    Thoughts on Downey

Yeah I'm not saying that Kopecky lost the fight he had some nice punches. Reading my comment over again I wasn't very clear on my points. I was speaking in a more broader sense that Kopecky this season isn't being as physical as he has been in the past(He is hitting, but the hits are more rub-outs then anything else -which is concerning to me since afterall he is 6' 3"), has some of the worst balance on skates that I've seen, and is generally very weak on his skates. I don't want to sound as a Kopecky hater, and if he can work on intensity and lower body strength-skating he can be a very good player, I just want to see improvement, and there hasn't been a lot on the physical side for him so far this year. Just my 2 cents...

    Thoughts on Downey

Youtube video of him getting taken down by Sharp(Not a very good fighter) is pretty humorous. This is how Kopecky has been this year.(Granted this is last year=p) Edit: Linked the video, but it still works=P
  3. Notice what both teams have in common? Understand how that's not a 'problem'?
  4. People wondering why the wing's don't need to waste salary on a goalie? Here you go. "The Wings haven't won a Vezina Trophy -- awarded to the best goalie -- since 1955. But the team has five of the past 14 Selke trophies -- given to the best defensive forward. The emphasis remains on the players, said Babcock, who reinstalled Bowman's hard-charging ethos after the team took a bit of a hiatus under Dave Lewis. The club's other dominant trait is sublime puck possession. At best, it amounts to a sophisticated -- and deflating -- version of keep-away. Some nights the puck seems to float across the ice, impossible angle to impossible angle, tape to tape to tape -- the sweet spot of the hockey stick. Few have a better view than the goalie. "Sometimes you don't feel like you are as much a part of the game," Conklin said. Last Wednesday was a good example. The Wings were toying with the Nashville Predators. The team outshot them, 41-25. The Wings won, 6-2. But that doesn't begin to illustrate the dominance. For long periods of time -- as much as 45 seconds, an eternity in hockey -- the puck never left the Predators' zone. Meaning Conklin was simply a spectator. A lull punctuated by a sudden oncoming rush requires a kind of mental exactitude. And it isn't for everybody. Said Darren Pang, a former NHL goalie and analyst for NBC: "A lot of guys need constant action. But the Red Wings need someone who doesn't face a shot for a while and then makes a big save." Still, Holland argued, the team doesn't need an $8-million-a-year lockdown goalie in this system, especially in this salary-cap era. Holland chooses to stock his team with Marian Hossas and Brian Rafalskis instead. "You've got five or six (goalies) that are a different level than everybody else," he said, "but the difference between the 10th best and 20th best isn't that great -- if you play defense." Despite the occasional rush, Detroit goalies benefit from ridiculously skilled offensive and defensive players who constrict opposing forwards. The effect is often subtle." Nice move by the most talented player in the league - Sidney Crosby. Why did every Capital try the 5-hole, kinda seemed odd to me.

300 Career Wins with one team

How the hell can you have a 'opposing viewpoint' on a thread named '300 career wings with one team respect for osgood." I don't see how any person can not say that Osgood has been a good goalie at some point and is deserving of at least some sort of recognition . Obviously there would be a slew of 'what have you done for me lately people', but man this thread title could not be anymore fairer. It's a freaking stat, it's not like the thread name was "Osgood for Hall of Fame? Come share your opinions." Sorry for ranting, but it just bugs me

Turning out to be a hell of a game. Really entertaining. That rush by Ovie at the end of the 2nd period was pretty funny.

300 Career Wins with one team

Plenty of other threads to discuss this season's shortcomings'. He played a major role in our past STANLEY CUP winning teams, give the man credit on his accomplishments and save the flaming for the plenty of other negative threads about him on internet.

    Gary Roberts Retires

That's a shame, I'm pretty pissed that TB didn't buy him out. Pretty s***ty way to treat such a great player, would have loved to see him in a Wing's wheel. Great career Roberts too bad it had to end like this.

    Ken Holland Franzen negotiations

I met Holland while his son played in net for a Plymouth travel team. I think I had a hat-trick that day. His son is worse then this year's Osgood.

    Thoughts on Downey

The main reason to have Downey in the line-up isn't to help the red wings win games, but to add much more excitement and entertainment for the fans. So I fully support Downey in the line-up for most regular season games. But it would not make sense for him to be on the ideal playoff game line-up.

    NHL Shift Length

It's rarer the higher the level of play. It was pretty common in Juniors-Midgets to have your top player out for half the game. But in the NHL it's very rare to see a forward play that long. I can see a defenseman on a 4 minute powerplay, but man considering how fast the pace is in the NHL that's either very impressive or completely stupid .

Time to line up for your crow.

Man, that was my one chance to ruin my life. Gahhh. Having a Kopecky tattoo would have definitely been enough reason to hang myself. Guess I have to rationalize my suicide another way.

    Thoughts on Downey

I have a feeling that the playoff's themselves will provide energy for Kronner/Stewie, Malts/Kop/Helm/Draps to all step up in the physical department. If not, then I guess we know what to work on in the off-season

    Thoughts on Downey

I see what your getting at, and that's why I wanted Neil at the TDL, but that's not how the Red Wing's have been all season, and I don't see them changing it. It's worked all year, the powerplay is going to be the deterrent in the playoffs, also there are practical no fights in the playoffs since the instigator rule. I would think rather then having Downey play 4 minutes a night, Babcock would use that spot so he could cycle 4 lines. Just my thoughts.

Time to line up for your crow.

He can do that in the preseason, yay! I thought kopecky is supposed to be a energy-grinding player for our 4th line. If anything he is entertaining the crowd by anklebending his way into the goalies, and making his team mates laugh at him on the bench for his hands of stone. But seriously, I just want one of his 90+ hits this year to be like they were over a year ago. I know he is recovering from a knee injury, but I just want to see some motivation through hits, and there have been very few times this year. He is a big guy, and if he wants to turn into franzen then we better fill the physical role that he isn't filling. His hits this year are concerning to me, I'm not asking for Scott Stevens, but the 4th line has been weak on the fore-check all year, and even weaker in the defensive zone. I know that isn't all Tomas, but he was part of it. I hope they can keep up the last couple games into the playoffs.

    Thoughts on Downey

He should have roster spot, and play in the regular season in rivilary games, physical games. I can't see him in the line-up for the playoffs, I love Downey, but he is a defensive liability especially compared to the Red Wings who have 2nd line wingers playing in GR(Lieno=P).
