Getting outplayed early. Hopefully a scoring chance/hit/or Brad May kicking some ass will light the spark.

4-1 win Helm,Bertuzzi,Datsx2 for goals zetterberg with 4 assists, Lidstrom with 2 assists for that really big number he is going to hit.

    Jordin Tootoo Out for Season?

Don't tease me like that. I would do a lot of things to see Tootoo/Avery play for the Wing's.

    Kyle Quincy

Matthias hasn't been doing that bad still not even close to what he was supposed to be. I follow the Florida prospects pretty well, have a friends in their rank. He is playing really well on the PK and got a lot faster turned his game into a grinder role pretty much. Still don't seem him becoming anything beyond a 3rd-4th liner though so it doesn't look like a bad deal for the Wing's.

    Number Retirement

I'd have no problems with Fedorov or Lidstrom both dominating players with the Wing's. If something political stops Fedorov from getting his #91 retired it would be a shame. Osgood is borderline, if he can get one more cup or at least good years then I wouldn't have any objections, but he certainly can't repeat last regular season again.

    Top 3 Former Wings

Pretty much Hossa/Conks/Sammy for me, although I still have a soft spot for Aaron 'whatever he hits he destroys' Ward, and Slava Kozlov. Anyone hear anything about Martin Lapointe, did he retire? Not really a huge impact player, but in a couple years Shawn Matthias might break out in Florida. He hasn't looked too bad in the couple games I've watched.

    The new, new lines...

I love this forum, a week ago I was "crazy" for saying Bertuzzi is a top 6 forward on the Wing's. Now after one good game it completely changes. For the money he is getting paid he will be fine, I'm sure Babcock will use him correctly.

a partner for pasha and the mule

What are you talking about? Holmstrom scored and did well on the Powerplay nobody has said take Homer off the first PP. Datsyuk looked soo much better without having to drag Holmstrom along on even strength, and Babcock played Homer a lot less tonight ES and we beat a good team. I don't see your point?

If he was a top 5 player he would have been a shoe in on his team for Conn Smythe(Much like he was in 02), and not be 3rd place in Norris voting(Unlike the past 15 years). Lidstrom is still a very good defensemen, might even be the best if he rebounds from a sub par year. But it's not like he isn't human and can have a prime of 20 years no matter how smart of a player we know he is. He is almost 40. Every team would kill for the chance at practically every other top 20 player as well.

The author said skill/amount paid. No doubt Lidstrom has the most skill, but he is also one the highest paid defenseman in the game. He is getting paid what he is, he isn't underpaid, he isn't overpaid therefore he is right 8-10 range. I don't see what the issue is? Zetterberg is probably worth more then he is getting paid therefore he is ranked higher, Leino is worth a lot more then he is getting paid therefore he is a higher. I was joking with the May thing he is a good 500k player though imo.

Franzen out 4 months with torn ACL

We would have to sell our teams future to get Kovalchuk at the deadline, literally at least 2-3 first rounders, a top prospect(Ericsson/Kindl/Tatar/Abby), and a good player (Kronwall/Franzen/Flip). Kovalchuck is a top 5 player, as much as I'd like him on our team I would not want to trade for him. Not to mention we need better middle-salary players then anything else.

    Franzen's injury

Well it's either we improve defense or have a 5th-8th seed or even out for the playoffs. Franzen was going to be relied on heavily this season. I have faith the Red Wing's will battle through, but this is shaping up to be a tough compared to our previous years.

    Quinn Fined 10 Large

Quinn should know better, he is lucky he is still able to coach NHL hockey. He should know after the Moore/Bertuzzi incident the league has no choice but to fine a coach/player for saying something like that.

I was joking, but I don't think Lidstrom's contract is a steal anymore, he certainly isn't hands down the best defenseman anymore, *notice* I said hands down he certainly can be and I think he is still in the top 3, but being 40 years old this will be the worse his contract will ever look, and it's not a bad.

    Lids + Raf + 1st + Flip + Howard for Getzlaf + Niedermayer + Perry + Sbisa + Giguere Blockbuster

    1. May 2. Zetterberg 3. Leino 4. Datsyuk 5. Ericsson 6. Franzen 7. Stuart 8. Kronwall 9. Helm 10. Lidstrom 11. Osgood 12. Maltby 13. Cleary 14. Flippula 15. Williams 16. Bertuzzi 17. Rafalski 18. Meech 19. Holmstrom 20. Draper 21. Eaves 22. Abdelkader 23. Lilja 24. Lebda 568970942. Howard Rafalski's deal isn't a great one, but he is a perfect fit with our team and we had to pay it to get him, he is so important to our offense as a whole, and he isn't flashy so a lot of what he does gets taken for granted. Stuart would be a #2 at least on most teams, he makes some iffy plays, but he is also very steady and physical which is something that is really needed on our backend. Datsyuk is slipping down fast, hopefully he can pick it up but between the playoffs and the start of the season it's not been good. Lidstrom deserves his money, but he didn't play like a 7.450 player this year and I'm not expecting too much more once he is aging, by no means is he a bad deal but he isn't a steal anymore for that much. Hard to rate Lilja, before his injury he was inconsistent, he was on a stretch of doing well, but he hasn't played in a long long time... Haven't seen much of Williams/Bertuzzi neither are doing bad, both are making about what they deserve. Holmstrom is the best front presence in the NHL, but the worst even strength first liner in the NHL as well, for 2 million I guess it's not a horrible deal if he can continue to keep our powerplay in the top 5 of the NHL.

Franzen out 4 months with torn ACL

Wait, 4 months for a torn ACL? Wasn't Morrow out like 6 months? Well at least we get to see what kind of roster magic Holland can do with plenty of room.

Franzen out 4 months with torn ACL

Is this the same knee that Franzen seems to hurt every season? Him and Gaborik must be related.

Franzen out 4 months with torn ACL

Umm.... damn. That's a big shoe to fill. Now Babcock has to play Zetterberg with Datsyuk right? Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Homer(ugh) Bert-Flip-Leino Williams-Helm-Cleary eaves/Maltby-Draper-May ? Either way not good news this early in a season.
