Fighting doesn't help protect anyone, if anything it makes the game more dangerous and emotional, players are going to take dirty hits depending on the situation the person being checked is in, not because there is someone on the bench that will try and challenge them to a fight they don't have to accept . Fighting's only use is for entertainment and a way to get momentum back in the game, that's it. And the second one works against your team 50% of the time. I'd personally prefer a team that just wins games rather than .

Am I off base for thinking that penalizing these hits will lead to players being more lax in protecting themselves in the neutral zone which might cause even more blindside hits and eventually change the entire game when the defenseman can no longer play the man on the open ice, which could lead to a lot more speed through the neutral zone and more chances for high impact knee collisions when a players tries to avoid someone, and icing plays. Getting rid of certain plays will have unintended consequences, I really don't mind the fines/suspensions for head hunting, but going any further than that can have a much broader impact on the game than one might think and could in some cases cause even more injuries.

Everything Abdelkader can provide? Abdelkader is a much better skater, much better offensive skills(althought Abdelkader has struggled offensive since making the switch to center but is still better than Moen) and is much younger has better F/O Percentage than 36% for Moen last year compared to Abdelkader 52%, and 40% this year to Abdelkader's 51%. Hell Moen doesn't really even take faceoffs for Montreal anymore(only 12 this year), Abdelkader has 97 hits compared to Moen's 73 and Moen gets about 4:00 Minutes more a game. I like Moen he's a solid player, but he's not better than Abdelkader just because he has a crappy talent at punching people, that's for boxing not hockey.

I'd much rather get a point producer like Vermette, A.Kostitsyn, Grabovski, Hemsky or Selanne, or a defenseman like Gleason than just bottom line grinder like Morrow or Moen. You should get those type players via free agency because having to give up assets for them is just bad hockey management they are a dime a dozen in the league. Morrow would have been great a few years ago before his injuries, but he's a shell of himself especially for his projected cost, if Holland can get a good deal I'd love it, I just don't see Dallas trading their captain for scraps. And Moen is just a older, slower version of Abdelkader.

Well to be fair Datsyuk has quite a few moves that if someone were to translate directly from the rulebook would not be allowed. IE. The Vokoun goal where he pulls the puck backwards into his body because it's not (As it's not in motion towards the goal.) I don't have a problem with Kane's goal, there is a very high chance that he can be poke checked, Backstrom just did not poke check very well there.

Yeah, the rules are vague and not well written, I meant to bold the second part of the spin-o-rama explanation. I think they should add the continuous motion to the main part of the rule.

Copy/Paste of official rules, bolded the important parts I believe. Pretty much as long as the puck is under control of the player he can have the puck stop it's momentum, it's why the spin-o-rama goal and lacrosse style goals are fine. I'm not the biggest fan of shoot outs but I'm fine with the NHL's rules, more room for creativity is good for entertainment purposes.

Great game, 3rd period was terrible and Jimmy kept us in it. Really good overtime to end the game though. Bertuzzi
