As a coach you have to manage the "media teeter-totter" when things are going well and the team wins you will see Babcock point out the negative things the team does, but when they go on a losing streak he focuses on the positives. It's what all good coaches do. You will never get a real candid answer from Babock because he understands it can and will be used against his team. And as a team you have to stay positive no matter what. They aren't going to start pointing fimgers at each other through the media, because that does nothing but complicate an already negative situation. You really think Babcock and the team is happy with their performance so far in the season? If you do then you are severely underestimating the commitment of a core of players that have achieved the highest level of the game almost twice in back to back season.

As a team you have to stay positive especially to the media. Focusing on the negatives does no one any good. Hell if they wanted to the Wing's could fill a 2 hour show on dissecting how many mistakes they make in a game, but so could other teams. I'm a hard critic usually on the Red Wing's, but I think they have done enough the past two decades to not be a dominate team that wins 50 games this year. I'm happy with watching the young players improve. I just don't know what the guy want's the team to do so early in the season... I'm not saying it's acceptable to be this bad, I just don't understand what the Wing's are supposed to say to the media in interviews, do you want the whole team turning into Mike Richards' and not say anything?

Seriously? Jimmy D. built one of the best franchises the game has ever had how dare this guy insult one of the best hockey minds in the world what the hell has this guy done? I guess you are going to attractive spoiled fans if you make the playoffs 20 years in a row... The team is trying, they just aren't that good. What do you want them to say in a interview when you ask them how they are doing? Man that article is a disgrace in my opinion. Such spoiled fans, unbelievable.

Completely agree, wasn't that dirty of a play. Messier and Stevens would hit people like this all day and the other team wouldn't even question it. Booth put himself in a vulnerable position and Richards finished a check good for him. Hopefully Booth isn't injured badly he is a very good player.

Is this post serious? I can't tell. It's a good thing Homer is the leading scorer? Is Datsyuk being a beast really the best thing for the team right now? I'd take him just being himself. Zetterberg leading the team in points? He isn't even in the top 50 for the league haha. Rafalski isn't in the top 30 for defensemen... The team is 3-4-2. The PK is 21st in the league... They just aren't very good.

It seems like they can't play a complete game, today they had a decent PK, decent goaltending(one bad goal, but i'll take 2 goals against for Howard), and decent defensive zone play; but couldn't score on the PP. They are what they are, they just don't have the talent they have in the past and they aren't built/used to playing tough gritty games. Datsyuk and Zetterberg aren't playing well, because they are really the only offensive threat the other team has to worry about now and are focusing all their effort on stopping them. Really hope we can make some decent moves this season to sure up the future without changing the face of the team too much.

Not Howard's fault, he had an average game though. Team just isn't that good, I'm starting to get apathetic now. The Wing's don't have an offense at the moment, the defense is average, goaltending is average and can't steal a game... They are what they are, hopefully we can get some good young talent through some trades.

I really respect Jimmy D. for his honesty. This team isn't going to set regular season records, but with the experience and talent they should be in each and every game. He didn't say we should lower, just suggested that we should take a second look at our expectations. We still have a good team, just not a dominate team. Osgood isn't the type of goalie to carry teams through regular season's by himself, Lidstrom is aging and can only do so much, we have new/rookie players that have to step up and play very important roles, this certainly isn't a year that you can be 100% confident on what they can accomplish. That said we still have a playoff team, and a very experienced one at that. I wouldn't bet against the Red Wing's that's for sure, it should still be an exciting year.

OV tends to leave his leg behind a lot when he follows through. I remember the Gonchar hit last year, and a couple other instances. I don't think he does it purposely, but he has to watch it now as he'll be a repeat offender.

Wasn't a horrible hit by Ruutu, still deserves what he gets though. Hopefully Tucker can recover, he went into the boards very awkwardly.

Well thing is Hall is a prospect on the level of Crosby/Ovechkin in which there hasn't been in the last couple years, the kid is the real deal and would of easily went before Tavares this year if he went in the draft and there is no European player that I'm aware of at the moment that's better then him either. I've been watching Hall play for the last couple seasons and he has the size, skill, and vision that would translate very well immediately into the NHL, if only the Wing's could get him without losing much else on there team they would be a Stanley Cup contender for the next 10 years. /drool...

Probably don't expect your 6/7th defenseman to be on the ice for all of the opposing teams goals for instance.

We couldn't get Kopitar if we sold our entire team. He is almost as untouchable as Ovechkin for that franchise.

First goal looked like a high stick, but he didn't make contact until the stick was lower then the net. And the second goal was a loose puck in the crease that Osgood didn't cover, the referee had a unobstructed view of the puck and didn't blow the whistle. It was a call that could of gone either way, but having Datsyuk/Lebda moving the Phoenix player into the net really hurts any case of a blown call in my opinion.

I don't get your point? That was a long time ago, when we actually had a load of talent on the team(probably on of the best defenses in the modern era) and a capable young goaltender. Now we have a streaky goalie who has been awful the past two regular season with a unproven back up, lost our leading scorer for most of the year, have shown no signs of improving defensively.

Nice post, hard to argue against it. I myself haven't been a big fan of McCrimmon's style since he got here, it seems very conservative in the defensive zone. I wouldn't be against seeing what happens if we get a new defensive coach...

Holmstrom during 5v5 play, penalty that led to the first goal. Keep him fresh for the PP. Lebda is just an abortion, he scored a goal and still managed to be the worst player on the ice that takes a very particular set of skills... Other then that we need more Brad May.

What if in a 2-2 game in the third Kronwall nails Toews in the Neutral zone causing a turn over and a odd man rush the other way? Not only did you lose a scoring chance for a clean hit, Kronwall might get a penalty for defending himself.... If the other team wants to fight after a clean hit they need to be given a penalty at least.

How dare Mitchell not let Toews know when a penalty is up it's not like that is a significant part of a hockey game.
