    Rosehill vs Lucic

Ok let me try and clear up my opinion. I feel the role of fighting has been drastically diminished since the implementation of the instigator rule. I acknowledge that a fight can effect the momentum and outcome of the game. But feel that the effect would be much less on a team like the Red Wings which are built on a puck possession system. The golden rule of an enforcer is to not fight when your team is ahead, unfortunately the egos of fighters now a days don't let them follow that line of thought. Therefore I feel that the risks would far outweigh the rewards of the Red Wings involving themselves into more fights. Especially if we were to use a roster slot for a player that cannot excel in a defensive/penalty kill role. I feel that fighting is not necessary in today's game and that it's effect on the wings winning games would be negligible and would have little impact on the very goal set forth by every wings team- to win the Stanley Cup. Now I would support a more physical bottom six, and was disappointed with some of the options Holland did not take, but I also understand that Holland puts forth his best effort to build a championship team and feel that our current roster is good enough as is.
  3. Eh, Solid point, guess he'd manage to do well with Kronwall/Lidstrom either way
  4. Watching him play I notice he rarely makes a mistake. A lot of the inconsistency people point to is actually the team in front of him. He has outstanding rebound control, and is fantastic in one on one situations. He shrugs off goals really well, and has a very good attitude for a goalie. The only draw back would be his contract for me, and that wasn't in the criteria so that's my pick. There are good options though, Quick, Bryzgalov, Hiller, Price and Rinne. I'm hesitant on Rinne as I really feel that his system really plays to his style, I'm not sure he would do as well on another team.
  5. Forward : Crosby, this would just lead to the best top 6 in the league and plenty of centers to cover down, allowing Flip to play the 3rd line role. Defenseman: Would be Brent Burns, gives a good physical game with a bomb of a shot, would be a really nice pair with him and Rafalski. Goalie: Fleury, young consistent and the ability to absolutely steal series in the playoffs. Nothing else I'd want in a goalie.

4/3 GDT: Wild 2 at Red Wings 4

Consistency, if you are going to call that you have to call the Lupul goal as well. Then it's free reign to check opposing players into your goalie.

Did that Franzen goal not look in to anyone else?

And I'd take Miller every day. Rosehill can't even play on the PK for Toronto, not to mention Detroit. Couple that with the fact that Miller can play double the time that Rosehill (11 minutes compared to 5 minutes a game) does at the NHL level makes it a nobrainer. If Rosehill can't gain the ice time for a team like Toronto he won't gain the confidence of Babcock playing for the Detroit Red Wings. Rosehill is a fighter, he has no use other wise.

No need for a personal remarks here. I'm a fan of the game just as much as you are. You may be right on Rosehill, but the key there is "for a fighter". I'd rather judge him as a hockey player, because that is the game they are playing. Abdelkader's potential is just much much higher than Rosehills, couple that with the fact that Abdelkader is younger, plays more, produced at the AHL more, and is just generally a better player in every aspect of the game except for fighting proves to me who is a more valuable asset to a team. Also, 29 hits in 24 games does not equal 177 hits in 70 games just FYI Shane O'Brien has improved that's for sure, but his tendency to lose his temper is a huge question mark for me, as it was for the 4 other teams that got rid of him. And that's something that is very hard to change.

You don't have to fight a lot to be a bad hockey player. He even realizes his issue here. S.o.b. has been taking bad penalties since he was born, and he made a bad decision to fight Bertuzzi I don't consider that to be a "solid defenseman". That's why I wouldn't want him on my team, he can't control himself. Rosehill is just a AHL player in my opinion and is only on the Leafs because he can fight. I just think it's silly to have these one dimensional players on the team, when a hit means much more than a fight most of the time.

I thought the Wings came out of the game great for once, they were battling and skating hard. I felt that it was more of a personal battle then it was about the current situation in the game. I'm not going to say it was a major factor in the game, because the Wings took bad penalties and that surely impacted it more, but I felt at that point in the game losing Bertuzzi for 5 minutes was not a good trade off. Now the second fight when we were down was a great time to fight for Bertuzzi, he had nothing to lose.

Rosehill still has what 7 fights in 24 games and 3 points? I'd rather have a player like Prust anyday. Rosehill to me is one of these one dimensional players that services are useless to a skilled team like the Red Wings. And am I eating crow about Bertuzzi fights? umm no just the first one. I did not like the timing of his first fight at all, and it shows on the scoreboard. I was fine with the second fight though, but if you want to ignore the timing of my posts and take them out of context from the GDT, feel free.

Or we can have a player like Bertuzzi that will fight only when it will benefit us. And not have a player like Rosehill or S.o.b. that feel they have to fight every game to prove their worth and risk losing a lead because of that momentum shift. In an ideal world fighting should be used as a way for that player to regulate the game(and in that case would surely like to have a fulltime "enforcer"),but until the instigator rule is taken out I feel the need for a fighter to be non-existent.

Fighting has it's place. But there are too many staged fights and too many one dimensional worthless players. If I'm a Nashville fans I'm pissed that S.o.b. fought Bertuzzi. That's why I don't want a player like that on my team. I think the risk outweighs the reward when it comes to fighting, so I'd rather the team not fight until the instigator rule is taken out.

Why even fight? Now Nashville is going start s*** after the whistle. We need to play hockey, not box. Now we are out of our style ughh.

    Favorite Non-Wing?

Far and away, Sidney Crosby. Other players that I really like are Jamie Benn and Brent Burns.

    Rosehill vs Lucic

And this is why fighting is 100% useless and why I'm glad the Red Wings don't partake in it. Lucic cost his team the game, instead of protecting the lead and playing smart, he chooses to fight a useless 4th liner and put his team at a disadvantage. Just a stupid decision on his part.

    Team Defence

So wait, our defense hasn't just been Jimmy Howard's fault all season? Damn that's never occurred to me via these boards before.

At least we are in the playoffs. This will be good for the wings in the long run.
