end, and I think we need to make an effort to put talent around him. We have assets, and with the rise of Lashoff, and Kindl, our defense situation is looking much brighter the nthe beginning of the year. I wouldn't be against going after Iginla, he's still a good player, he's just no longer a PPG top 10 player. But he would still provide us with a consistent scoring winger, and would be an immediate upgrade to our team.
-
Yeah, the untouchable comment was just meant with this trade for Iginla, if the Wings were to go after a younger player like Yandle for example all bets are off.
-
Well, It's just my opinion as those players are kind of unique in our system, we don't have much goaltending depth, we are kinda weak with big centers, and Sproul is about as elite of defensive prospect as you can have, it would take a hell of a player to get him. Not quite sure why that's "cute".
-
Don't see it happening. If the Wings make this move they are going to be committed to winning now, if we get Iginla it's going to be for a non roster player. But you could add a 500 goal scorer to Datsyuk's wing. Despite Iginla's regression, he hasn't scored less than 30 goals in 13 years. He's only a year older than Datsyuk...

Wings do have a ton of prospects right now, what's the harm in maybe letting Jurco, Ferraro or Pulkinnen go? There are a few untouchables like Mrazek, Sproul, Sheahan, but the rest I might be able to be talked into letting go. I'm excited about our prospects, but we really do have quite a few, and may need to shed some, so others can get the opportunity to play in Grand Rapids and develop.

Don't mind it. Partially worried about the price, but Iginla while getting close to the end, is still a great piece for the lockeroom, and the Wings have a pretty stacked prospect pool and are actually running out of contract slots for pro prospects. He's still a .70 PPG player which would 3rd on our team right now, that's without playing with Datsyuk. The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to like it. Iginla is the perfect rental player, experienced, motivated to win, consistent, physical, and a great leader. The worst case is we lose some assets, but at least we show our team that we are serious about making a run.

Not trying to make excuses, they shouldn't have done it. But leading up to that play there was interference along the boards by anyone, and usually refs let teams play, especially along the boards, then Getzlaf gets called on a inadvertent tripping, which is a penalty no doubt, but not that egregious and is usually looked over towards the end of games. I blame the refs in these circumstances more then the players, the players are working their asses off all game, and the refs make a crucial call that pretty much decides the game. It can be pretty frustrating as a hockey player, especially with the Wings getting double the powerplay time tonight, probably just boiled over for the Ducks. Oh well, great weekend for the wings. I really wanted to see us win a game that we didn't really dominate, and this was a gritty, unpretty game. Jimmy was outstanding tonight, and stole the game. We need to be less aggressive on pinches, we still give up way too many odd man rushes.

Very exciting news, I can't say I've seen a ton of this kid outside of tournaments. Really can't wait to see how well he can adapt.
-
I feel dirty. I hate getzlaf and perry, but that was a weak call especially at the end of the period. Just really bad officating, I really don't blame the Ducks for getting pissed, I know I would. Oh well not going to feel sorry for them, lord knows the Wings have had more then their fair share of bad calls against them.

Big save JimmyH!

Nice embellishment by Smith... I'll take it, but man I wouldn't be happy if I was a Duck fan.

Awesome news with Jarnkrok, can't wait to see how he can adapt to the game in North America.

It's a luxury move a winning team, with a solid top 5 defenseman signed through another year can make. They have some very good defensive prospects that are ready to make the jump into pros soon. Shero has been the best GM in terms of trading the past few years with getting Sutter, Neal, Niskanen, Kunitz etc. Not a bad move, Morrow can provide some experience for them on the forward end, something that they don't have a lot of considering their oldest guy is like 35.

Very good first period. Nice to see that second powerplay start producing, Nyquist is looking really good on that powerplay, made a good play along the boards to get it to smith. Howard played very well that period, bailed us out on a few premium scoring chances for the Ducks. Hope Lashoff is ok, luckily he's smart and is wearing a visor, so hopefully it will just be a mouth/nose issue. Anything but a broken jaw and he should be back tonight. Tootoo fighting at that moment isn't the greatest, at least he didn't lose, but I'm really not a fan of letting a road team fight us when we are up in a game, just don't see the point, the momentum is already on our side.
-
Yep video review and harsh penalties. There will be some calls that are bad, and weren't dives. But the only way to get them out of the game is to make the risk not worth the reward. And right now the reward of getting a powerplay far outweighs the small chance of getting caught diving. It's on the NHL to enforce the rules, the players will do whatever it takes to win.

That sucks, Murph was growing nicely into the awkward, funny, hall of fame, former Wing, cult hero. It had to be something other then ratings.

Kronwall has to stop taking these penalties, he's second in the entire league for minors now. -

Ian White is terrible holy crap. Just looks like he didn't want to do anything that shift. -
Damnit Steve. Oh well, Dekyeser is the one that I really want. I wanted to say at least he ended up in Tampa, but then I remembered we're in their division from now on. Ugh, and I wanted Stevie to do well.

Wings have proven to be a good team, we just need to get our act together. We are inconsistent much like they were, except we've actually been in the playoff seeds for the majority of the year unlike them. When the wings play against Vancouver they looked very good, if that team shows up to the playoffs they could go on a run, especially with experience playoff performers. Not saying it's likely, but the chance is there, this team isn't a bottom dwelling team, it's a bad Red Wing team, but it's still an above average NHL team.
