Osgood has said on several occasions that he has no hard feelings about sitting on the bench. Don't read to much into the situation. Furthermore, Babcock has stated that Ozzie is the reason Jimmy has been playing so well. Ozzie is constantly coaching and supporting Howard during practice. I think Ozzie needs some ice time, and Howard needs a break BUT NOT because Howard has been playing poorly. In fact I do not think Howard has been playing poorly, on the contrary, I think Howard has been playing fantastic. The reason the Wings have been losing games (and tonight was an excellent example of this) is because once they get a lead they sit on their heels the rest of the game. The defense needs to keep the puck out of the zone, and the offense needs to play a more defensive game especially when the team is ahead. I know that sounds weird because the Wings haven't had high scoring games, but when I say they need to play more "Defensively" I do not mean to infer that they have been playing offensively. In fact, the problem is the offense just seems to give up in a way, they don't set up scoring plays carefully and they don't play defensively when they're ahead.

This has been happening all season. Apparently there is a new set of "Well, but I intended to" rules that not only overturn rulings, but are more credible than videos and the rest of the rule book. Well, but I intended to blow the whistle (most widely used). Well, but I intended to make the save (popular by McFluery). Well, but I intended to make a clean hit (popular by Pronger). Well, but I intended to beat the Red Wings (popular by...the NHL) Enough of the bulls***. Get some new refs in the NHL and put Bettman's personal minions on the streets. At my house we've kinda made a joke of the whole thing at this point. Whenever something happens in a game we follow it up with but he intended to... My brother once said it during a crappy call at an NFL game, but we ensured him that that rule is only in the NHL

So my friend and I have had this on going argument about who is a better defenseman: Kronwall or Ericsson. What do you, the LGW community think? Kronwall: Personally I think kronwall is better. Defensively he is a powerful heavy hitter who plays a more aggressive/offensive defense, which really shows during special teams (PP and PK). He's consistent on both ends of the ice, taking shots and getting off passes quickly. My friend thinks he's a hot-head who's "always out of his zone and tries to hit too much" and is not consistent. He sacrifices his position to make the highlight reel. Also, his shots are not as precise as Ericsson's. Ericsson: My friend thinks Ericsson has better stick handling, passing, and is "smarter" (doesn't get out of position to hit, but can hit hard). I think he's on his ass half the time and doesn't do as good of a job as Kronwall when picking up on the other team. Also, Ericsson is often too conservative in his playing style. Not that conservative play is bad, but he needs to capitalize on more plays. Stats: (Stats are really difficult to go by b/c ericsson is younger and also played less games as a rookie, so I'm posting the broad +/- numbers, which are a broader judgement of skill) Kronwall has never had a +/- below zero (first 2 years: +5 and +11, with a career high of +25) . Ericsson has never had a positive +/- (first 2 years: -1, -3 and currently has a -7)

Ericsson definitely has the strength to be. He is one of the biggest wings on the ice and just needs to exploit that advantage better.

That's what I've been saying. Although I can see the arguement that Ericsson will or can be great in the future, Kronwall is better. My friend believes, with evidence, that Kronwall is a poor defender. This is why I've posted this topic. It's kinda interesting how most people take my side on this forum. I actually wanted, in a kinda backwards way, more arguements that Kronwall is a bad player.

Well maybe "hate" is too strong of a word, sorry You're right. Huh. i know they initially dismissed him to be out indefinitely, but yah, he'll be back in a about 2 weeks according to the most recent report.

Quite frankly I've never liked Ericsson that much. Yah every once in a while he has a key play like the save the other night, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Half the time he's on the ice he's on his ass or acting like Lebda. I'm really surprised that so many people are so sympathetic. Don't get me wrong, I know that every stick matter with all these injuries, but I'ld like to see some players like Kindle and Janik come up and prove themselves. Even Babs keeps saying (and I know he's just trying to be optimistic, but...) when one guy falls, another guy gets a chance to show everyone what they have to offer. Look at the situation this way, this is really flexing the Wings chart depth and Babs's ability to coach. Oh, and I'm hearing more "indefinitely" reports than "few weeks" reports.

When I first saw this thread I was like "nah, that's just how Dats looks", but after replaying the finals intro vid ( ) I realized just how much he really has changed emotionally this year. I know the whole team is upset from these losses, espcially Dats, but I think the key difference between the way they played last year and the way they are playing now is that most of them seem to be out there trying win but without the drive they once had. By "drive" I mean that they are playing like they have nothing to lose and nothing to gain. They score a goal "yeah!" but not "YAAAH!1!!11!". The wings seem to be playing like stanley cup defenders; the way I expected them to play during the regular season last year. They should be playing like blood thirsty animals seeking revenge on the people who struck them down last year (Crosbitch and Malkin) and who are trying to keep them them down (Bettman). But they're not...which is concerning. However! The year is still young. Just wait until January everyone
