Chris Conner had a very solid training camp and he is very similair to Miller with a bit more sandpaper. I like Emmertons game and I really really like giving the young guys who have dedicated 4 years to GR a chance to make the big club... or at least have a shot. All i am saying is that Bruno is the guy to beat out of that spot, and Mursak would have taken the last spot. If Emmerton makes this team, its because Mursak unfortunately broke his ankle.....not because he truly earned it. Mursak dedicated 4 years in GRap because the first couple years he was garbage, then he flipped the switch and we just didn't have anywhere to put him last year. Emmerton dedicated 4 years in GRap because he isn't as good as anyone on the roster and isn't showing much of any potential. If we are talking about guys who "dedicated" time in GRap, we never should have let Tardiff go or other fringe players. So basically we are saying the same thing about Emmerton and Mursak...Except you liked Tardiff and well, I never saw his having NHL potential.

Yeah, Red has Hudler on it so of course they will crush the white team

Brunnstrom is a lock now...and he should be. He has been very solid! I think they will take a long look at Conner as well. Had a great TC and has been a nice addition! I for one was someone who thought fabian could make this team and wanted him to do well- not at Mursak's expense but now he has the chance. I like it alot!!

I was very impressed with him at training camp! I agree...he is going to be a special player!

Dimaline et all! I also had an awesome training camp. We were in Traverse City from late Saturday night until Thursday (stayed an extra 2 days to see the sights, do the dunes ect)I did not meet up with anyone from LGW- I thought I saw a few of you but I wasn't certain. I was hoping to meet up with people from the board but perhaps we can organize something for next year! I completely agree with Smith, Jurco and Ferraro...each impressed me, as well as Brunnstrom and Nyquist. I felt that unfortunately, Emmerton did not have a strong camp and I don't think he will be around this year. The cuts will be hard because a lot of guys played very well and will have to go back to GR or go elsewhere. I also had a chance to run into a "slew" of the guys out and about which was a very cool experience. On Monday night, my friend and I went shopping and went for a late dinner downtown. We thought about maybe having a beer so we walked down Front street about 9:15 and passed the restaurant "Red Ginger". I happened to look up and I saw Franzen's big red melon. I passed the window and told my friend that I saw Franzen and Clearly sitting in the window front so we decided to have a beer and went in. I tried not to stare when we passed the bar and noted that not only were Franzen and Clears there, but Zetty, Ian White, Pavs, Flip, Homer, Bert, Jimmy, Lids and Stuart. WOW!!! Everyone has a different viewpoint on this, but I believe that even famous people get to have dinner and not be bothered (even though they choose to sit in the bar to watch the Giants game!) I didnt go up or ask them to autograph anything. We stayed for 1 beer and 2 different guys came up to get autographs but we sat about 8 feet away from them and just let them hang out. It was cool to just watch them be "normal guys"- Zetterberg would not get off his phone, Bert looked bored to tears, Ian White was chatting away to Pavel and pretty deep into the red wine. Mule and Flip left first, right after the food came (and I overheard someone say enjoy dinner so maybe Flip and Mule dont like Sushi??) Anyway, it was a very unique experience and when we were leaving, Lids nodded and smiled at us. Supercool!!! Anyway, I am hoping that others will share their stories of the camp, the guys and Traverse City! Cheers Jen

Only thing wrong with it is that it doesnt pay the bills!!! This sucks- F#ck Amway!

You never truly know someone...only what they allow you to know, and Belak was one of those guys. Its very tragic..... he was such an animated, funny and likable guy...I feel sick that this has happened. What a terrible summer for the guys who play the best sport in the world. I hope that these incidence will allow players to get the help they need and get rid of the stigma of depression or other illnesses. Rest in Peace Wade. You will be missed

All great advice Kira! We met in 2008 I think...I'll see you again this year although I am not there until Sunday this year! You do see the guys around town quite a bit! We ran into Z, Franzen, Kronwall, Ozzie and Sammy at the Turtle Creek Casino a few years back playing blackjack. As long as you are polite and dont harass them, everyone is very nice. I would never ask any of them away from the arena for an auto...thats just not cool but Kira is right, at the arena, they respond better if you say thank you and are nice. I have had lots of good fortune by just asking how their summer was, how their knee (ankle, wrist) is doing ect. That makes 3 of us looking for Bert to sign some stuff see you all there! I cant wait

I don't think you can compare Drake to Nolan at all.......and why would we give a senior Citizen like Nolan a spot on our third line...who would he replace? Abby? Helm? Makes perfect sense to me. Brunnstrom hasnt been given a real shot since his 1st year with Dallas- the Leafs farm team cant even be considered as real hockey! Give the young buck a chance!
-
I may be in the minority but I think Brunnstrom has a decent shot at making the team. They obviously see something in him and/or perhaps question Cory's jump to the NHL. If he is conditioned and motivated...I think he can steal a spot from Emmerton- Time will tell! It will be cool to watch him at Training Camp and see what he has.
-
Please tell me that is a joke...Brunnstrom has a future. Nolan has a future nursing home picked out.

