The "I didn't do it before" argument isn't pathetic. When a player like Hossa has 10 years in the league without any supplemental disclipline, it's safe to say he's not a dirty player. Yet, Pronger, Cooke, Ruutu, Laraque etc. all have a history so the benefit of doubt would not apply to them like it does to Hossa in this situation. That said I wouldn't mind a one game suspension, these hits are very dangerous, but this was not a bloodthirsty check from behind therefore I don't see them suspending him. They gave him a 5 minute major in the last couple minutes of a game when his team was down a goal. That's a pretty steep punishment. And the severity of the injury always plays a role in the punishment. If I shoot a man, and he lives my punishment would not be as severe as it would if he died. Or if I steal a pack of gum over a $40000 dollar car, or if I get in a bar fight and the person I fight gets brain damaged instead of a concussion etc... The level of punishment in our society depends on the severity of the outcome, it might not be fair, but that's why you don't break the rules in the first place you might not be lucky.

Is it the same type of hit as Ovechkin's? Yep. Was it with as much force and speed? Nope. That's why I don't think he's getting suspended. Plus he doesn't have a history of borderline hits and it's the playoffs. Although I wouldn't cry if he got suspended, I hate these type of hits.

How did I bait at all? It's not like there are many youtube videos of fans being "unclassy", that was just the first one that came to mind. I didn't say again regarding pens-caps... Nice straw-man argument.

Exactly why this rule isn't enforced too often. But if a team does try to send a message by sending a enforcer at the end of the game this rule is there to enforce.
-
Might want to read and quote the whole rule. How else are you going to write a rule to stop coaches from sending messages towards the end of the game?
-
Such a great shot, to snipe on a goalie like Byrzgalov that close to the net on the back hand is just amazing. Franzen and Datsyuk really started to play better today(well last game too)
-
Well they obviously can't classify "enforcer" in the rule book. But the criteria on past incidents etc. make it pretty easy to see the type of game someone plays. For an example, if Datsyuk decides to stick up for himself at the end of the game would this forum still be asking the league to enforce this? And if you don't like this rule would you like seeing Tootoo or Cooke out at the end of the game taking runs at Lidstrom etc.

Good thing I have the best sense of humor in the world and am inherently more important then everyone else. Otherwise your negative comments to me would ruin my life.

Flippula has been great so far in the playoffs. Hopefully can continue playing up to this level for a long time. Really like him trying to shoot more.

I started watching hockey in 93' when I was 5. I grew up in Detroit always had them first, but Jagr was my favorite player growing up. But sure, just take more shots at me. I love the attention apparently.
-
Wouldn't be so sure, Begin doesn't have much of a past history for "enforcing". But he might be considering he isn't a top player and could be used in a "message sending" role.
-
Glad your the real fan here. Guess me investing thousands of dollars into Red Wing games/jerseys etc. are all wasted because "I'm not a real fan". Grow up.
-
?? Because I posted an example of another team's fan that acted like a jackass? And Penguin's have been my second favorite team since I started watching hockey, only recently has it actually become a dilemma. Don't see how that has to matter in this thread though.

Pretty clear that their intention isn't to stop all fighting, just to stop enforcers from instigating.
-
Every fan base has it's idiots. Move on...

Life's not fair, stop trying to make things perfect.
-
The point in having it is so in this case Boston doesn't send out Scott Thornton to start slashing everyone trying to get the other team to fight to send a message.
-
I've covered this with Malkin. It's not to stop fights that happen out of the spirit of the game. It's to stop sending out enforcers at the end of the game to send messages. Stop crying about the NHL on this issue, they are very clear on it.
-
Yep, because Pittsburgh is the only city in the world to have psychos. And great timing for a Sidney joke.
-
/crosses fingers for no Mike Green. I don't have an issue with either Doughty or Keith, both are great young defensemen. I think Keith had a little better year all around though.
-
The talk is about shipping Langenbrunner out possibly.

A kick is to strike an object with your foot. And he did. Was pretty clear to me. That said I realize the inconsistency with these goals, but from my point of view this is what a kicking motion in hockey is.

Would have to add more, Staal is 5 years younger and 4 inches bigger. They pretty much play the same role on the team though.
-
That's funny because Ovechkin has more kneeing incidents.
-
I'd love Staal on the Wings, I don't know how the Wings could fit him in the line up though, he's going to be making quite a bit, and we have a bunch of centers up the middle. But there is no doubt he is a damn good hockey player.
