Not sure how reliable the guy is, since he's a Pens beat writer, but he tweeted: "Alex Semin's agent, Mark Gandler: "No question, playing in Pittsburgh would be great. Alex would love to play with either Malkin or Crosby.""
-
It may, but it may not... he's had his fair share of wrist issues in the past couple seasons. If he's set on playing back there, he might call it early to make sure he can.
-
In his defense, Datsyuk's said in an interview or two (from maybe 3-4 years ago) that he'd like to finish his career in Russia.
-
Not to be a jerk, but Andersson's already played an NHL game. Five of 'em this past season, in fact. And as I mentioned on the BC, Jarnkrok, Ouellet and Sproul aren't 50/50 players, in my mind. Jarnkrok's excelled every where, and kept getting better. Ouellet and Sproul stood out on teams that were supposed to struggle or did struggle mightily. I'm interested to see what Jurco does in an AHL capacity, as he's been on an offensive juggernaut with the SeaDogs the past few seasons. Guys like Tvrdon and Pulu are 50/50 guys... but those four, I don't think so much.
-
This. We could have a rough go of things for the next 2-3 years or so, but in that time a lot of these kids will grow into their roles. You'll see guys like Nyquist and Smith playing bigger roles, and we'll have a much better idea of where Tatar, Jurco and Jarnkrok will be in terms of their roles. Guys like Sheahan, Andersson and Callahan may develop into solid bottom 6 guys. Not to mention with a thin blueline, Ouellet and Sproul could see NHL time in a few seasons, instead of waiting in the AHL for 4 seasons. I don't think we need a rebuild. I think the team could use a few veteran stop gaps right now, while our prospects come into their own and we get to see what kind of players they turn into. I've always heard, "The Red Wings don't rebuild, they reload"... well this may just be a longer reload than us fans are used to. We may have to be patient for the first time in years

signed Wings hire Tom Renney as Assistant Coach (3-year contract)
Jesusberg posted a topic in General
"The Red Wings have hired former EDM/NYR/VAN bench boss Tom Renney as an associate coach. Renney, 57, has signed a 3-year deal with the club." Per Detroit Red Wings Twitter account. -
Didn't know where to put this... didn't think a new thread was necessary. From Helene St. James: #RedWings defenseman Kyle Quincey files for salary arbitration.
-
Also from Chesnokov: "Gandler, Semin's agent, gives no hints whatsoever. The best I could get out of him was "Semin's priority is to sign with an NHL team."" Kind of seems to me like he's looking for the best possible offer an NHL team will make.
-
Not that it adds any real information, but Dmitry Chesnokov (writes for Puck Daddy, contributes a few other places) tweeted: "I asked Semin if he was going to play in Detroit - one of the clubs reportedly interested. His reply: "I don't know." Evaluating his options." Not sure it really means much, but at least it's been asked of him? I guess... I know, I'm reaching here, lol.

I want a scoring punch just as much as the next person, but I would be leery to offer him anything over 3 years. Pav has 2 years left on his deal, and I'm curious about what he's going to do... he's mentioned wanting to go finish his career in Russia in a few interviews, so I wonder if 35 is the age he goes back home. If we have Semin for an extra 2-3 years past that, I think he reverts back to an unmotivated player. I think Pavel is the key in getting the most out of Semin, should he come to Detroit.
-
Think it's worth mentioning that "Hockeyy Insiderr" dropped the ball in a big way. He's even getting pissy and threatening to block people on Twitter, and going so far as to speculate that Shero is "VERY mad"... which Dreger responded to and immediately denied (after speaking with Shero himself).

Ryan Suter agrees to 13-year, $98-mil deal with Wild
Jesusberg replied to Ozzie30's topic in General
I wanted Suter just as much as every one else here, but 13 years at 7.5 per is a serious overpayment. Short terms this stings a lot, but long term this could be a really good thing for the Red Wings. Next year is likely going to be rough, but who knows what the future holds.- 252 replies

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild

Looking more and more like these guys were waiting for July 4th to announce they'll be playing with each other for Minnesota, lol.- 487 replies

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild
Jesusberg replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
At this point, I'm totally fine with getting Suter and not Parise. Sure, I'd like both guys... but we're really hurting on the back end. I think we could land Semin or Doan and still be pretty solid up front. If we don't land Suter, Carle seems to be the next best option, which scares me with the current group of defenders.- 487 replies

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild
Jesusberg replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I just get the vibe that they want to play hockey with each other... maybe it's just the pessimist in me That "Hockeyy Insiderr" source was cited in the "do not trust" thread or whatever... I really want to believe that Suter has agreed to come here, but I feel like I'm being tricked, lol. If the account gets this one right (since I think he got Jagr and another one or two) I'd definitely see it as a viable account.- 487 replies

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild
Jesusberg replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Josh Rimer of NHL Home Ice did an interview with Parise. A quote from it was, "We've talked. Ryan and I are friends. We've definitely talked throughout this thing." Honestly, gut feeling kind of says he's leaning toward Minnesota with Suter. I really hope not.- 487 replies

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild
Jesusberg replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
We're getting a little arrogant here, in my opinion. The guy's making a huge decision and taking a few days to do it. A lot of the fans here are coming off like spoiled brats. "The how dare he take some time to decide, we're the Red Wings" attitude is unbecoming.- 487 replies

Suter Watch: Decision today, down to Wings/Wild
Jesusberg replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Considering the initial offer was for 6.1ish, no wonder he didn't sign here right off the bat. At 6.9 per, at least you can say the Red Wings are trying to compete with the other teams.- 487 replies

Still no decision from Suter. Speculation abounds.

signed Red Wings Sign Mikael Samuelsson to 2-yr, $6m deal (w/full NTC)
Jesusberg replied to Matt's topic in General
I don't understand this at all. -
Honestly, of all the other teams who were in the mix for him, I'm cool with him signing in Edmonton. It might be too much for me to hear the Toronto or Vancouver fans brag about getting Schultz. Lots of guys have snubbed the Oilers over the years because of the weather/management/etc...
-
Pssh, yeah... what a total loser. He doesn't want to be a Red Wing... well he sucks now. Seriously though, not everyone is going to drink the red kool-aid. It kind of sucks that he passed on Detroit, but we'll find talent elsewhere. No biggie.
-
Agreed, and I also think GR needs a change of scenery. Could just be me, but I felt like Fraser gave too much time to the AHL vets on the team, and didn't focus enough on the progression of the young guys. I'm just speculating, but with Blashill taking over (proven to be good with young players) I feel like it's a step toward better player development. It seemed to me like this was an issue all year. Teams appear to be wise to Detroit's system, and the Wings seem to constantly go back to the point/try to screen the goalie. It's frustrating at times, because it feels like there's a lack of solid puck movement cross-crease. I hope they try some new things on the PP next season.
-
In my eyes, this is a lateral move for him, but I wonder how Blashill sees it. Would have liked to see Gerard Gallant here, but the Canadiens snatched him up recently.
