    Official NHL Trade Deadline thread

For every one saying Holland lacked the "balls" to do anything, I've already posted this but: “We offered some of (prospects). At the end of the day someone didn’t like them as much as we do or they liked someone else’s players better.” He made an effort to acquire someone. Other teams outbid him. Maybe it's not a matter of him not making an effort, but a matter of our prospects not being viewed as highly as someone else's? If Holland moved Nyquist, Mrazek and a 1st and 2nd to get Pominville, would you be happy? I'd be pissed off.

Aside from Gaborik, those were severe overpayments. I'm ecstatic that Kenny isn't willing to pay what those guys are. In 3-4 years we'll have some solid, young talent on cheap contracts in the line-up. I can't wait. Edit: Just saw this in an article. “We offered some of (prospects). At the end of the day someone didn’t like them as much as we do or they liked someone else’s players better.”

So it's Ken's fault that Suter CHOSE Minnesota? It's his fault that teams like Minny, Columbus and Washington are willing to overpay? Guys like Tatar and Nyquist HAVE played because of injuries to the guys you mentioned. They'll have full-time gigs when those guys leave. Three of those guys were top 5 picks (two were 1st overall). Detroit doesn't pick in the top five, thus, their prospects aren't handled like top five picks.

    Nyquist, Tatar, dekeyser

You have to remember that with these guys, they're being shuffled around so much that they can't really get any familiarity with the team. Before we write Gus or Tatar off, let's wait and see what they do with some sustained time on a line. Tatar showed he could be effective on a line with Andersson and Eaves. One of these guys (most likely) will be taking Cleary's spot next season.

Could Kenny be working on something HUGE?

Just his biceps. He had to sculpt his guns at the office.

I agree that it's a bit of an overpayment, but a Parise-Koivu-Pominville line is going to be lethal. I think the Wild may end up using an amnesty buyouy on Heatley during the summer now, for sure.

I see where you're coming from, but I think Holland has been of the mentality that those vets were kind of "buffers" for the transition of the kids. People can make an argument that Holland undervalued the impact that guys like Tatar, Nyquist and Andersson could make this season, but I don't think that has as much to do with getting guys at this particular deadline. The 2014-15 season is the one where I think we'll see the big turnover. Cleary and Miller are gone next year, with Nyquist/Tatar and Andersson taking their spots. The year after Bert, Sammy and Eaves are gone. Defensively, like them or not, I think guys like Quincey, Cola, etc. are serving a purpose. Who knows when Ouellet, Sproul, Backman or Almqvist will be ready. Who saw Kindl playing the way he has? I certainly didn't. I wasn't sure we'd get Dekeyer, either. Again, maybe Holland can be faulted here for not anticipating guys like Kindl and Lashoff being able to play, but he's also making sure he doesn't rush the younger guys. I think it's more defensible here than at the forward position. Prior to the year starting, I saw an ugly two year window, and I think that still exists.

for the secrecy, the only thing I could imagine it being is Ribeiro. Anything more seems out of the realm of possibility. McKenzie cited Chimera and Schultz on the move earlier, but who knows.

I hope some of you read this in a few days and see how ridiculous you sound. Outside of trying to move White and maybe Filppula (because of the rumored salary demands), not much else makes sense. We're a middle of the pack team on the rebuild. You don't sacrifice prospect depth in this league, anymore. Not to be knocked out in the first or second round. I'm totally fine with this team standing pat this year, because I'm come to the terms that the Red Wings will most likely not win the Cup this season. It is what it is.

Ryan Sproul to play with the Griffins for the rest of the year

Full attention on the upcoming Griffins games now.

Holland: "We don't need depth...Need a top guy"

April Fools'? I'm surprised Holland is actually admitting we need top six talent. I'd be pleasantly surprised if he can add something for the right price.

    Defesemen..

I'm all for moving Cleary, but I don't really want Ebola popcorn. As far as White/Cola/etc are concerned, I'd like them to move White for a pick, waive Huskins, and let whoever out of Lashoff and DeKeyser stick with the big club. Whoever out of the two does can rotate in and out of the line-up with Cola. Kronwall-Ericsson Smith-Quincey Kindl-Cola/DeKeyser Edit: Just to add to this, just read this on Twitter: "According to Mike Babcock, via @HeleneStJames's piece, Dan DeKeyser will be with the team for the rest of the season, and not sent down." So something's got to give.

Wings Make Offer to Danny D!

Have we started tracking flights yet?

Wings Make Offer to Danny D!

Lot of sources connected to WMU saying that it's going to happen, but much like the other "realists", I'll just wait and see until it's official.

Wings Make Offer to Danny D!

While I agree that the guy is being severely overrated, I wouldn't rule out Holland and co. promising him a spot in the line-up. They may be a little desperate after failing to land a big name FA, and I could see him being slotted in the line-up over guys like White and Colaiacovo. I think, at the very least, they'll offer him a spot and tell him it's his to lose. If he fails to impress, they send him to GR for the remainder of the season. I guess that could be the difference between signing here and somewhere like Edmonton (where he could very well jump into the top 4 without question).

    Brenden Morrow Traded to Penguins

I think that Dallas wins this one, even as soon as the next 2-3 years. Unless Brendan can help them grab a cup (take on a Guerin role), then I'm not sure it's worth it. Guess you have to get to give, though. I see Boston pushing hard after Clowe next, since they didn't land Morrow.

Wings Make Offer to Danny D!

The vibe I'm getting is that he'll definitely sign with the Red Wings in the next few days. Also, I know a lot of people are pretty excited about the kid here, but I hope no one expects him to put up a ton of points, or be super flashy off the bat. Maybe eventually he develops into that role, but from what I've seen (and heard second hand) he's a really quiet type of player who does all the little things right. He's been touted as a Brad Stuart type of player, and that's what the Red Wings really need, imo. I'm pretty pumped to get him myself, but I feel like I know what to expect out of him (all around solid play).

    Perron's ridiculous dive.

Works in theory, but if there's a legitimate hook/trip and an embellishment on top of it, I can see why both should be called. In cases like this, though, I feel it's clearly on Perron. When it's this blatant, I think only one should be called. It's embarrassing.

Andrej Sustr signs with Tampa Bay

As per McKenzie's Twitter... hopefully we're still in on DeKeyser. https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/status/314859801278550019

Top 10 NCAA Free Agents Headed to NHL

Didn't notice this topic. Mods can delete my post if necessary. As I mentioned there, I really hope they can scoop up DeKeyser now.
  21. Ok, I didn't think we would have to resort to this, but I think it's time to get Helm the same surgery that Wolverine got to fuse adamantium to his bones. Let's all pool our money together and make it happen.

    Ladislav Smid

While I think him actually being moved to Detroit is unlikely, I feel like a Kindl-Smid pairing would compliment each other very nicely. Not just because they're both Czech players, but because of their styles.

    Damien Brunner

I have to say, I've noticed lately, other teams are starting to figure him out. I wish he'd stop coming in on his off wing and trying that stupid toe drag move that's only worked once. If he doesn't change things up, he's going to develop Ovie syndrome. With all that in mind, I'm actually pretty thrilled that they have a shoot first player on the team. I just don't want him to get locked up if he's going to get stale/repetitive with his moves.

    Quincey out tonight vs. Nucks

It's easy to rip on the guy for his lack of offensive production, but he's actually been pretty good defensively. Obvs not worth the contract, but you can't argue with the way he places himself in front of the puck (clearly). Hoping he recovers swiftly.

    If Hossa is bought out

Have to agree with this. I really feel like he'll go wherever the best chance of winning is, in the unlikely event that he's bought out.
