    1/1 Winter Classic 2014 GDT: Maple Leafs 3, Red Wings 2 (F/SO)

Are people really bashing Howard? He was Detroit's MVP for sure... made a bunch of good saves and didn't have much of a chance on either goal

    Howard on U.S. Olympic Roster

Miller has been sensational this year, .930 on the worst team in the NHL is nothing to sneeze at

CBC partners with Rogers in landmark NHL rights deal.

This friggin sucks, Sportsnet analysts are awful and the commentators are all raging homers. TSN has some of the best in the industry (McKenzie Dreger Ferraro Cuthbert Miller and more), it's a real shame.

What Does This Team Need More/Most?

I think we need more veteran fourth liners.

****(Stuff) no one says about the Wings

Did they change name plates on jersey?

The arc is a ***** to sew for the equipment managers so they tend to save those for the roster players, nameplates are easy so they use those in the pre-season
  14. Guys read this article, scroll to the bottom at the poll, and vote "Cleary got robbed" cuz lol http://www.torontosun.com/2013/09/10/ufa-dan-clearly-signs-3-year-deal-with-philadelphia-flyers

New enemies, whom do you fear the most?

I don't get why some of you are writing off the Leafs, I think out of all the teams in the division I fear them the most. They're gonna play with some fire because of last year's outcome. They have a very deep team with good players for all scenarios. Kessel, Kadri, JVR, and Lupul provide good scoring, Bolland and McClement are solid PK centres. They've got grit with McLaren and Orr who won't play a lot but will play if needed. Their defence has a lot of depth, and they *should* have a very good tandem in goal this year. Bolland and Clarkson were good additions and should fit in well with Carlyle's system. They bring grit but that's not all they bring contrary to what people think. The only weaknesses I see in their team are the top 2 pairing in D (much like us) and their 1C and 2C who aren't elite yet (Kadri is small and is not a good enough 2 way player and Bozak is not an elite centre either) "Look at where their toughness brought them"?? Don't forget this is a team that, like us, took a cup finalist to 7 games and looked like they had the series wrapped up. Boston is always a force in the playoffs so that isn't exactly something to sneeze at...

    Fox Sports 1 Debuts today

That's Canadian blasphemy. Jay and Dan are Canadian legends.
  17. Wow an absolute beauty of a cap hit!
  18. Swap East for West and you have the 2012-2013 season prediction... We're a lot better this year

Canadian Dollar / Salary Cap foreshadowing

It only applies to small market Canadian teams, which sucks because they (i.e. Winnipeg Calgary Ottawa Edmonton) have passionate fans that fill arenas and those teams are the life of the city. The problem is that they don't generate enough revenue from sources outside the city (you won't find European Oilers fans). It would be a shame for any of these teams to fold because it would not go un-noticed unlike an area like Atlanta or Phoenix where nobody would even notice and the city loses money every year just to keep the team there.

    Fits for our extra forwards

Compliance buyouts are now done so where do these extra expendable forwards go? (especially since we're interested in Morrow now apparently??) Assuming the lines look like this: Z-D-Abdelkader/Brunner Franzen-Weiss-Alfie Nyquist-Andersson-Tatar Miller-Helm/Emmerton-Eaves/Tootoo/Bert/Sammy/... Since we didn't buyout Bert I assume he stays on the team, which leaves Eaves, Tootoo, Sammy, and Emdog. We sign Brunner (which I really hope we do) and that's another forward. Where could these players potentially end up? Tootoo- Montreal, Phoenix, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Dallas Eaves- Winnipeg, Florida, Tampa, Carolina Sammy- Anywhere that will take him for the love of God... Calgary? Maybe NJ or Colorado? Emdog- I actually really hope we keep him because he's so cheap and Helm will not be healthy all season, I can almost guarantee. Maybe Tampa/Dallas because of the Red Wings connection.

    Flyers to buyout Briere

If he can be had for cheap then why wouldn't we make a push for him? Super classy invidivual, a great leader, and has good hands. The guy served as a mentor to this guy named Giroux and Couturier who was very good his rookie year. We have so many young players and it would be great to have someone like that in the locker room. Looking at it in the long run, Briere could help develop Tatar and Gus and then retire by the time these two reach their full NHL potential (vs signing a 28-30 year old on a longer term which they'll probably look for). Who cares if he's bad defensively, playing with Pav and Z will help cover that up. As for injury history he's played close to full seasons the past few seasons. I don't like this whole "we're getting younger not older" thing either. Our entire blue line is pretty young, while our forwards have a nice blend of veterans (Pav Z etc.) and young players (emdog andersson nyquist brunner etc.).

Grand Rapids Griffins Win Calder Cup! 5-2 win in game 6

So unselfish, great character showing for our future
  23. DANIEL CLEARY, RIVERHEAD CARBONEAR, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR And to think someone commented that they sided with Chicago, the last 5 minutes were nothing but praise for Detroit from the CBC crew
  24. Growing up near Toronto I've watched HNIC almost my entire life and grew up listening to Bob Cole. Although he gets names wrong his calls right now are giving me the chills, great stuff on CBC.

    Trade Smith ASAP!

Kindl really sucked and was unimpressive until this season when he really picked it up (he does make mistakes but is still developing). Just shows that patience pays off.
