2011 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 28th, 3:00 PM ET

Goligoski is pretty good. I think a lot of people a underrating him on this deal. I still think Shero got the better of it, but I don't believe it's as one-sided as everyone says. Neal is young and good, but he was producing with top players(Richards and Ericsson) and on the PP so who knows.

    Bettman threatens Edmonton.

There is plenty to criticize Bettman on. This instance I feel is a major stretch. He's actually trying to help the Oilers, he's saying the same things he's said about the Islanders situation, he's not being any "harder" on Canadian teams, and to think that as a conspiracy is just, I don't know, not right? His job is to represent the owners, so of course he's going to battle for the "poor", if he wasn't good at his job he wouldn't be in his position for almost 20 years.

    Bettman threatens Edmonton.

So Bettman tries to help the franchise in negotiations with the city, and it's a conspiracy of an ultimatum? Bettman hate is alive and well I see. And he's said very similar things about that situation, but you don't have to read them because it wouldn't support your made-up idea of what Bettman wants to accomplish.

    Blues/Avs make big trade

Very interesting trade. I'm guessing this reason had to do with behind-the-scenes conduct with Erik Johnson. The Blues probably felt he was not going to hit his potential with them and decided to move him before his value was hit anymore. They got back a good young power forward in Stewart, which makes their top lines really big. And a really promising point producing defenseman. Both teams wanted to change up their roster, and they certainly did. Won't know the winner of this for a while, too many young guns that have yet to reach their potential.

I think you'll be disappointed. Ken Holland is pretty set on young cheap goalies.

    Stuart eyes Thursday return

Good on Bab's. Salei hasn't been great, but it's going to be interesting to see how much he improves when he doesn't have to play with Kindl. Homer will still get first line time on the PP, and if we need offense, it's just with Datsyuk not being 100% and taking draws we need a little more defensive responsibility up on the first line which Homer cannot provide at this stage of his career at least not the whole game. Congrats for Salei with his third too

#1 - How many Stanley cups do you guys see us winning? 3 #2 - Is Jimmy Howard capable of winning a cup with this team? Yes. #3 - Will Kronwall still be on this roster? No. #4 - Will Chelios be re-signed ? Like somebody said as a coach

    Forsberg Joins Avalanche

He. Never. Retired. Before. Today. He. Never. Quit. What don't you get? He battled injuries, should every player just end their career after battling an injury? Now if he tries a come back next year, you have all the right to start complaining, but to bash him for trying his best to see what he can contribute and if he can hold up one last time is just mind boggling to me. I hope you never have to face a decision in your life to move on when you still feel you can perform. I know it was hard as hell for me to finally just give up my dreams and go to school instead of battling for my chance to get a scholarship playing in the USHL, I couldn't imagine actually having the gifts that Forsberg does and having played at that high of level just to have your career ruined by a foot. It has to be an awful feeling, which was evident in the press conference.

    Forsberg Joins Avalanche

Really weak defense and goaltending. The have decent forward depth, but the defense is just bad at moving the puck, and actually defending.

That looks like a stinger for Bertuzzi, shouldn't be anything too serious.

Yet we're racking up the scoring chances and controlling the play.

    Isles vs Pens

I feel sorry for you. Toughness shouldn't revolve around fighting, or else you would be calling many great players "*******". I'm all for fighting, but the reasons and the way these fights happened I disagree with. I mean Gillies charged Tangradi, delivered a headshot, Tangradi was out, then he starts punching him, then he stays right by the boards and continues chirping at a guy that had a damn concussion for NO reason. That's sickening. I've played in the USHL, I've seen some gong shows first hand, I'd never thought I'd see a play like that in the NHL. The Martin-Talbot thing I can get, it was a borderline hit on Blake and the Islanders wanted Talbot and Talbot should of stood up in the first period and that should be it. But after every whistle taking a swing at the guy? really? Goddard broke a very important rule, and deserves whatever suspension he gets, tough to find video on what exactly Bylsma was doing, but take into account this was the same play that Tangradi was on the ice due to a cheapshot in every sense of the word, so that already puts the balance of players off. Not making excuses, but just something Goddard might have thought was important enough to justify it. The Avs/Wings thing has some parallels, but to me the rivalry was built over a while, not just a week. The battles were faught by the heart and soul of each team, not just AHL callups.

    Isles vs Pens

Yeah, I agree Pens commentators are complete homers. But both teams are completely deserving of the blame, it was quite a pathetic showing for both teams. It was a gong show in every sense of the word. There will be several suspensions for both teams. Really embarrassing for the league imho.

    Isles vs Pens

Did you even watch the game? Hillen, Gilles all just jumped Penguin's players. Both teams were complete embarrassments. That was not a hockey game.

    Isles vs Pens

Fighting is completely useless. The only thing pathetic is players that actually think they help their team when they get an instigator and 5 minutes in the box. I'll take a good hit over a fight any day of the week.

Have you seen the Pens roster? Pascal Dupuis-Jordan Staal-Tyler Kennedy Mike Rupp-Max Talbot-Chris Conner Brett Sterling-Joe Vitale-Eric Tangradi Ryan Craig-Craig Adams-Nick Johnson Brooks Orpik-Kris Letang Paul Martin-Zbynek Michalek Alex Goligoski-Deryk Engellend I'm surprised they have even kept in the playoffs, not to mention be in the top of the division.
