It's a interesting discussion certainly, but the more I think about it the less likely it's going to happen. I just can't see a female ever break in the male MMA, or male boxing etc. Now i'm not going to say there can't be one or two females who redefine the limit of women in men's hockey, but to this day I haven't seen it. I'll gladly eat the crow for this one too if it ever happens:)

Boyd Devereaux and Tomas Kopecky.

True enough, but he could take hits. Also notice there aren't many big hits in women leagues. The women body is much more prone to concussions and just isn't made to take hits like gretzky took. There would be many many more injuries if women were to play like this.

I had a couple friends on the girls U-17 national team. If we played roller hockey they were just as talented with the puck, and had plenty hockey intelligence; but they just aren't strong enough to work in the corners or keep up with the physical game on the open ice. There is a reason pretty much every major sport separates sexes. It's not a matter of being fair or sexist it's just a matter of biology.

Conklin to start Thursday; Rafalski out again
Carman replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
There were no goalies available that fit how the Red Wings team is built. Even mentioning Gerber as a possibility makes your arguement quite funny. The goaltending situation will be sorted out in the playoffs, Osgood has the playoff experience and Conkin is in the top 10 regular season stats for goalies. We will be fine, the only issue is if we can find the playoff switch and get kronner, stuart, cleary, and kopecky to start playing more physical which will help tighten up the defense. And if the goaltending leads to a early playoff exit you bet there will be some big moves in the off season, Holland will fix something that proved to be broken not something seems to be broken, but has never let him down. -
Cam Ward was young and wasn't being significantly out played night in night out by his "back-up". Although Gerber had much better stats that year he was very inconsistent. Ward also greatly exceeded expectations and got very hot. I'm not saying Osgood isn't going to come around, but the situation can not be paralleled.

Very good interview. I knew there must have been a reason for me liking Nabby.
-
And people laugh at me when I think Rinne should get at least a hard look for Calder...
-
The difference is Kiprusoff is the best goalie on his roster this season. Osgood? I don't so much want to bash Osgood as I want to support Conklin...
-
I'll be comfortable if he does that to the end of the year. But getting pulled a month until the playoffs isn't my definition of "improving".
-
The one thing that separated Osgood from the rest of the goalies is his ability to play in the big game and consistency he was never a top talent type goaltender. I'm not saying he won't dramatically improve, but I've never seen a goalie play a season this bad and automatically switch and become his old self in the playoffs. But hey if there was ever a goalie to do it, it would be Osgood. I'm putting my focus into hoping Conklin can finally break-out and get confidence. He is just on the edge of being on a perfect starter for the Red Wings - Cheap and Consistent.

No we don't need Backstrom. The Red Wings are built around a average ~2 million dollar netminder. We use that extra salary to pay superstars. The difference between a #10 goalie and a #20 goalie is defense. It's just sad that Osgood isn't in the top 40 and that's my point.

Still is a year older. Lots of things happen in a year.
-
On the Red Wings? I'd say yes - partially. The talent he will be playing with will help a lot. He will be a better passer, but probably not as strong around the front as Franzen - although Leino is pretty good -
-
Cam Ward. EDIT: What I mean by this is, the whole team is more important then the goalie. It's just Osgood for whatever reason can't seem to get the confidence of the whole team. It's not a good situation and he is running out of time to find the switch.

He is old. Old people don't play as well as they did when they were young. It's pretty simple. He isn't what he was. Face it. I'm. Going. To. Use. Periods. Because. I'm. Not. Being. Sarcastic.

Matt Greene purely because of interviews.

Three scenarios I see playing out. 1. Lose in the first two rounds due to goaltending = Big roster movies to get a 30+ veteran/proven goalie. 2. Go deep into playoffs (Conference finals) and goal tending wasn't a huge issue= Osgood/Howard next year. 3. Osgood blows his chance in the playoffs and Conklin leads us to a cup = Conklin/Howard next year.

I was hoping to not have to talk negatively about Osgood for the rest of the season. He was just not focused tonight.
-
He's always had the scoring touch, the only thing that limited his progress was size/strength. He's finally starting to come into his own. I'm very excited to see him excel.
-
Good luck to Chelios, I hope he can play for a lot longer. Great seeing people push the boundaries of human abilites.

Huh? There are other teams in the league? When the hell did this happen?