Absolutely! most of the guys are very good at signing things. Some guys will take a few minutes in the AM before their day starts and sign a couple of things before there are 500 people outside. They arrive at different times and with different people because the games start at different times. Mostly the guys arrive at the arena, skate, workout, play, go back on the bikes ( you can see them go in and out of the gym) and then leave for the day. 3-4 guys will come out at the same time and sign and then you wait until the next bunch are ready. Prospects and newbies ALWAYS come out and sign and will do the entire crowd. The big guys ( Lids, Z, Pavs) may sign Saturday and not Sunday or visa versa, but almost never more than 1 time a day and almost never both days but they divide "the big boys up, so Lids, Z and Jimmy may sign the saturday and then Mule, Pasha and Krons will sign the Sunday. In my experience, Flip, Hudler and Kronwall are great signers....they will generally do the entire group and will personalize stuff. Other guys...it depends on the day. The 1st year I went, Z signed 3 things for me...the next year, he signed one and only one. Most will let you take pics with them. also, make sure you have your sharpie ready and that your jersey (or whatever) is undersomething solid and ready for an auto because if you arent ready, they may keep walking! Some with make conversation with you and others just sign and keep walking. When Downey was with the team, he was awesome- telling stories and was very funny. Other guys clearly dont want to be there!! Anyway, hope that helps! Enjoy camp- its a lot of fun

Welcome to the boards Bramsy! Wait until photoshop wars...that will get you inner RW fan going!

I think Konnan meant in general......with the aging veteran comment. You need not pick the one dude that does not apply. Also, perhaps it is just me but if you listen to interviews from Kenny and other Red Wings management, I think Hudler leaving was a decision made by Huds AND by the organization. The Wings desperately needed capspace and were trying to squeeze Franzen and Hossa into the roster. They allowed him to go to the KHL to try and sign Hossa, allow Hudler to get more icetime and hone his skills without losing him to an NHL team with bigger pockets. They cant state this as fact but his presense on the team speaks volumes about what really went down. The Wings, moreso than any other organization rely on classy, honest, decent people in the lockerroom...they expect the kind of class that management shows to them. If Hudler treated the organization like that, I dont think he would be back..and God knows Babs would have blasted the guy. Nobody talks about the possibility of this happening because everyone hates the guy but just some food for thought.. As for Weber...he will be fine on the blueline if Suter leaves. Larry murphy was a HOF D-man and from the looks of theings, that appreared not to hurt Nicklas Lidstrom!

I was actually quite impressed about how articulate and honest he was. His perspective is unique

I actually can't believe we have gotten this far into a thread about the playoffs with someone not mentioning officiating. The officials completely call the playoffs with different glasses...sometimes to the point that it seems like its a different game. In the later rounds, Highsticking, slashing, boarding, roughing goes without a whistle about 90 percent of the time. If a smaller, puck possession team is successful in the regular season, they have to play a different game to win in the playoffs which obviously plays into the opponents hand...especially if the team they are playing is a big physical team. Game 7- Boston and TB...and not a single pentalty called?? Bulls***! BTW, who does that favor?? The physical and strong ORIGINAL SIX team Boston who goes on to win the game and series. Vancouver, a team I think is quite akin to the Wings on paper is literally hammmered off the puck, many times with force by a much bigger team and all that boarding, slashing and highsticking goes uncalled....it really does give Boston the advantage. I dont think they necessarily give teams more calls or less calls but I do know they call less stuff that if clearly a penalty. This does not favor the Wings in any way- it favors the sharks. SJ can seriously try to hurt the Wings and all of that crap isnt called. All the boarding and headhunting forces detroit to play a different game and allows SJ to be as "bullying" as they want to be. When detroit won the cup in 08, who did we play? Other puck possession teams including Pittsburg. Don't get me wrong, I think physical hockey but its not the same hockey as the regular season because its called to favor bigger, stronger and faster teams. It affects the outcome...bigtime.
-
I actually don't mind it- I think its a decent logo but in all honesty, it could look brilliant or terrible on a uniform. I want to see it on a jersey with all the patchwork before I decide. At first glance, i think it looks ok. Its certianly 100 percent better than the thrashers scary psycho bird they had!
-
I hate the sharks....HATE them! Just thinking about game 7 makes me mad. We were so close and fought so hard......ergggghhhhhhh. I wanted so badly to kick their smug asses! Sorry for the rant folks!

I voted Hudler for most of the reasons people have mentioned BUT I would also like to mention that although Huds had a VERY disappointing season last year, it was a transition year for the guy. The KHL and the NHL are very different leagues and it is impossible to compare them. The year before he left for Russia the guy was the most productive member of the team (having the most points with icetime given) He has been able to elevate his game with 57 points in 2009. I think if Huds can get into shape and develop some chemistry, 57 points is not unattainable again for him
