It's why fighting is useless in the NHL. Do you really think Seto would fight Tootoo? Hell no, Seto would just draw the instigator. People aren't going to just fight, they have nothing to be afraid of with the instigator penalty.

Lost focus for 5 minutes and we're down. Need to come out strong in the third period. Our powerplay needs to get going, when Andersson has our best chance, it's not a good sign. Although, he did look decent in front of the net.

    Howard = Average

Even if it is, it's one season compared to 3. Was Roy bad because he had a 3.20 GAA and .890 SV% in 92-93? Lots of goalies have bad streches. And even more goalies have bad stretches playing behind bad defensive teams. All the evidence points to this being a bad stretch, on top of playing behind a terrible defensive team. Facts are even if Howard isn't elite, there isn't a goalie available, that could put up elite numbers behind this team, I'd argue there isn't a goalie in today's game that could put up elite numbers behind the defense the Wings are playing right now. Turnovers leading to odd man rushes is some of the worst I've seen. There is only so much a goalie can do in those situations. I don't see the problem with the thread, I'm just amused that it's gone on for so long when all the facts point to Howard and the team needs to play better. And that's all it really comes down to, because Howard's proven to be a top goalie.

Sens Karlsson suffers lacerated Achilles tendon

Well he wouldn't have been injured if he was. Not saying it's his fault, but facts are the facts. I guess you just want to suspend everyone for anything now, let's take hitting out of the game while we are at it, sometimes people get hurt!

    Notes from Saturday's practice

He's not been pushing the right buttons, but that play really screwed Kronwall. Kindl was supposed to be his outlet, instead of that, Kindl put himself in the exact position that screws the only lane Kronwall had to pass through. Kronwall should of just ate the puck, or turn it over along the boards, but the whole situation started with Kindl being out of position.

Healthy starters the problem, Not young replacements

Oh god that's worse than our current team, without the injuries. What the hell kind of depth would that team have if Suter, Parise Datsyuk, or Zetterberg go down? Not to mention we'd have two rookie goalies, and only two penalty killers on the back end. Yikes.

2/15 GDT : Anaheim Ducks 5 at Red Wings 2

Good news, Andersson, Emmerton and Tatar were our best players. Bad News, Andersson, Emmerton and Tatar were our best players. Kronwall has to be better, he's regressing from last year. White has been awful. Offense is going to suffer when Datsyuk/Bertuzzi/Franzen/Samuelsson are out, but that has nothing to do with the turnovers.

4th line has been great. Lots of chances, and the play is staying in the anaheim zone.

Looks like Howard's going to need to steal another one here. Way too many turnovers.

Sens Karlsson suffers lacerated Achilles tendon

So what should of happened to Hossa after he ruined Berards career? And what Hossa did was actually against the rules! What rules were Cooke breaking? You aren't allowed to pin defenseman any more? Intention matters when it's the sole reason for a suspension, there is no reason for a penalty on Cooke at all here, he didn't do anything wrong in the first place, so you can't compare it to players that take a penalty.

Sens Karlsson suffers lacerated Achilles tendon

His foot has to come down, it's called gravity. He can't just keep his foot up for an extended period of time along the boards. Especially when you consider the body contact, it's very likely that he lost his balance. Unless Matt Cooke has the strength and ability of one of the greatest skaters in history. I don't know, it just seems much more likely that he just lost balance on one leg, and finished the play normally.

Sens Karlsson suffers lacerated Achilles tendon

So Matt Cooke losing balance while leaning into someone along the boards, while standing on one leg isn't plausible? I understand it's Matt Cooke, but he's only human, and that play sure seemed accidental to me. He tried to get his knee between Karlsson's legs and then plant, instead of planting between Karlsson's legs, he planted on Karlsson's leg that he just got into position. The whole play was so short, if Karlsson's legs didn't get moved together Matt Cooke would have been able to plant his foot on the ice pinning Karlsson to the boards, but in less than a second Karlsson had his legs come together and Matt Cooke was just finishing the play like any normal hockey player would. It's a terrible accident, but this isn't a situation where Cooke saw someone vulnerable on the ice, skated up, and the jumped on his leg. This play was completely normal, and would have been without tragedy if Karlsson legs stayed apart which is much more common along the boards, rather then jumping and keeping your legs together.

Babcock: Is he the right guy going forward?

He's not the perfect coach, but I can't think of anyone I'd take over him. Until he loses the respect and confidence of the team, he's my guy, even if I don't agree with every move.

Sens Karlsson suffers lacerated Achilles tendon

To fill in for people that haven't played hockey, Matt Cooke put his leg up like that so that he could gain leverage and pin the defenseman along the boards by putting his leg between Karlsson's, unfortunately Karlsson's legs came together quickly in an effort to evade Cooke and that freak accident happened. I understand that it's Matt Cooke, and he truly deserves no benefit of doubt, but it's a legitimate play by him to win a puck battle, or at the very least pin the defenseman along the boards. I truly believe it was an accident, but I understand it's Matt Cooke and don't blame anyone for being against him.

Biggest mistake Red Wings have done

If you get rid of all the old guys who do you call up in case of injuries? Depth is importmant and having young guys on two way deals insures that you won't be dressing crap players when it matters. Much like helm played mor playoff games then regular season games, when playoffs come, or the wings are struggling for more then a couple games the best players will be on the ice, or at least should be and have been in the past.

    Howard = Average

You are crazy .916 2.43 Howard .916 2.31 Quick .916 2.55 Price .909 2.67 Fleury .917 2.55 Vokoun .918 2.42 Halak .915 2.58 Miller .910 2.75 Cam Ward Is Howard as good as Brodeur, Lundqvist, Rask or Rinne? Probably not, but he's proven to be a top 10 goalie at the very least, and he has been a top 5 goalie before. Howard is very very good, if you don't think he's elite top 5 I understand, but how in the world can you have Fleury and Ward ahead of him? That's just crazy talk in my opinion.

Joey MacDonald claimed by Calgary off waivers

Good for Joey Mac, hopefully he can get some starts and play as successful as he did here. Right move for the Wings, Howard, Gus and Mzarek is plenty of depth.

    2/9 GDT : Oilers 1 at Red Wings 2

You're welcome! Called it haha. I never said Datsyuk wasn't going to get it going, but 2 powerplay points in 10 games isn't good for Datsyuk. Hopefully this starts a better trend.

There it is Datsyuk!! I knew my badgering would help haha

    2/9 GDT : Oilers 1 at Red Wings 2

Yep, every line but Datsyuk's has been getting good pressure. Hopefully Datsyuk can bear down and get a powerplay point some point this season, would be nice to have our highest played player help lead the team on the powerplay.

    2/9 GDT : Oilers 1 at Red Wings 2

Yeah that has everything to do with datsyuk leading the team in giveaways. He can be better, that's all I'm saying. Oh and how many games has Cleary played with Datsyuk?
  23. Carman

    2/9 GDT : Oilers 1 at Red Wings 2

I'm not calling him out, I just think Datsyuk is the type of player that should make his line mates better that's all. He's not been bad or anything, I just haven't seen a consistent effort out of him yet, too many turnovers so far for him in my opinion.

He's just being scratched for how bad he's been. Just trying to jump start him.
